So, I have been losing a decent amount of weight to where my clothes still fit but are looser, which I like, except for one thing: pencil skirts. I like to wear them to work and have a bunch of really cute (and expensive) ones from Loft and J. Crew that are now way too big. I have to practically hold them up to keep them from falling, and worse, is they look ridiculous. I look so silly! I can't afford to buy many new skirts and I really like the ones I have. Do any of you have tips for how to handle? Have them taken in? Belts?

Don't wear them if they don't fit. There's no point celebrating your weight loss if your clothes are too big. You can probably have them taken it at the dry cleaners, I'm not really sure how much that would cost. I'm only too happy to size out of stuff. That's been the best part of this journey and something I never made it far enough in to experience. Fitting into clothes that didn't fit for a long time and then having those clothes be too big.

Have them altered if you really love them.

Find a good seamstress/tailor, and get them altered. I've had bad experiences getting items altered at the dry cleaners (more than one). Better to pay a little more and get it done right. A good one will have you try it on, tell you what they're going to do, and have you try it on after.

I've had a number of items taken in through the years because my waist has always been proportionally smaller than my hips, and have really lucked out. Take one in to an alterations shop as a test - and make sure that you're happy with their work. I always lucked out. Ask them ways to make it a little cheaper if it seems really high - one skirt with a side zip, i just had them take in on the other side so they didn't have to mess with the zipper, always a bit more expensive. thanks, all. I know I should be excited but when you spend a lot of money on beautiful clothes only to have them not fit, it really hurts to have to part with them. I think I will have them altered.

I do this a lot with my items (mostly dresses since they are easier than jeans/pants) with my sewing machine, I totally understand about not wanting to part with something that is still beautiful and expensive. Cheaper to get it altered rather than buy a new item.
