Hey Ashley!! Wow, that position sounds awesome! I hope it works out for you. Best of luck!!

I just had a thought.....re: feeling bloated, etc. My doctor changed my blood pressure medicine last Friday. Along with a lower dosage, he felt I did not need the diuretic (included in the pill I was taking) any longer. I'm thinking that is why I am feeling bloated....my body getting used to not having the diuretic on board. I hope it is only temporary, I don't like the way I feel today at all. I know sitting around for two days doing nothing didn't help either. I am drinking water like crazy today. Already I've had 69 oz. so far...we'll see how it goes.

SILLYCAT 02-03-2011 12:47 PM

Hey all!

I feel better - don't think i've lost anything in the past 2 weeks but getting stronger and doing more exercise and not binging!!!!

so... hopefully i'll see results!

Wow ashley - you are sooo right about mindsets and being hard to change and 115 is Fabulous fruit lady!! most important thing is to be healthy!!

did my circuit training again today - and will walk 3 miles during the day - so.. onward and upward

annie - any time your body chemistry is changed by different medications it can manifest in many ways - give it a few to see how you feel overall and if not better in a few days talk with your dr. could be just related to the change could be that you do need it..

fruitlady 02-03-2011 01:05 PM

Ashley- lots of luck if you do go for the new position! honestly, I don't think I'll be happy wishing I was 107lbs. So I think my weight will have to stay right where it is, if my body allows it. I have my don't care eating days at least one time a week, I'm not suffering one bit.

My weight stayed the same, so glad. I tried a Yoplait Chocolate whip yogurt this morning with Fat Free whipped cream, it felt like I had a fattening dessert, but it wasn't. It was good, the calories are higher for this kind of yogurt, so I had to skimp on the fruit. I'll will buy it again for those times I have a chocolate craving. Rode the bike for 32min., went 7.5mi. I planned out my meals for the day, i will have 1260 calories, if I stick to it. It's been a week since I had any junk food & I'm really craving it today. At least the sun is out, wish it was warmer so I could go out & walk.

Have a great day!

jomatho 02-03-2011 02:53 PM

Second snow day here today. Gotta get these kids back to school so I can get back on schedule and get this house cleaned!!! Excuses, excuses... Going to get my haircut today, looking forward to getting out and about.

PP - sounds like you need something to look forward to. Maybe plan a date night or a shopping trip or something. Nothing wrong with having a daily schedule though, I need more structure to my days. Somehow I get it all done, I just do as the mood moves me :D.

Mirj - funny how perception affects how temperature feels! In the spring here 40 degrees feels like a heat wave, I unroll the windows a crack in the car and everything, but in the fall, 40 degrees feels so cold, I turn the heat on on the car. Just what you are used to. I would take your 40 degree day today, it is frigid here, but it is sunny and I am trying to appreciate that. Oh, and I dont think a slug would have worked out 420 minutes since sunday!

Annie - you are probably on to something with the new BP script. Your body is trying to figure out how much water it needs. Good job getting all that water down today. I am sure whatever your weight is, you didn't eat 3500 calories x each of those pounds ABOVE what you normally eat! Right? It will all level out. There's that perception again, just because you weighed more today, you feel fat, even though your clothes still fit the same.

Ashley, you sound like you are in a better place! I am excited for your new job opportunity, that will help you out so much! Best of luck!

Sillycat, I hope you see some good results for your efforts too, I am sure you will!

Ashley777 02-03-2011 03:35 PM

Where can i get some of this, Yoplait Chocolate whip yogurt!! man they sell alot of products in the U.S that they don't sell here, even though the same company makes them, wierd. I like kraft peanut butter but could not find it in the U.S and now they even make a light one. I measured a tablespoon the other day and it was actually quite alot so I was happy to find I usually have half a tablespoon and i love that it keeps me full long. As scary as it has been I have added more fat to my diet and I feel better and my joints feel better when working out.

Silly cat way to go on the non binging that is such a goal in itself!

Annie I just saw your post from yesterday, take a deep breath and stay away from the scale for a few days!! dont let what the scale says determine what kind of a day you will have! I went on birth control before I got married and followed my plan amazingly well for a few weeks and my pants actually felt tighter I could have just died, but then my body adjusted and I lost some more.

Jomatho I am jealous of your snow day! have a good day out and about.

It is plus 4 here plus 4.... yay it was so nice on my walk at lunch!

nationalparker 02-03-2011 03:52 PM

Checking in to say HI!! Schools are closed here again and another city over closed them for tomorrow too, just out for the week. Hm. After watching drivers fishtail down the street here, I decided to work from home - finished up one project now and will get started on another. I will head out for a break, though, and hatchet more of the ice up. I need a pathway to the front door - normally not a priority at ALL - but with the pet/housesitter coming on Saturday, we need to have an access point for her to get in without killing herself.

