~March Golden Girls~

We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50...
We are the Golden Girls...

There is Value in us
There is Power in us
There is Wisdom in us
And Laughter....
We are a rainbow of unique wonders,
There is love in us.
(poem by Dorothy Holmes)

Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark?
Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!

Yay March!!!! This is our month to shine, GG's!!!! Let's DO it!!!! Happy (almost) Spring! My daffodils aren't up yet, but my DH bought me big bouquet of them, so my kitchen table is looking decidedly spring-like!!!!

Have a great March 1st!

Back in a bit...

March is here not like a lamb nor a lion, more like an angry cat. It's overcast with a few intermittent ice pellets mixed with a scattered snow flurry.

My back is still letting me know I'm still alive. :D I was once listening to an interview on the radio some years ago on body piercing. The interviewer was talking with a young person who'd had her tongue pierced and asked if it wasn't uncomfortable. She replied that although it was painful when it was "firsth done, it made her more aware of herselth and lifthe". (or some such words as that) So now whenever I'm in pain I think of that girl and laugh.

Anyhoo, gone to hobble about with mom's walking cane. Have a great day.

Ahhhh, REALLY nasty drive into work today - traffic was bumper-to-bumper for miles, and I couldn't stop yawning....got to my office almost an hour later than usual. Oh, well. Nobody's going to do my work FOR me, so it's always here waiting when I arrive!
Okay. Today is IT. I am giving myself two months to lose an additional 10 pounds. Absolutely achievable, right? I have created a "Wendie" chart for myself with my calorie counts figured for each day, and daily menus. Well, daily menus for THIS week; I'll do the menus weekly - too time consuming to do them two months at a time. PT, I believe that WW points are 1 = 50 calories. At least I'm fairly sure (anybody?) that's the equivalency breakdown. I transcribed it into calories quite some time ago and I THINK that's what I used, but can't remember for sure. Someone else here must know? Anyway, I am tired of my wavering back and forth all through January and February, and now it's time to put nose to the grindstone and get it done, which is what I plan to do. Will I be hungry? Will I have cravings for stuff I can't have? Oh, you betcha! Will I give in and eat off-plan? No, no, and a thousand times, NO. You are my witness(es): if I mess up THIS time around, I'll be scared to show my face here.
Isabella, I'm sending you very warm and healing vibes :goodvibes. Same to you, Karen, Lynn, Georgia, Rosey, and anyone else who needs them. (I think you're okay, Freda? ;)) And, Bobbi, I'm hoping those contractors of yours get their act together and get that work done so you can use your new rooms!
Okay, I've undoubtedly missed people that I wouldn't want to miss, but I'm at work, and gotta run...I'll make up for it later.
Happy March First!!!

I'm here and reporting for shrinking-my-booty duty! I'm starting WW today, my personal rowing challenge, and I'm feeling the energy surge of warmth from Ella...thank you!

Isabella......hang in there!

Good morning, All.....
Ah, March! Ah, something NEW! Yes, let this be a good month for us all... and how nice that your DH brought you pretty flowers, PT, so you could send some springtime to us, too! I'd love to see your Wendie chart, because I'm finding that all kind of boggling, if you're willing to share. Can you send me your "real" email address via personal message?

Cold, icky, some white stuff today... it'll be fine in a few days, but the WeatherFools are predicting "something big" for the weekend.

Isabella, you made me laugh out loud with the lisphing! Hope you feel better!

Good day, everyone! Be safe and warm...

Good Morning GG,

It's lovvely here today. The sun is shining, and the snow is meling. already off the roofs and melting from the ground quickly. YEAH! I am afraid to look at the weather. I don't want to hear that it is going to be anything else.

Z, Aren't daffodils a perfect flower for spring? Can't get anyting more "sunny". And of course you can lose the weight for spring. We're rooting for you!!

Lynn, I love the dancing baby.

Isabella, I had to laugh at the "lisping" too. My grands are young yet and i'm praying they don't get piercing. Or tattos. at least not offensive ones or whole body ones....or... I hope you are up and "running" around soon. Not fun when you'e out of commision. After awhile i actually craved exercise.

