Am I doing something wrong?

This is my second time around with a low carb diet. The first time around I lost 80 lbs, but over the last year, I have gained 28 lbs. I started eating the wrong things again. On December 1st, I started low carb living again. It has been seven days and I have already lost six pounds! Woohoo! The problem I am having, this time around, is that I am not feeling normal. I am not feeling sick, but I just feel, weird. I can't really explain it. Did anyone else experience these type of feelings? I don't recall feeling like this the first time around.. Also, I feel like I am always hungry. I thought the proteins would take care of this....

I am no expert on low carb eating...but I know that when I started cutting back on my processed carbs, I felt "hungry" for two weeks. Eventually it went away. But I notice I will feel hungry if I carb it up one day and then go back to healthy eating. It's like it's a drug, and I feel withdrawals. So I say stick with it. You probably aren't hungry, but your body is craving the wonderful sugar high you get from simple carbs. You are going to have to get through the withdrawals and then you will feel better.

You might want to post in the low carb forum for more informed advice. I have limited experience with truly low carb but my 2 cents are that 1) you should still eat a fair amount of veggies which provide bulk and 2) low-carb diets tend to focus on fat rather than protein for hunger control.

But again, I think you'd be better off asking about this WOE in a more targeted forum.

Definitely check out the Carb Counter forums, but I remember waaaaay back when I did Atkins that I definitely felt terrible during induction and even felt a little odd for a little while after that. I just had the impression my body was adjusting to the lower carbs (and better overall quality) of what I was eating. My entire diet prior to doing Atkins was bread and crackers and chips so it was a big adjustment.

Conngrats on your loss!

i'm doing atkins and not sure what you are eating but do know you need a healthy amount of fat it helps you feel fuller and focus on getting all your carbs from vegetables if possible. and avoid artifical sweeteners alot of people don't tolerate them well