Eating has been above normal on misc junk but have been chopping ice for about 2 hours a day and that's burning something off, I swear :) my hands are SORE, my arms/shoulders and knees are, too. (knees because sometimes I'm kneeling down to really GET to it. Will be going into the office tomorrow - got a lot done this noontime on it. Hubby went out for sand and put that down by the street so we can make it into the driveway. He's working tonight. I'll check in more then with decent catching up notes!

But before I forget - Ashley - that position sounds like it's meant for YOU. About time some good karma moved into your path! :) GOOD LUCK!

ange82much 02-03-2011 04:10 PM

Really wish i could ship some of this heat over to you snow-bounders.

We're on the longest heatwave on record at the moment and it's due to last til sunday afternoon.

The city temps don't look much but in the suburbs it's 10 degrees higher.

108F forecast again tomorrow, but it's the high temps (80+) all night that make it worse. Oh, and the humidity's going to be higher tomorrow too. 100F today, so not quite as bad...

Exercise tally for the week so far is:
Monday - 36min run
Tues - 50 mins weights class (Pump)
Wed - 34 min run then 42 min cycle class
Thur - 50 min Body Attack class (lots of jumping around - hard work!)
Fri - planned Pump (away next week so won't be able to do it then)

Don't think we're really counting exercise any more, but felt like posting the weeks progress anyway. Not as much running as normal due to temps!

And the scales say i've lost 2lb this morning, but that was from a ridiculously high starting point, so hopefully this is the 'real' number and i can work downwards from there....

The other good news about today is that DH finishes his TB medication after 6 months and doesn't have to go to the hospital 3x a week any more. Hurray!! He still has to be checked up every 6 months for the next 2 years, but is hopefully clear. And he'll be able to drink alcohol again which he's looking forward to (but i lose my chauffer)!

Thanks, Ange, for the pics! I don't know which is more gorgeous....the birds or you!!:) I love seeing images from other friends' worlds....wherever that may be.

Office was dead and I got off a little early. Went by the bank and came home and did some more exercise: 2 miles with weighted vest and 3 pound hand weights.:carrot:

Now for a healthy supper, a little housework and American Idol!!

jomatho 02-04-2011 08:01 AM

OMG, my lucky little devils got another day off today !!! I don't ever remember having more than two days off in a row when I was in school. And to top it off, they already have Monday off for a "professional development day". Ugh. So I slept in, not even close to getting my workout in, and my house is still a mess (excuses, excuses...). I do like having my kids home and under my wing though, must be a control issue ;). DH is leaving today for his 6 day trip so I am a little bummed out. I will definately get my workout in sooner than later, that will make me feel better.
Beautiful pictures Ange!
NP, boy, that ice sounds like a pain in the @ss! Hope you fly out on time!!!
Ashley, fat is good for you contrary to popular belief, just try to make sure it is good fat. Have you ever tried taking fish or krill oil for your joints? Has to be good quality, but does wonders for many things, heart, joints, even mild depression, etc. I'm sure you have heard of it or tried it. I take it when I remember.
Annie, Idol was a bit of a let down last night, I thought. Seemed short, but I wasn't giving it my full attention so maybe that was why.
Anyone have any plans for Valentines day?
Anyone watching the superbowl, and what are you eating?
Have a great on plan day chickies!

AnnieDrews 02-04-2011 09:48 AM

Hi friends! I am trying VERY HARD not to freak out. Yesterday and today my scales showed 156....that is almost a six pound gain since last Friday!! I'm hoping it is just my body adjusting to the medication change. I asked one of the docs I work with (urologist) and he agreed that I would even out, but I did call my doctor just to be sure this was normal and that I would drop the weight. Meanwhile, I plan to continue to drink my usual 64-80 oz. of water daily and add to that. I will definitely exercise this weekend although I usually take the weekends off. I just feel HUGE and even though we were allowed to wear jeans and boots to work today (weather), I wore scrubs because I felt so fat in all of my tops.:(

Did 3 Mile Boot Camp w/ resistance bands this morning. 45 minutes.

Jo-No big plans for Super Bowl unless my fiance decides to come into town to be here on Sat/Sun. Even then he may have to get home....long story...he has to get up for work at about 4 a.m....has a dog....roads still bad out his way....I'm a bit bummed I may be watching alone. At least if I do I won't be fixing all of the high calorie food I would prepare if people were coming. Still....bummed.

