Good Morning . . . :grouphug:
We have :sunny: this morning . . . and now that the wind has died down to the level of lion-cub; I can see that we really only got about 2 to 3 inches yesterday. Unfortunately, we have another storm scheduled for tomorrow night through Wednesday. Hopefully it will be mostly rain and wash away the snow again -- seems to be our weather pattern this season. Nothing too exciting for me today . . . must atttend to a few errands and get a little frolick in the sun along the way. So far the eating is on track this month and I plan to add today to it for 3 in a row. :yay: We must rejoice in all the small victories in order to pave the way for the bigger ones. Have a great and fun day, everybody. See you soon . . . |
RE: the new garden...
Freda, by "exotic" I just meant vegetable varieties I can't find locally at the feed store...like mauve colored eggplant and white grape tomatoes! Phyllis, the marigolds are to keep bugs away. I don't think we have bunnies around here...well, never seen one! And, yep most of the vegs are going in those "square foot" gardens...no weeds, no tilling etc. I have an herb garden on my patio that is all in great big pots (the dogs can't "sprinkle" them!) but the rest of my gardens (roses, tropicals etc) are all in the ground. |
Ack! I am so deathly freaking sick of looking at snow and having to dress in fifty freaking layers of clothes and boots to step out the door that I could just plain scream! :tantrum: And, I know it does no good whatsoever to kvetch and complain and carry on, because it'll stop when it stops and spring will arrive when it arrives, and that's all there is to it. Blah.
All I want is to be able to throw on some lightweight pants and a pair of flip-flops (oh and some kind of top, too, of course) and go out my door. That's all. I called my son on Saturday evening and he felt so bad....said how sorry he was...you know, like someone had passed away and he was offering his condolences. He said, "OH, I wish I could bear this burden for you, Mum..." And THEN he said, "Well, not EXACTLY. I mean, that's why I'm in L.A.! The temperature here is 75 degrees! hahahahahahaha! Now this was SO absolutely not funny from my perspective. If he'd been in front of me, I swear I would've wrung his neck for him! So, he says, "Grab a last-minute flight and c'mon out here!" So that redeemed him a little but not much. Phyl, I hope Ohio - or the part you'll be in - has a milder winter than we do in the northeast. It must, right? We're farther north than Ohio, after all. Of course, being retired will make a huge difference. You don't have to drag yourself outside unless you feel like it. I'm very glad for you about that, m'dear! Karen3, so sorry about your losses. Wish I could say something to make it better, but know, anyway, that I care. Well, this is definitely a fly-through, but wanted to say that with this being the first Monday in March and all, I'm seriously re-committing to my diet. Counting and measuring everything that passes my lips. Eating lots of fiber. Drinking lots of water. Exercising some. (Some is better than none, right?) I plan on looking HALF-way decent come summer this year, and that's the truth. Jo-annie  Hugs all around...I'm missing everyone and will be back soon but my Boca burger is calling to me and I'm a tad on the ravenous side. :grouphug: Z |
Hi GOLDEN GIRLS LOL silly me I thought for sure just because its only Mar 3 I wouldn't have a any problems catching up and getting back on track with my GG's. OK so I tried I scanned quickly all the notes -- sorry to everyone still suffering with snow -- we most likely will not get any now (that will mean anything) until Nov. Zoe like your DS this is why I live and will never leave the west coast. I get all four seasons and as much as I loath the snow - I do love when we get our bit of it on the mountains and its breathtakingly lovely on clear beautiful days. I wish I had a camera to do the picture justice. Actually this is one of the best positives of having to spend the nights with my mom - aside from the reconnections. Her condo has the most fabulous views north, east and south and I could just sit and drink it in -- she loves it too. Quite honestly she is doing really really well. Her numbers are very good and I am thinking she is responding well to the chemo. Its draining -- her hair is just about gone - I tease her that she is like living with a golden retriever. She just carries her lint brush everywhere and has a beautiful wig. I also gave her an old sun hat of mine and she LOVES it. So she has a great attitude - and now (I hope) I can get back here and concentrate on what I need to do for me.
So I finally visited my old nemesis  -- the SCALE and I have to own the numbers - they aren't good. I have to change my numbers here I and I can't ignore how much I have put on. My clothes were not fitting -- I felt pudge -- heck frikken fat. So here we go and I have to admit aside from the visit to the scale I was in my Safeway on Friday night and low and behold to my delight and surprise they were selling LAVASH bread. I read with envy all the adventures the other GG's were having with lavash bread and I felt it was a sign to get back here -- to reconnect and get help to get back down to where I was and further. So to Bobbi, Linda, Karen (x2 LOL) Zoe, Phyllis, Lyn, Cat, Lynn, Yoyo and everyone else here I am back and ready to make my GG's part of my daily plan to eat right, exercise, get and give support and own up to what I did to myself. :carrot: |
I'm baaaack...
Hello Everyone,
This is just a quick note to let you all know that I have NOT fallen off the ends of the earth. I'm back from my business trip to Boston. Sorry - I am way way behind in all things at work and home, and I don't have time to get caught up on this thread. Please just know that I am jumping right back in and that I care about all of you. I did reasonably well for most of the days while I was away. No exercise, though, and that's difficult for me. Then yesterday, after 5 days of eating fairly well, I suddenly lost it and started cramming unmentionables down my throat. Weird - I'd just gotten home and I guess the "reentry" was difficult. Ugh! Today I'm still not feeling quite in the "zone." I don't have decent groceries in the house, and that's part of the problem. Gotta go out and get some. Hugs to you all, |

