  • Hi everyone. Happy Friday.
What is it about the end of the day that makes us feel like eating. I guess it is a reward for all the stuff we did in the day. For me it is the workplace and my late hours. Not a good combination. I have asked about the terrible food they leave around for us but nothing has changed. They said they were going to change the vending machines when the contract runs out but heaven knows when that is. I never carry money so they are not the problem it is all the free food left lying around.

So Happy Mothers Day to everyone that is a mother out there.

I myself am going to have a nice day. It is going to be lovely and sunny so I plan a walk to the beach and maybe a skinny latte. Then I am going to spend some time on my quilt. I asked a friend to come out for dinner if she is free. She has kids so she hopes they will spend time with her. But if not then I will cook us something. No sign of my kids but that is nothing new.
When in doubt make other plans.

My food has been pretty good and the scale is starting to move. I will need extra willpower to get through Sunday though.

Just need to find lots to do to keep me busy. There is a huge plant sale at a local church tomorrow so I am going to buy some flowers for my yard. They will need to be planted.
    How is everyones day going?

    Cheers....Jude
  • Way to go Lexxiss you are an exercising machine. You and Laurie leave me in the dust.
  • Debbie - no slips, Fantastic. Sounds like you had a great day! So glad you have you with us, we just love new folk!

Jude - glad the scale is moving Make a plan for Sunday - no need to have it derail you. You CAN do this!

Hi to everyone else! I hope your Friday was terrific!

A good day here. Went out with friends after work, the grocery shopping and finished the day around the firepit with DH. I saw several people today that I hadn't seen in a couple years. It was fun to see people's reactions to a 95 lb smaller me. I haven't had that for a while, most folk have gotten used to the "new" me.

Tomorrow is supposed to be colder and rainy - which means I may get some indoor stuff done. :cross:

My plans for Sunday are pretty simple - church then visit MIL and call my Mom and probably spend an our or so talking to DS1 and DIL.

Mother's Day is the one day of the year (well, one of a few - Christmas and Easter too) that I refuse to go out to eat. I hate the crowds, the wait, and the food. And then there is the NOISE (some things about wearing hearing aids I hate - and crowded rooms is one of them).

Not sure what we are eating (I'm certainly not cooking), but whatever it is - it will be at home

Whatever your plans, I hope you have a fun weekend!

    Laurie
  • Hi
    Hi All
Just checking in. My new habit is to sit down in the morning with my coffee and spend some time with my new friends It's a great to have a time to contemplate and plan for my day.

Jude, you reminded me of how emotional my eating can be. When something is amiss in my life in my relationships with others I can feel this tug in my gut that says eat eat eat. I hope you may find some peace in your heart on Sunday and stay on plan. Like Laurie said, "You can do it!"

Laurie, I perused your before and after photos this morn. Congratulations! I want what you have. I have to admit I am crying a bit. I really hate having my picture taken and wish it were different. I want very much to be able to smile and have confidence and be able to show my pictures to everyone. I am getting better about taking pictures, but unless there is no other choice, I'm usually not the subject.

So after my moment of pain, I am going to sign off and face the day. I had a clean day yesterday so I can do it again today. I am going to a memorial service and there will be lots of food, so I am going to be vigilant. There....I'm feeling better now.

I just recognized that I had not made any plan for exercise and now I have. I will keep my bike on the car and pedal a bit from the park while everyone else is eating and drinking.

    Best Regards!
    Debbie R (Lexxiss)
  • Debbie - thanks for your kind words! Look how far you have come already! You WILL be posting your goal pictures and I WILL be reading your goal story here at 3FC.

Starting the day with a plan and accountability (posting here) really does make a difference. Social eating can be tricky and challenging. I choose to look at those occasions as a challenge - how close to staying on plan can I come? What choices can I make that help me toward my goal of health and fitness? I hope you enjoyed your bike ride!

Well, shape boxing is waiting - I'm off to get in my workout for today. Hope everyone has a fun and productive and on plan weekend!

