I feel your pain. Today was supposed to be my start day, yesterday I went grocery shopping with the last of my food budget for the month. Every single prepackaged lunch meat or package of bacon (even the ones that said all natural uncured) had sugar or corn syrup in the ingredients list wether it mentioned the carbs or not. It was a bit embarrassing standing there picking up package after package and putting it back down. Finally I decided that perfect may not happen and I picked up a package of bacon and one of ham that had the least offending ingredients. By the way the grocery store that I was at sells buffalo meat and wild game and has there own real butcher, so the fact that the uncured all natural bacon had sugar in the ingredients list leads me to believe that the only bacon without sugars is right off the pig.
Anyway, the little bit of carbs in the bacon should fall into the 20 grams per day, so even if you didn't do it perfect I am sure you will still see a difference. In the Atkins book he talks about re-doing the induction phase if you didn't get the results you were looking for and to look for hidden carbs and to cut more stuff out the second time. (As I am trying very hard not to give up just because I can't do it perfect, I have decided that whatever results I get from the rest of this months groceries, it is okay and I will continue on the induction phase until I do get it right. So my 20 carbs a day may include 2 or 4 or even 6 that are from unapproved foods, but in the end it is still better that a bowl of pasta with cheese-food on it
