Thumbs up September Points Challenge

Here is a challenge for us to try and reach our own personal goals for the month of September, using a 4 point system. Decide on 4 goals you would like to reach each day, then report in daily with your progress. Please make one initial post, then edit it each day. Anyone reading this is welcomed and encouraged to join! Let's do it!!

Note- this has nothing to do with Weight Watcher's point system.

I don't usually go for challenges, but I think this kind is doable, and will help me form new habits.

My personal challenges for one point each are:

1) to keep within my calorie allowance and focus mainly on whole foods.

2) to eat at least 4 veggies a day, and 2 fruits.

3) to get at least 20 minutes of intentional exercise daily.

4) to drink 4 cups of water a day, in addition to the fluids I get in food, and other liquids.

Sundays are free days. By that, I mean I have a planned treat on Sundays, and don't always get my exercise in.

9/01 - 4 pts.
9/02 - 4 pts.
9/03 - 4 pts.
9/04 - 4 pts.
9/05 - day off
9/06 - 1 pt. - sick all day w/flu No exercise, no fruit and veggies, very litle water.
9/07 - 3 pts. no exercise - extremely sore torso from day before.
9/08 - 4 pts.
9/09 - 4 pts.
9/10 - 4 pts.
9/11 - 2 pts. overindulged a bit on my birthday. Also, no exercise.
9/12 - day off
9/13 - 4 pts.
9/14 - 4 pts.
9/15 - 4 pts.
9/16 - 3 pts. - no exercise
9/17 - 4 pts.
9/18 - 3 pts. went over calories. Ironically, I had loads of exercise today!
9/19 - day off
9/20 - 4 pts.
9/21 - 4 pts.
9/22 - 4 pts.
9/23 - 4 pts.
9/24 - 4 pts.
9/25 - 4 pts.
9/26 - day off
9/27 - 4 pts.
9/28 - 4 pts.
9/29 - 3 pts. went over calories. No excuse!
9/30 - 4 pts.

(3) 100 hand weight reps per M-W-F-S-S, Tuesday/Thursday 1 hour bone builders class
(4) Find and post a belly laugh per day, it's good for the soul!

My Challenges are:
1) Eat between 1200 and 1400 Calories a day.
2) Eat no more than 9 carb servings a day.
3) Drink 64 oz of water as well as other fluids a day.
4) Exercise a minimum of 20 minutes a day.

My goals:
1. Drink 64 fl oz each day.
2. Record food in Diet Power log; use Diabetic Food Pyramid as guideline.
3. Exercise minimum of 20 minutes a day.
4. Post each day.

9/3 3 pts. didn't exercise

Hi,
Sorry I missed yesterday but I`ve been in bed with a miserable sinus infection (so bad my upper teeth were killing me!) I`m feeling better today so I`m ready to start.

My 4 daily goals are:
1. not to put anything into my mouth without writing it down on my sheet religiously
2. work out for 15 minutes every morning (yes, sigh, I know it`s not much and I`m a wimp but I really do hate hate hate it!!)
3. Not to pick at DH and DS yucky French Fries
4. Get at least 5 glasses of water (I`ve been having trouble with this lately because I switched from expresso every morning to tea (sometimes decaf tea) and I`ve turned toward diet-pepsi for the caffeine kick. Now I`m trying to wean off the diet pepsi by not buying it, but buying diet 7-up instead, no caffeine in that.

Day
1. out sick
2. 1 point No FF NOT to pick at so I didn`t count it. I only got 6 glasses of water in.
3. 1 point again only for the water. Out to eat so I couldn`t weigh & write
4. 0 point I`m having such a hard time getting started
5. 1 point for writing down my food. I did buy a resistance band today for exercise!
6. 2 ponts for logging food & water-only read websites for resistance band exercises.
7. 2.66 points. I only exercised for 10 min so only 2/3 of a point
8. 3 points! Finally!! Also from today on I am changing no FF to no Fried Foods so I can count it. Jane suggested this in an earlier post but I only read it yesterday. Thanks Jane!
9. 4 points! AT LAST!!
10. 4 points again!
11. 0 points - totally fell off the wagon (I made a cake for DS and ate some )
12. 0 points - went to a birthday party and didn`t even try to resist
13. 1 point - only for the water. DH cooked last night. I asked for chicken cacciatore. My weight is up .7k....so I have got to get back on track today!
14. 3 points, didn`t exercise but weight down .2 I MUST GET MY EXERCISE IN THIS AM
15. 3 points - I can`t exercise. I did something to my right knee, I see the MD today at 11 I can`t straighten it or put weight on it and it hurts.
16. 3 points - saw the MD = torn cartilage
17. 3 points - but lost another lb - been vegan for the last 2 days - great salads & soups!
18. 3 points - I forgot to put this in the other day
19. 2 points - only for water and logging
20. 4 points------finally....again - I decided to pick up the resistance band and stretch
21. 4 points
22. 4
23. 4
24. 4
25. 1 point for the water
26. 0 points - really stressful w/e!
27. 0
28. 1
29. 1 - too much going on - I have been SOOOO bad and lazy - I confess!

Well. ladies, the September challenge is over! Congratulations to all who finished it!

I had a few "under points" days, but think all in all, I did ok. "Perseverance, not perfection", right? I know I got more exercise in September than I had before, and that has spurred me on!

Bobbi, thank you for the quotes. They gave me a good chuckle every day!

How do each of you feel about your progress in September?

Well I didn`t do as well at all as I had hoped. I started out motivated but then I think I got bored and then toward the end of the month I received some bad news that has totally thrown me for a loop. Will post about it in daily chatters.

Challenges are good for me, they seem to be the only thing that will keep me motivated. I need to change my goals for the October challenge so I don't get bored. Lynn's idea of 3 veggie a day is a good start, I eat more than that so not sure I'll put that one down.
