Good morning everyone.

Jane, good idea on the font, I can see it so much better.

Well everyone, this weekend was tough for me for some reason. I stayed within my points, but ended up eating some processed junk and am feeling it this morning. My carbs were over 150, I had lots of added salt, and showed a gain.(I had to check, cause my fingers were swollen this am. It was an ill thought out menu for me, can't let that happen again.

I sure like this group, seems helpful and it's fun to have so much in common.

New Creation, I can't tell diet soda from regular any more if it is ice-cold, so I have to see the can or container to be sure. I can if it is room temp or warm, easily. I don't drink much soda. I do, however, drink crystal lite peach iced tea or regular iced tea with lemon and artificial sweetener when I want a treat, yum.

Gwen, those recipes look terrific.

Joyful, I feel blessed as well. Nice group of gals here.

Michou, taking care of our bodies resonates with me too. I have ignored mine for some time-- a common problem of caretakers, I hear. I am learning to take time for me without feeling guilty about it. A work in progress, still.

Jane 01-31-2011 12:23 PM

ANewCreation - any chance you would want to be called by a name? If not, I understand. Veggie quiches sounds so good. Is the recipe on the SBD website here? Neal's niece used to scrape the topping off of pizza and eat that, leaving the crust. I'm not so sure I could do that, and would probably chomp right into the crust, haha. Actually, I have planned ahead for pizza, and it sure is good when I get it.

I'm preparing for snow here, too, and brought a lot of firewood up to the house in case of power failure, we can still stay warm.

Later....

Jane 01-31-2011 12:28 PM

Bunti - you were posting same time as me. I hope your water weight gain gets flushed out fast. Are you drinking lots of water? I like this group, too, partly because it is small enough to comment to everyone that posts. Are you still a caregiver? You may have already talked about that, and I spaced it. :dizzy:

maryea 01-31-2011 03:37 PM

I notice I do better when I have my food planned before hand. I have been having trouble getting myself to do that since we've been traveling..I am back to recording everything I eat. Do good some days, some days not so good.

ANewCreation 01-31-2011 05:49 PM

Bunti, thanks for the idea on getting iced tea. I don't drink a lot of soda myself but I really needed a pick me up that day and diet coke is good for picking me up. But, I think I'll get iced tea on the rare occasions I go through a drive thru for a drink. There will be no confusion if I do that ;)

Jane, are you trying to tell me you're tired of typing out ANewCreation? LOL :D
I also go by Lou, so feel free to address me by my shorter nickname. As a matter of fact, I'll try to remember to sign off that way. The veggie quiche is in the SB diet book I just bought at Wal-Mart. If you can't find it online somewhere let me know and I'll post the recipe. It worked out very well subbing some of the spinach with the leftover crabmeat. :carrot:

joyful retiree-thanks for your encouragement. I've been working all morning on prepping some foods for the week. I know I won't always be on top of it but it sure makes a big difference when I am ;)

maryea--Planning is very difficult when you travel, but writing everything down is a good way to compensate. I hope you're having a good week while you travel.

The snow is starting to fall and the temp is dropping tomorrow we're supposed to be below zero--brrrr!

Stay warm and God bless you all!
Lou

Hi all,

Lou - one of my sisters is Mary Lou, and I call her Lou, so I'm partial to that name. And yes, Lou sure is easier to type, haha. I think I can get the recipe from the SBD site here. If not, I'll let you know.

Mary - good to see you here! Speaking of names, see above, about my sister's name. Also, my mom and my older daughter both are Marys. Planning ahead makes a world of difference to me, too. A lot of people use FitDay to get the whole nutritional picture, but I just use a 3-ring binder and school paper, lol. Not as thorough, but it works for me.

I got the firewood hauled to the porch. Brrrr! The wind was brutal. Also got 2 of the 4 sides of Holden's comforter sewed before my eyes got tired.

As I mentioned, tomorrow begins the big spring cleaning project. Any of you who want to show up and help, just holler, haha. I've got lots of buckets and cleaning rags.

Chat with you next month!
;)

Good Morning to All,

Jane & Lou - This is so funny. My sister's name was Emma Lou & I often called her Lou or Lulu. So, I too am partial to that name.

Bunti - Sorry to hear you had a tough weekend, but it sounds like you are back on track now. It happens to us all. I try to limit processed foods most of the time, but, like Jane, I don't want to give up my pizza, which may be the best food on the planet. LOL! I have planned throughout wt. loss & maintenance for pizza once a week. My current favorite is DiGiorno Ultimate Pepperoni. I have 1/6 of the pizza, which is 26 NC & 310 calories. I tend to get all bloaty & arthritis gets creakier with processed foods, but, thankfully, that amount that often doesn't seem to bother me.

Maryea - Going back to writing down what you eat is in MHO a good move.

Planning seems to be an important part of the equasion for all of us. Here's to all being able to stick to our plans (at least for the most part).

Have a great day & God Bless.

Good Morning All,

My prayers go out to all who are in areas touched by that historic blizzard. Hopefully, everyone got the warning in time to prepare for it & are able to keep warm & safe.

