It's Tuesday

Good Morning gals,

Well, I lost 2 pounds, and that brings me back to the weight that is on my ticker at the bottom. I never changed it after gaining the 4 pounds when I fell and gained all that water weight in my swollen leg (plus other wt I'm sure). I feel good this am. Was up at 5 am and took my Actonel (does anyone else take this?...I have trouble remembering the once a week, before first meal etc...) This am I got up, downed my Aconel with a big glass of water, fed the cats, took a shower and read for about 15 minutes. Had my high fiber cereal and stopped for coffee :coffee: on the way in...got to the office before 7!!

Theresa - My hubby works for the Corning, NY City school district as a school psychologist..at least he does until Sept 15th. Then he retires to do something different. In fact, his retirement party at school is this afternoon and I am driving back down to Corning (1.5 hours) to celebrate with him. Then back to LeRoy. Wow, lots of miles on the car this month.

Karen - thanks for the Sandra Dee poem. Yup, things have changed a lot since then..some for the better and some maybe not. I'm glad for my microwave, computer, and other things that allow me more time to relax and read.

Well, on to real work now. Have a great day. We're supposed to get some much-needed rain this afternoon.:rain:

I also have a question I would like to pose. I am considering going off of my Estraderm patch.

You might want to do some research online about the "effects" of going off of it.

I went through menopause early..started in my late 30's. Never took any kind of hrt. And then finally no more hot flashes etc...for a couple of years...then lucky me, total hysterectomy (+bladder lift) 2.5 yrs ago and it started all over again. It took about a year on the second go round of menopause till all of the "symptoms" went away. I weighed the benefits of it (hrt) and decided it wasn't for me..and I'm really bad about forgetting to take pills etc anyway unless I am in pain.

Hi everyone,

Hey Lynn congrats on reaching 15 lb. loss....WAY TO GO! I didn't know your cat was that big, my Mainecoon cat weighed in at 22 lbs, a big boy.

Karen thanks for posting the Welcome sign to Ohio.....it looks like that move will probably happen for us next spring. Do you have an idea when you will put your house on the market and try to move. Houses are selling very slowly down here and are extreamly overpriced so we don't look for a fast sell and we can't afford two places but then we are not in a hurry.

Lily, I didn't use anything when I went through the change....I tired a couple of different things but hated them so just did it natural. As Lynn said sometimes the Hot Flashes are terrible but there are things you can get for that now, including herbs to help. I usually just had them at night, rarely in the day.

Lyn, NC is so beautiful, we love it there. My youngest son is getting transferred to SC after the first of the year about 30 min. from Hilton Head, I am so excited!!!!! Pretty country.

Paula, I hate dealing with hospitals, social workers, etc. I understand they are doing their jobs and some are very understanding, I hope you will work with the caring ones. An hour away from you will be hard if your planning to visit him a lot, do you have other family around to help spread out visits? He is lucky your nearby to help him.

Wow, Theresa you have a great memory. I remember when I got my first microwave....was scared to use it! lol

Ella, I'm here!!!! I agree with you about sitting tight in this housing market. We will put our condo out there in the late fall or Jan. as that is season down here and see what happens.....we cannot afford a loss so we may have to wait too.

Femme, how is puppy doing? My old Doberman is now getting hard of hearing, he is going on 14. He is such a good dog, still loves his walks and rabbit hunts! He sees a rabbit and goes into hunting stance and lifts one paw at a time in slow motion...it is something to see~~~~~~~~of course he is on a long leash!

Good morning to anyone I missed.....Have a great day. Phyllis

Retiring? <perk> What a grand idea, Lyn! There have been many a times that I've kicked myself for not getting my degrees in education & either taught or gone the route your husband took. My ex is a school principal, and he'll probably be retiring soon at 75% of his current $150,000 a year salary. (Note, please, that I wrote all of his papers through college and grad school in order for him to earn that salary!!!!!) My present DH & I are both in the non-profit field - he, a software engineer for a huge hospital/health system conglomerate and I, of course, a former clinical adminstrator who now does federal, state and corporate grantwriting for an international organization for a living. We'll both collect pretty average pensions on top of our social security when we retire (which is what makes the idea of moving somewhere a little less costly so attractive). AND I have had plenty of occasion, over the past 35 and some-odd years to wish that when school was out, I was on vacation, too. (Which I would be, if I'd gone the education route). Ah, well. No use crying over spilt milk, as the saying goes. But I WOULD like to retire while I'm still energetic enough for "other pursuits", yanno? Somehow, it feels like when I finally DO retire, I'll be so danged old about the only thing I'll be capable of pursuing is my next dose of pills.
Oh, Lynn, too bad you're just flitting through Boston. We mighta had a cuppa cawfee together! Oh well, there's always another time.
Karen! GREAT poem! Thanks for sharing! It's so good to have you back with us!
Theresa...you are just doing sooo well! You may have to fill in for Bobbi as the GOLDEN GIRLIE'S Inspiration, eh?
Hey, Phyllis! How's the weather been down there? Listen....I haven't had chicken since last week!!!! I guess I'm about ready to have it again, but it sure did get monotonous for a while there, didn't it?
Paula...hope things are working out okay with your dad...
Hiya Lily! Welcome back! I was wondering what happened to you!
Hi to you, too, Dr. Femme. I always enjoy your posts.
As for the menopausal miasmas, 'tis probably a tad too late for most of you, but my sister, who is ten years older than me, turned me onto Lecithin, which is a seaweed derivative, and we both took it in supplement form from the time we were 35 or so. Menopause came and went with nothing more than six or so months of irregular periods which then stopped completely. NO other symptoms, no hormone replacement therapy necessary, no nothing.
You might want to share the info with daughters and younger friends, though. I have no idea why it works, but apparently my grandmother told my mother who told my sister...etc., etc. Perhaps our family is descended from an ancient band of sea witches.....? :witch:
And a great big HI to Jo-annie, wherever you may be!

