Just remember that if you're on high blood pressure medications or have kidney problems you need talk to your doctor about how much might be too much. My mom was hospitalized about a year ago for water intoxication, because her WW leader told them not to "count" caffeinated beverages. So she was drinking 2 qts of water, 4 cups of coffee, and 2-3 cups of milk.

If you're un-medicated and healthy this isn't usually going to be a problem, but if you have any kidney issues or meds that are broken down in the kidneys, you could be susceptible.

I just wanted to clarify that I did not mean drinking water is unhealthy, just that it is indeed possible to drink too much water. Because it has always been rare, doctors and pharmacists generally don't think to tell people about the risk when patients are put on a weight loss or high blood pressure medication.

Some of you may remember just a few months ago a perfectly healthy mother of small children died trying to win her kids a Wii game system by competing in a water drinking contest. My mother's kidney specialist said he is seeing water poisoning much more commonly, even in perfectly healthy people who have never been on medications because of the popularity of diets pushing large amounts of water, and the myth that you should drink an additional glass and a half of water for every caffeinated beverage you drink.

So drink up, just think twice about drinking more than 2 quarts without talking to your doctor.
