I know lack of potassium or being dehydrated can cause leg cramps and I do not believe either is my problem. Tonight's was the worst one ever! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think I will call my dr tomorrow too, but was curious if anyone else suffers from these. Yes they are chronic for several weeks. Thanks chicks!
I get them often, I eat a banana every day for the potassium, I make myself walk to stop them, it is difficult but not impossible to make yourself do this and it works. Sometimes only a few steps will do it, a couple of minutes at most and they will go away.
Tonight was so bad I couldn't bear my own weight, never had that before. The muscle which runs along the outside of the ankle literally popped out and my foot started to swell. The only thing that worked was putting tremendous pressure around my ankle. Took almost 10 minutes to subside. Cat, I was just reading online about adding a calcium supplement at night. Did not know about magnesium, but will give it a try. Sadly I DO NOT like bananas, but I do eat a lot of beans and other foods rich in potassium. Thank you for responding so quickly, wish the cramping would subside this quickly lol
I don't know if this will help at all, but I have similar leg cramping (mostly at night though) and I asked the same question a while back. There might be a few tricks that might help you out here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/exer...hing-else.html
Normally when they happen I launch myself out of bed and yes I "hobble" around. Last night though was by far the worst one ever, thought momentarily that I might have a blood clot as the pain was similar. I took Cat's advice and took Calcium. I had to use a multivitamin for the magnesium. I did not have any cramps last night so I will try nightly and see how it goes. I am going to read the link from Ericann too. Thank you all for your help, it is truly appreciated.