Please say I didn't miss anybody!!!! (And if I did, just keep in mind that I'm old, okay? ;) )

TTFN,

Ella :dizzy:

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Hi Paula, what are "blue tips?" Like red hats? Hope things are going as smoothly as possible with your father.

Hi Theresa, where's your photo? Your dog is cute but I really liked seeing you.

Hi Ella, I'm sure you'll be at work when we get into Boston - arriving around 10:30 in the morning a week from today. Feel like driving up to Ogunquit for some coffee? Ella, don't feel bad about NOT choosing education. I chose it & NEVER had a summer off & ALWAYS had 60 hour week jobs. I worked in adult ed & at colleges & at ETS. All of my jobs had awful hours.

Hi Lily, I used to be 5'2", but last time I got measured, I was 5'1". My dh was 6'7". I never noticed our height difference unless I looked at photos.

Hi Lyn, CONGRATULATIONS on your 2 lbs loss! That's GREAT.

Hi Phyllis, Princess Di is over 25 lbs. Last night the fire alarms went off in my building (1 am). My cat went flying somewhere - I couldn't find her. I searched for about 10 minutes - with the alarms screeching - and finally went outside without her. I felt awful, but decided I wasn't going to burn up looking for her. Luckily it was a false alarm.

Today I went to the Dietitian - she was EXTREMELY happy with my blood sugar numbers. Her only advice was to stop obsessing about the numbers - not to worry if my BS was slightly over 120. She thinks I've got it as under control as I can. After such a good report - and after losing another pound today - I went shopping and bought a great skirt and jacket for my trip. Just had to celebrate.

I'm off to check in on the Maintenance Board for the book discussion. Any of you lurking over there?

Hope everyone has a Healthy and Happy day,

Lynn

Karen,
Yes I use my ab lounge, has not been as much as I need to.
I just have not felt very well this week. I am sure I will be feeling much better in the morning and then I will use it more.
I will start at Curves, Come home and do my elliptical for at least 15, then do some crunches.

I do this stuff 3 days a week. And I try to do the elliptical and ab lounge the other 3. with one day off. Today. I am taking an extra off. And going to bed early.

Ella,
Thanks for the compliment.
ME! an inspiration! Wow! Never would a thought that. :dizzy:

Lynn,
I took my pic off because I find it discerning to see my self on line.

But you are right, its nice to see the face your talking too. so… here it is back in place.
till I get a new one of Jessie.:D

I have shrunk already myself.
I used to be almost 5-2. Now I am just under the 5 ft.
I am now THE incredible shrinking woman.

That cat of your is Big!, my dog is that heavy. Wow. sure wouldn’t want her to jump on my lap.

ladyinweighting 06-19-2007 07:06 PM

Hi Theresa,

You wrote, "That cat of your is Big!, my dog is that heavy. Wow. sure wouldn’t want her to jump on my lap."

Funny story - after my leg skin cancer surgery, I needed to sit in a recliner with my leg up. My cat jumped on the leg portion of the recliner & the chair (with me in it) tilted forward! It was kind of like one of those old fashioned cartoons!

Lynn

PS - thanks for letting us see your cute face again.

ladyinweighting 06-19-2007 08:34 PM

OK all you WATP DVD ladies. I FINALLY did the 1 mile walk. After dinner, my BS was high, so I decided to walk to help lower it. I did all the steps, most of the arm movements, but did NOT use weights. That's a good workout. Last night I walked around 5 miles & did not feel as tired as I did with this DVD.

I have (some) PICTURES!!!!! Omigawd! It took us about an hour and a half to get a few that I would use!!!!!! I put one on my avatar (yay me!!!!) Now we'll see if I can add a few to my message. And a few of DH's paintings. Maybe. And one of my living room. Maybe. Then, if I succeed at this first shot, I can probably send some more some other time. :dizzy: I just noticed that practically EVERY GOLDEN GIRL has a picture of herself, and I was beginning to feel weird or something, yanno? Well, I'm going to try putting the pictures in and then quick jump over and do my entry on the challenge thread for today.

Okay. I did the attachment thing, but don't see anything in the message space. I'm going to hit "preview" and see what happens.