    Laurie
  • Hi everyone!

I think what makes us want to eat at the end of the day has several components, but the main one is that it's time to relax, and for many, relax = eat and/or drink. Also, it's usually been awhile since the last snack, so a person is probably hungry! So--an opportunity for planning, knowing that the desire will come up. For example, a low-cal "appetizer" while fixing dinner, or a cup of favorite tea, made slowly and savored.

Lexxiss, glad to see you posting! Don't feel sad--you can change this! Stick with it...

CD, I often check in with your photos--they are so encouraging! I also love to read your posts because you're a caring and positive person.

Well, today is the first day that I have managed to get back to my morning walks. Are you all shocked to hear that I didn't do them for awhile? Two things led to my losing track. One was the change of season--when it starts to be summer in Fla., you have to get out earlier to do anything outside. So, in the fall/winter/spring, I could go walking at any time; now I have had to shift so that I get out there around 8 a.m. or earlier. The other thing was the dental work last Monday. It's hard for me to believe that it could throw me so much, but evidently it did. Anyway, I went this morning and renewed my appreciation for my walks. I get my metabolism going, get the kinks out, get some sunlight!! and also hear the birds and bees and smell the flowers.

I've also not been doing as much at the gym, although I still go just as often. So that's the next thing to improve.

Today I ought to work outside later on, but I am soooo not in the mood. I think I'll catch up with my work instead...

No mothers or Mother's Day plans here--except that we may go to see Star Trek. We'll be avoiding restaurants.

CD, what does the "shape" in shape boxing refer to?

    Jay

    See ya!
  • Aw, Jay - thanks so much for your kind words! Coming from you - they mean a lot.
Shape Boxing is the term that Gold's Gym uses to refer to that section of their workout. You go through routines that are basically boxing, ducking, and weaving combinations. The instructor gives you tips on perfect form like, "don't forget to turn from the waist and use your lower body for power." From what I can see, the shape is mostly upper body contouring, with some core worked in. Since you are shifting your weight front-back-front-back throughout the whole routine, it is a cardio workout (thus the name of the program) which does incorporate the use of the legs, just doesn't target them.

The exercise portion of the program has a broader body focus and includes running, push ups, crunches, squats, and jumping rope (in my dreams only). Here is a link to a good description.

Good for you getting out walking again. Don't discount what you went through with your dental work. It took me several weeks to feel "normal" again after the last dental surgery I had. You are one of the most dedicated and consistent chicks around these parts - I'm betting that you will be back into your exercise groove very soon!

LOL - I think one of the nicest things about being over 50 is that I follow my moods a lot more when choosing chores. I do tend to put off things that aren't appealing - though sometimes that gets me in trouble

Speaking of which, I need to stop typing and get my vacuuming done.

    Enjoy your weekend all!

    Laurie
  • LOL - talking to myself again

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! Typical Sunday for us - church, shopping, chores, visiting relatives, talking to family, and cooking for the week. We did take the scooters out to visit DH's mom.

I made a great cheese spread for crackers - very simple
1 part Laughing Cow (I like the light herb garlic)
    1 part plain yogurt
    sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese
season to taste (I add Mrs. Dash and another seasoning blend that I make)

Gotta fly - we are going to get a hard freeze tonight - I have plants to cover
  • Wow, CD, how can you be having a hard freeze at this point in MAY?? Weird!

We are at 90 degrees here... and no rain... not good! Water is rationed for lawns, etc. Can't wash cars, driveways.

We went to see Star Trek at the morning showing. $5! The theater was pretty full, even at that hour (around 10 a.m.). Any Trek fans here? Go see it! It's good entertainment. Somewhat corny in some ways, but hey, it's Star Trek. LOVE that Spock!

Oh--for movie treats I had a 1.5 ounce box of raisins that I brought with me. These days, movie popcorn just doesn't have much appeal. Even the smell is a bit off... although of course, it reminds me of movies in days gone by.

