black cohosh

  • Has anyone tried black cohosh for menopause
  • I tried it for about 6 months (Remifemin) plus Evening Primrose Oil. Didn't do squat for me.
  • My daughter bought it for me. She thought it might help with my hot flashes. I'm only on it a couple of weeks.
  • Some women do find that it helps--I had an M.D. suggest that I try it. I didn't use it consistently enough, though.

  • one of the Doctors where I work was doing a study on Black cohosh. I was supposed to be in the study but couldn't because of some lab tests that were off. But they found that it is effective for some people. If you try it, I hope you find it beneficial.
  • I used it when my periods got out of whack. It worked very well for me. I have not used it since. DH (a pharmacist) warned me that it should be used for short periods of time only.

I incorporate quite a bit of soy into my diet. This seems to be helping me control my hot flashes fairly well.
  • I've used soy isoflavones with a little success for hot flashes. Never tried black cohosh because I remember someone once telling me it could be hard on the heart . . . but, this article from Yahoo -- http://health.yahoo.com/nutrition-su...-d04472a1.html -- would seem to indicate that they might have been thinking of blue cohosh.
