Today I went to the mall to buy a present and stopped in Lane Bryant. I tried on the smallest thing I could find, some size 14 jeggings (soft jeans). They were a little snug but I could have worn them out of the store, no problem. I think they are supposed to fit snugly.
Then I went to another store and tried on several pairs of size 14w jeans - they were all too big!! They were droopy! I wish they made 12w because regular sizes don't work well with my shape.
I think Lane Bryant runs small. (minor rant)
I wish someone made size 12w. (minor rant)
I haven't been a size 14 since I was a college freshman (25 years ago)! (And that's after being up to a size 24 in high school). Not to mention a size 32 from 2005-2008 (nsv!)
That is awesome!!! I know when I started to buy clothes again, I realized I actually like to shop when I don't hate how I look. It is motivating and exciting!
A size 14W is completely different then a size 14. the waist to hip ratio is changed so it gives extra room in the hips and thighs. Lane Bryant may not be running small those pants may have been a standard 14 then you went and tried on a bunch of 14Ws.
When I got my wedding dress the sales girl told me that the difference between the standard size and the W size is 1 to 2 sizes. Ive found this to ring true as I currently can squeeze in a 14w that has a little give, a size 16w is loose, a standard size 18 is slightly loose and a standard 16 fits some days
We don't get W sizes in the UK. I was having a clear out and am miffed that my sizes vary from 16 to 20.....you would think a size is a size to specific measurements. Especially within stores....nothing worse than picking up the same size in one store and the clothes fit differently.
I wish I had that paticular problem. I'll need to loose another 20 pds to fit the largest size in my closet. It had gotten where I bought these 3-4x jean dresses than fit a good 50 pd gain I've worn the last 3 yrs. I can't wait to just shop my closet. LOL!
Yep, it took me forever to go from a 16w to a regular 16. Who knew how different that W could be?! It sounds to me like you're a solid 14 regular right now, as jeggings are supposed to be tight. Of course every brand under the sun fits differently so who knows!
It it pretty awesome though to think that you should be done with Lane Bryant (and W's!) and can branch out now to the rest of the stores in the mall. They always seemed so expensive for me for the quality you got.
I haven't bought anything except bras from LB in several years. I'm a special order, 36DD, but their bras are wonderful and in a way I will be kind of sad when I go down to a 34. I get most of my clothes from Costco now and yeah I'm a straight 14 in most things. It's surreal when I have to buy size M shirts though. Looking just at my stats I am waaaay too heavy to be fitting in these sizes. My fat is very evenly distributed though and I lift weights, so I think I'm heavier than some women my size.
I'm in limbo between plus sizes and regular sizes as well. I can stil fit in to 14/16 at LB, but I avoid it when possible because it always seems overpriced. Lately I've been sticking to Old Navy, Target, and Kohl. I'm a pretty solid 16 or XL at those stores
I'm now a standard size 16, but I find that only low-waisted pants fit well because my waist measurement is still bigger than the proportions in standard sizes. Haven't tried a 14W because I am so happy to be able to shop in the standard size sections and don't want to have to go back to the overpriced polyester **** that is plus-sized clothing.
I recently discovered ewa michalak bras, which come from Poland and cost about $40 or so but are very, very pretty and well-made and comfortable, and come in a very wide range of sizes (I'm a 38dd). I'm hooked!