Ella

ellabella 06-19-2007 10:48 PM

Here are a few of DH's paintings.... The first is "Awaking in a Dream", the second is the one I brought into my office. It's called "Way of Tea". I can't tell DH that I chose a dried flower arrangement with some pink in it to pick up the pink in the picture. He hates it when people do "cute" with his art work. The last one is called "God at Noon". It's supposed to refer to prehistoric gods....

Okay. NOW I'm heading for bed. I will be sooooo wiped out in the morning!!!!

TTFN,

Ella

Ella, Great Pictures!!! Now we have a face to put with your posts!! You look just like your posts sound and that is a compliment!!

I've been busy today and finally got all done with the inside of the 5th wheel trailer. It is all shiny and ready to show if anyone answers the ad we have in the paper. Now it is time to start in on the house and get in tip top condition to show. I plan on going through each room from top to bottom. That should take off a few pounds!!! MAYBE!!

Lynn, I love the WATP's videos. I was up to 6 miles each day with wrist weights that were 1 1/2 pounds each. I really enjoy them but I know I'm going to have to start all over again with them. But I will do it.

Theresa, I really haven't got back in to any kind of "intentional" exercise yet sicne being home. It seems like we have been busy all day everyday and I haven't found a place to put it in there yet. But I just have to start back in again. I'm really going to try to take at least an hour every morning just for that and then start my day. Thats just seems the easiest for me. I just have to get a :kickbutt: to get started again.
And my Mom would never allow us to watch Peyton Place!! It was a "BAD" show.....

Well, it is late but I jsut wanted to pop in and see what was going on. I'll catch everyone tomorrow. Karen

Hi Ella,

It's SOOOO nice to see your face. And to see your dh's paintings. Thank you for the work it took to get them up there. You look VERY elegant and lovely in your pictures. Your name suits you. Your room is beautiful. Did you do it or a decorator? Your husband's paintings are lovely.

Now we need to work on Femme and Lyn and Lily and Moxie.

Lynn

lynard21 06-20-2007 08:35 AM

Ok, I'll post mine too

Great photos everyone. I'm changing my Avator to show my face as well.

Ella - love the paintings - I especially like the last one.

My DH's retirement celebration was great. i took photos for posterity. We had big huge thunder storms all afternoon and now it's nice and dry and in the 70s. Wish I was outside.

Good morning,

What lovely pics ladies.
I agree, it is nice to see a face with the name.

Ella,
I also agree with Lynn,
Your house looks so elegant. Your name does fit you.
The art work is great too. It must be wonderful to live with your
own artist.
You don’t look your weight either. Much thinner than my size.
See that’s what 6 inches in height can do for a person.

I weighed in at 160 this am. :carrot: And I still look like such a chub. ;)
enjoy your 6 inches. :D

Lyn,
You have such a pretty smile. Its nice to see it too.

we had the large storms yesterday too. lots of power outages.

nothing like trying to serve dinner to the seniors in the dark.
Thank God we had gas ovens to cook something for their dinner.

This storm brought in the Canadian Soldiers. Yuk!!!!
and Yuk again!
this bugs is also called May fly’s.
http://www.northcountrytrail.org/news/mayfly1.htm
“”Each June, like a scene from a horror film, millions of adult mayflies swarm from the lake's shallow waters and move inland for a short but spectacular shore leave. Mayflies mate in flight, after which the female flies back over the water and deposits as many as 8,000 eggs. There, her eggs sink into the sediment at the lake’s bottom. The entire process – from the time the mayfly nymph emerges from the water to molt, mate and die – takes only 24 to 72 hours.
While their annual reproduction ritual is a nuisance for locals who must scrape swarming mayflies from windshields and shovel them off porches and roadways, it is a life-affirming sign for biologists who understand the insects' important role in Lake Erie's intricate food chain.
So, for lakeshore Ohioans who think the mayfly invasion is worse this year than last, here's some advice. Take a (careful) deep breath and think of it this way: the mayflies will be gone as suddenly as they appeared, but the clean water that gave them their start will be there for you and yours to enjoy for a long time to come. “”

I had to spend 30 minutes cleaning off a path to my car this morning,
to go to curves.

Karen,
It is so nice to have you back with us.
I know you can’t wait to get back to your walks, etc.
I hate getting up to do my work outs. but I always feel
so much better the rest of the day.

Lynn
That is a rather interesting looking cat.
Some day We might get one again. We used to have them, and one day when I got very sick. We found out I was alleric to the cat.

Now days, almost 20 yrs later. They don’t seem to bother me as much??

I am so happy to hear your Numbers for you Sugar, are doing well. :)
Are you taking meds to lower it too?

Phyllis,
I am lost, or missed a post… Where is the Welcome sign to Ohio?

The housing market in Ohio must be very good if you are a buyer.
We have so many empty’s, on my street alone. and over 6 are for sale.
For a town of about 10,000. We have over 300 homes for sale.

Well,
I have spent tooo much time here. I must get some house work done.
have a sunny day ladies!
Back later