Bunti 02-02-2011 11:59 AM

Good morning everyone. I hope all are safe and warm.

It feels odd to be in Alaska worrying about the extreme weather in the lower 48states. It is an unseasonable 45.5 degrees here, while much of our country is in snow, ice and frigid temps.

Stay safe. (Oh, doing much better here after my processed food foray, I think I have to avoid the white flour foods for awhile longer,.)

Oh, and Joyful Retiree-- I still eat pizza, just not the crust!!!

ANewCreation 02-02-2011 01:50 PM

Good morning friends.

Well, it's back to day one of phase one. Last night I fell head first into dessert and it wasn't pretty. Lesson learned. Either throw it away or freeze it. I have no willpower when it comes to dessert. We don't usually have it in the house but last night it came with our meal co-op dinner.

Again, lesson learned. I'm moving forward (again). :o

The good news is that I have discovered that I will be content to skip mashed potatoes for the rest of my life if I can have the SB mashed cauliflower. Delicious and so much easier than peeling potatoes ;)

I hope everyone is safe and warm.

Jane 02-02-2011 04:18 PM

Hi ladies,

Joyful R - I like the Khashi pizzas, or a portion of regular pizza, depending on how many calories/carbs I'm willing to spend on it. We have a local mom and pop pizzeria that makes the best pizza ever, and sometimes it's just worth it to have some of that.

Bunti - a big YAY for you, doing better. It's all about baby steps, and one day at a time.

Lou - I did find the recipe for the breakfast quiche on our SBD boards. Sounds delish! I've had the cauliflower "mashed potatoes" and like it, too. Neal doesn't care for it, but I keep starches on hand for him to eat on the occasions that I have something like that. Works for us.

Hello to anyone reading this.

We were spared the awful ice storm that much of Indiana got yesterday. Whoot! It's been snowing most of the day, w/o much accumulation, so I went to the grocery to stock up on more fresh produce. One thing I got was another spaghetti squash. Do any of you eat that? I really like it, especially like that it's 40 calories and 10 g of carbs per cup, compared to 200 calories and 40 grams of carbs for regular spaghetti.

Have a good evening, and stay warm.
:snow4:

Bunti 02-02-2011 11:25 PM

Jane, I love spaghetti squash. It works for me. And my 2 and a half year old granddaughter Ellie loves it too. I get a kick out of her asking if I have "sketty vegetables."

joyful retiree 02-03-2011 06:48 AM

Good Morning All,

Bunti - It must be feeling absolutely balmy in Alaska with 45.5 in January. Enjoy it while you can. Glad you are doing better & that you are enjoying the pizza toppings.

Lou - Kudos to you for getting right back on plan. You are not alone. I have had more than my share of off course episodes with desserts. Having it in easy eating distance is often too much temptation to handle. Hopefully, when you get to Phase 2 & can ( I think) add a serving of fruit, that will help with the sweet tooth. Some people find it helpful, but it can spark carb cravings in others, so just be careful.

Jane - Glad to hear you didn't have to deal with the worst of that storm. I like spaghetti squash, too, but then I don't believe I've ever met a veggie I didn't like, just some more than others.

Everyone have a great day & God bless.

Jane 02-03-2011 12:28 PM

Hi,

Bunti - aren't grands just the cutest?

Joyful R - I am lucky that I like veggies, too, and will be so glad to get them fresh out of the garden this spring and summer. Nuthin' like a tomato right off the vine. Yum!

I'm thinking about changing the name of this group to The Age 50+ Counters, to include the calories counters, fat gram counters, Weight Watcher Point counters, etc to increase our membership. What do you think about that?

Neal got the new baby crib put together today. The sides no longer go up and down, for safety's sake. Seems odd. Little Holden isn't expected for about 10 more weeks, but the time will fly.

Have a good day, and try to stay OP. :)

ANewCreation 02-03-2011 01:46 PM

Good afternoon friends!

Jane, I'm fine with opening this thread to others. The more the merrier! Glad you missed the worst of the storm :D How's the spring cleaning going? While I would never criticize the safety advances made since my kids were little, I do sometimes wonder how they made it safely through their childhood! Congrats on putting the new/safer crib together!

Yesterday went very well for me. I must remind myself that it's only two weeks of phase one--I will be able to incorporate more carbs at the end of that time. I sure do miss fruit.....:( ..but I will see how I do with it. I'm hoping I tolerate berries (they are my favorite and I've got freezer full of it :dizzy

Bunti, I had pizza toppings a couple of days ago. Oh, it was delicious and to be truthful I didn't miss the crust at all. One of our co-op meals came with calazones. I skipped the spag sauce (it tasted sweet) and just pulled out the cheese/meats from the bread. I will often take spaghetti sauce & toppings & put it over spaghetti squash or zucchini squash. Delish!

Jane, I'm like you--I haven't met a veggie I don't like (okay, canned okra grosses me out). I don't miss carbs too much when I substitute a veggie (mashed cauliflower for potatoes for example) but I am a nut for dessert and therein lies the rub  Growing up my mother made dessert for us every night. My dad worked construction and loved his desserts! Can I blame genetics??? :^:

Have a great day!