For dinner we had steak! and salad--nice big salad with olives, blue cheese, edamame, and light balsamic dressing. Pretty high in calories, but very yummy--and I think I had room for the day.

Now, what did you all do?

    Jay
  • Hi all - slow start to the week around here!
    Another hard freeze again tonight

Jay - I remember my brother's wedding in June and it snowed ****

Thanks for the info on Star Trek. DH is a confirmed Trekie - I've seen all the originals, and all the movies, and even the spinoff series - but I'm not quite the devotee that he is.

Sounds like he would definitely enjoy it!

Absolutely AWESOME job with your movie snacks! I can't take much more than that with me because I will eat mindlessly while watching the film. Raisins are a perfect snack to take - what a good idea.

Gotta fly - church meeting again tonight. Hopefully we can take the scooters, even though it is still a bit chilly.
  • Hey folks, remember that 3FC will be offline starting around noon. New server!

Where is meowee these days? Haven't seen her in a long time!

CD, oh yeah, Trekkies like your DH should definitely get there! While it's on the big screen!

We need Star Trek smilies, don't you think? Well, live long and prosper!

    Jay
  • Jay - Trekkie smilies are a great idea! I had to hunt one down

Hope everyone is having a good day! Busy here - another meeting tonight. Dinner is going to have to be something quick on the grill. But, I did get in some yoga and shape boxing after work
  • CD, I love it!!!!!

Looks like you and I are talking to ourselves in here...

I'm hoping we'll get lucky and have a thunderstorm today. That's the usual summer pattern.

Are you still freezing up there, CD? I remember snow in June in the mountains of Utah, but golly, that was the mountains!

I watched the Biggest Loser finale. Generally I don't like that show--I think they do dangerous things, and all the emphasis is on exercise--but I wanted to see who won. I'm glad it was the oldest woman! And I'm glad that the oldest man won the at-home contest.

Hello to everyone who's reading and not posting!

    Jay
  • Indeed, it is kinda lonely here. You may be right about this thread having run its course. Of course I LOVE talking with you

Still cold, we did get rain today. We needed it so that was good. Couldn't scoot, though.

I don't watch BL either, but I did watch the last 10 minutes since so many MI folk were involved this year. I was also happy to see older folk winning

I am currently attending a pre-retirement webinar. Trying to educate myself regarding all my options as the next several years unfold.

I am really noticing a difference in my upper body since starting boxing. I am liking the results!

For any lurkers - c'mon and post!
  • Hi everyone. Not lurking. Have been so busy this week with stuff. Been trying to get time at work to post.
Unfortunately have not made it to the gym once this week and do not like that. Have had something I had to do every day this week. I have next week off though and it will be a week at the gym.
My food has been pretty good. Been to a stress management course and a course on food and mood. Some interesting things. Got some good ideas on managing stress and that should help with the food.
I watched BL as well. Now I enjoy it. Certainly a lot of exercise. What I get out of it is how honest some of the contestants are about their journey.
Definitely a good inspiration from the older winners.

Hey Jay you sound like you are doing all the right things there. Myself I never eat at the movies. Stopped years ago. Well if I eat popcorn I would have to have a drink and then I would have to pee.... so just enjoy the show.
I am not a trekkie. Have never watched even one of them.
Laurie I do not know where you find the hours in the day. You sure are a busy woman. Great to hear how exercise is such a priority for you. I am getting there. I am liking the gym but this week too many meetings got in the way.
Linda must still be away lending support to family.
Great weather there Jay. Too hot for me. We have rain. No freeze but it sure is wet.

I went to my friends for Mothers day. She has 4 daughters and they all made dinner for everyone. It was fun.
Myself I was home till 330pm but no phone call, no card. Yikes where did I go wrong!!

Such is life. Food could have been better but was not a disaster. So was happy with that. It was nice to be out with people that like me.

Hope you are all having a good week. Don't close the thread I would certainly miss it.
    Take care everyone......Jude