AK Rosey..Moose steak? Wow, I never tasted moose. Is it like venison?
|
Rosey...........I see you eat game too! The last Elk DH bagged was in full rut and very strong tasting. I found a really good recipe for marinated Elk, Moose or Venison. It's called "Outrageously Wonderful Marinated Venison". It's from the Taste of Home and I use it on all the Elk Roast, takes out the strong flavor and tenderizes it. It would work on less tender cuts of beef too! Since we're only two people I usually cut this recipe in half but I had a 3.5 lb. Elk roast and wanted to whole batch. I injected some of this directly into the meat. The garlic has to be mashed so it doesn't plug up the injector.
6 boneless venison steaks or whatever type game meat. Mix following together and marinate meat overnight in zip bag so it can be turned several times 1/2 cup white vinegar 1/2 cup ketchup 2 Tbls. olive oil (It was 4 but I cut it down to lower calories) 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 1/2 tsp. ground mustard 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp pepper I marinated a 3.5 pound Elk roast overnight in this, next day put meat and marinate into a slow cooker on low all day. It was moist and tender. Today I made Elk Vegetable soup with the left over meat and used the marinate as the soup base, very rich flavor. Bobbi |
Morning GG's
What is it with spring coming on and gardening? I mean I'm not a big gardener and even I start thinking about what I would like to with the yard and about having a garden. Took our dogs to a fenced in dog park here in Portland yesterday for the 1st time. They were pretty funny because they have never been around that many dogs at one time. They kept going up to people, like help what do I do about all these dogs. They weren't even interested in the other dogs. I think we'll have to take them a few more time to see if they get used to it plus it's great to have an area you can let them off the lease and have a large area to run in. Does anyone else go through those times when your doing really well with staying on track with eating and your excited about where your headed to your goals and then BAM! you think you want to eat everything you think about and none of it is good! HELP! EM |

Hello GG's
Echoing JJ's thought here ~ the month has just begun and I am behind already keeping up with everyone's posts. That is a good thing though ~ it wouldn't be as nice a place if people posted infrequently. Gotta work tonight. I'll have to try and catch up on my days off. Take care all |
EM.......love dogs! We live out in the country and our English Setter only runs in our acreage because he was trained when a pup. We had a huge fire in near by town where a meat packing plant was destroyed. They have 6.5 acres of land and all kind of speculations of what to do with it. One was a dog park, I wouldn't be using it but I wonder about aggressive dogs, dogs with fleas, timid dogs, etc. What are your thoughts on that?

Evening y'all....Wow! Rosey please post moose pics. Dh and I have bow hunted all over low 48 and Canada. That's bear, moose, elk, whitetails, mulies, carp, rabbits, grouse, and pheasants. Eaten them all and really only one didn't like was bear. Tasted like mushy pork. Probably missed a few critters. With a bow you have to be rather close and have had some wild times.
Favorite recipe: Take thin slices of meat, dip in seasoned bread crumbs with parn cheese and egg wash back in crumbs....brown in pan....put on cookie sheet. Bake 20 minutes....oil gets drawn out. Serve with canned green beans that have been mariated in Italian dressing. I have served a crowd with this. Good for you as game is very low in cholestrol. Planned for 40 yrs to use leftover for vension parmesan and so far haven't had leftovers. DD is now using this recipe as her speciality. We have water again...but have to boil it to use. Last time that happened I had just had eye surgery. What a pain boiling water to wash my hair. Em...I know exactly what you mean. It's almost like success scares me. Gotta post today's game on interent. Be good to yourself, eat healthy and hugs...karen3 |
Okay, anyone have the answer to this.
I was up and down all Saturday night with an apparent urinary infection. On Sunday, I found myself for the first time since starting my program in January STARVING! All I wanted to do was eat on Sunday. Now, on Saturday, I decided to play with this flex point thing and had a few Irish Potatoes, the first real junk food in almost two months. Do you think my sudden hunger was because of the health problem, or because of the sugar I ate on Saturday? Patti |
OM, I am gonna ask for forgiveness not catching up with personals from my last post. You have all been very busy in my absence. I will try to do better!
Put me in the sick of snow and wishing I could garden camp. We had freezing rain and ice and then snow today. I TOTALLY understand where all those snowbirds are coming from now. The older I get, the less I like Northern Michigan weather :( Patti - it could be from either. Any change in my routine can trigger those insatiable hunger days. Karen - glad you have water! Cat - the garden varieties sound wonderful! Particularly the tomatoes :) Zoe - our kids in CA are similar. They complain about rain and 55 F weather to us. It really isn't humorous at all. They actually went to Yosemite so they could go skiing because they miss the snow. Oh, if I could just send ALL of it to them ... I hope you all had a great day! I hope I can catch up more tomorrow!
