Hi gang. I know summers are a bit... light. Which is good! We should all be out enjoying the weather (sorry, Karencat ) But I just need a bit of a whine... Seriously. My middlekid is leaving Monday for at least six months in the states, and eldest just fluffed her exams... don't worry, I'm not reaching for the nachos yet, but just... looking for a bit of... I don't know. How are you all doing?

Magicsuan - I am sorry you are having a hard time. Kids can cause us so much stress because we want so badly for them to succeed and do well in life. Ugh, if they would just LISTEN to their mothers and do what we tell them, life would be so much easier for all. Nope, they think they need to figure it out on their own. Having a child so far away, no matter how old they are, has to be very difficult. This experience will be amazing for your middlekid, one that will be with them for a lifetime and will help them to mature and appreciate how awesome a mom they have. As for the eldest's fluffed exams, some kids just do not test well. I know neither of my kiddos do. My daughter is better because she works her but off to get good grades but my son on the other had, eh, he is still figuring it out and will probably always be a coaster. We love them no matter what because they are ours.
As I read your post and others on our board, we all have a common problem, stress eating. I am trying to find something I can do instead of reaching for the nachos. I crochet, which is relaxing and a stress reliever and does help with reaching for the junk food. Maybe there is something that you can do to help relax and relieve stress??
I wish you the best and hope things are looking up for you!

YES! She was perfectly capable of passing those exams. She just kept putting everything off till there was too much material and not enough time. Trying not to think about the enormous amount of money we have sunk into that private school...

Middlekid is settled now and staying with family, which is good; I totally trust them and this is a great stress reliever (I don't have the worry of sending her to total strangers) but I miss her positive vibe. I'm left with Prima, who puts everything off and then looks for someone/something to blame when it all goes pear-shaped, and Thirdling, who just... whines and complains non-stop, which really grates on me sometimes, maybe more than it should. She's 14, she's at that age...

The good news is, Prima appears to have at least landed a job. The bad news is, it's at the Dunkin' Donuts which is only the second in the country! I'm doomed! I bloody love donuts...

So, yes, things are looking up, I think. And I hear you on the crocheting; having something to do with your hands is a huge help. I spin and knit.

Off to check the garden for ravenous slugs. Third day of rain, here..

Okay, peeps. I'm off on Saturday, and hope to spend the vast majority enjoying the breathtaking scenery in Ireland and writing/sketching, and NOT just eat my way through Co. Cork as I tend to do on these hols. Somebody start an August thread when the time comes, please, because I may be in dire need of support when I weigh in afterward!