Georgia, I know you will do well with WW. And we're here with encouragement anytime. My sister lost over 100 pounds with WW.

Donna, I havent's looked into the Wendy thing, but hope it works well for you.

Take care ladies,

Freda

Hi all - new to the forum but not 3FC.

Spring in Southern Arizona is so fleeting but oh so wonderful. Of course it isn't much different from winter except that the cactus begin to bloom :) The longer days of sunlight certainly give my brain a needed boost for increasing physical activity.

Looking forward to getting to know my fellow wise women!

Love your weight squiggly, Sskar (your real name??).... glad to have you with us!

Another post lost in cyber space. I apologize in advance if this shows up twice...

March is roaring in like a lion with rain and wind. Surprisingsly, I have managed to remain OP with South Beach. It's like an old familiar friend now.
The weekend was nice. DH and I went to an early matinee at the local theatre. It was my turn to pick and pickings were slim. I chose Shutter Island. Sorry I can't recommend it. We both left the theatre with an unsettled feeling. Based on a book by Dennis Lehayne. I had forgotten, don't care for his writing much. I guess Leonardo di Caprio was the draw. Personally, I have been on a Cormac McCarthy kick. Recently read The Journey, All The Pretty Horses, and currently on The Crossing.

SSKAR: We've met if you remember the "fatty liver" post. The OP hasn't been back to comment. I checked out your blog, great going. Nice to meetcha! What type of dog in your avatar?

Freda: Waving Hi..glad the sun is shining for you.

Donna: Waving Hi..Good luck on WW

Georgia: Shrink that booty girl! row, row, row your boat!

Ella: Ten pound in two months is do-able. I say go for it. I'd be happy with 8. I'm cheering you on.

Izzy: ROFL! DD had her tongue pierced behind my back . I wanted to kill her. That stupid lisping thing and just a horrible thing to do! We're at that "iffy" age of "ha ha I'm 18, you're not the boss of me!" I was terrified that she would also get a tatoo. TERRIFIED. I said not a word! It was so hard. About 6 mos. later the horrible piercing was gone and my beautiful daughter is tatoo-less. Graduated university, happily married, great job as a social worker and adorable daughter. HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF. Can you imagine anything worse than going forward as 60 yr old woman old woman with a bunch of horrible tatoos? I cringe every time I see this on a pretty young woman. Have to laugh though.. I snuck behind my mother's back on an overnight when I was 15 and pierced my own ears!

Lynne: And we're dancing...

Zoe: Daffodills! Such an exstravagance! Give that man a hug for me!

Bobbi: Always an inspiration. Hang in there sweetie. There's an end in sight.

geoblewis 03-02-2010 01:33 AM

Just a quick check-in tonight. Feeling my abs and glutes tonight, as well as my biceps. Talk about a full body workout. That rowing machine is going to kick my booty!

And it made me hungrier too. Had the munchies throughout the evening. Went over points budget tonight, but I can tell how the WW method helps with portion control, which is what I need the most.

Now, sleep is the best thing for me. TTFN!

jess1 03-02-2010 02:13 AM

Hey, Rosey, I'm also tattooed! It's a faded (and grossly stretched out of shape) butterfly (of course). My doctor offered to remove it when I got spayed, but I kept it. I had to laugh at the description of the tattooed lady... I've always wondered about the old woman on the autopsy table (named Tiffi, with an I), tattooed and with perky implants!
Tomorrow...........

Sskar 03-02-2010 02:15 AM

Donna - my real name is Jan. I use Sskar for my blog after having some stalking problems from an old boyfriend - and I mean REALLY old. I've been with my current partner 20 years. LOL

Releve - yes, I remember the "fatty liver" thread. Hopefully we can bolster each other's "nonmedical" advice. Although a thoroughly western trained doc, I believe in many methods of healing. The dog is our lab-retriever mix, Mattie, in her glory days riding in my BMW. (My glory days also - I drive a 4WD truck now for scaling the mountains of Arizona and getting through the flooded washes.)

Trying hard to get back to my exercise routine after trip to take care of my parents who have what my sibs and I are calling "acute aging syndrome". It's definitely hard to watch, but they are doing it so gracefully.