Hope you can fit in a workout today! Enjoy your kids being home. My younger son is out again, but he is at his Dad's for the weekend.

No big plans for Valentine's Day either. I had thought about making a pan of fudge for everyone, but maybe just buying them a small bit of chocolate might be a wiser choice for now with me battling this sudden gain.

Hoping I can dig myself out of this funk....I don't want to be grumpy all weekend.

P.S. It's snowing here again.

nationalparker 02-04-2011 10:39 AM

Annie - hang in there - you know you haven't eaten an add'l 21,000 calories to account for that, but perhaps the diuretic in the other meds was limiting the fluids your body retained and it'll take a while to get that regulated to what your body does typically?? I know it's easier said than done, though!!

Sun is out here - but still cold - hoping the sun will help melt the ice. Schools are closed again today here as well.

Having a HARD time getting back on track today - I have the "better eat it before we leave" mentality - does anyone else get that? Let's use it up. EVERYTHING. Even things that don't go bad! Argh.

Planning to walk it all off, though :)

Thanks for including the pics, Ange - to echo Annie - both YOU and the birds are gorgeous!!

Ashley777 02-04-2011 11:09 AM

Can't eat, can't shop, can't drink, what is woman suppose to do?????? Exercise and have a lot of sex?????

Ange – awesome pics all of them are gorgeous!

Jomatho – I have taken fish oil in the past and even have some at home but hate burping up the taste with it. I have tried a few different brands too. I mainly use olive oil, almonds, peanut butter, I even measure out and put some real butter on hot air popped corn. My joints are sore per say, cept if I spend time outside when it is -10 -30. I just noticed I felt better adding more fat. I was on a low fat kick years ago cause someone said it was the best way to eat and then wrote a book. What about ‘just don’t stuff your face’ as a better way to eat???? I wish I had learned all this stuff years ago then I would not have to relearn how to eat. Sometimes it just makes me feel so dumb, like good grief I don’t even know how to feed myself. Now just need to stay ON PLAN….

NP – sorry but you made me laugh at your having to eat everything before you go, sometimes I think we just need to laugh at ourselves….. not always but sometimes.

I made it through the day yesterday and then at 9 at night I ate two sausages that are already cooked in the store you just heat them 260 cals and 23 yes 23 grams of fat…. Who does that at 9 at night. I usually never buy the stuff but they were marked down and I thought the ‘men’ in my house could have a quick easy lunch… dumb they don’t need it either.
Annie – hugs for the process you are going thru with your meds and weight right now. Hope your weekend goes well!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

patchworkpenguin 02-04-2011 12:36 PM

Hubby and I have been texting each other about going out and doing something 'fun' tonight. Our problem is neither one of us can think of anything fun to do other than eating out. I was looking forward to last nights Sit and Knit all week to show off my completed socks but it was cancelled because the shopowner was sick.:( I should get Hubby to post a picture.:o

I'm eating leftover potroast {not homemade} and a can of Carrots for C week! :carrot:

Ange, thanks for posting the great pics. Nice to see you!

Annie, No freaking out! :dizzy: At least you had someone to ask what was going on!

Marie, no sports fans here. My dad who follows football isn't even planning on watching. {I think all his teams lost early:(} Hubby is having a routine colonoscopy on the 15th so nothing exiting planned for the 14th; he's going to be on a liquid diet.;)

Ashley, hang in there with the interviews etc. The new job sounds great!

AnnieDrews 02-04-2011 02:07 PM

My doctor's office called back. He wants me to go back on the diuretic and halve the dose of the blood pressure medication....:?: I assumed he would just say, "Don't worry, your body will adjust." I'll discuss it with the pharmacist, too. Just not sure I want to be dependant upon a diuretic....But hoping this 6 pounds comes off over the weekend in the meantime!

Sum38 02-04-2011 02:13 PM

Oh Annie. That is so depressing! I hate nothing more than medication weight gain.

I was on Prednisone, and it made me balloon like mad.

I hope your six pounds will be gone soon. Stay close to potty :)

GrammieX6 02-04-2011 02:19 PM

Hi - I am new to the site as well. I just came across it yesterday while looking for atkins relapse info. I had lost 50 lbs and gained 10 back since Nov. It is time to start fresh and I am hoping this site and the encourage of those that frequent the site will help me stay on task.

Sum38 02-04-2011 02:22 PM

Hi Grammie!
:wel3fc:

I am quite new here as well. I find the support and just being able to unload incredibly helpful.

Congrats on your weightloss! WOW!

KittehMomma 02-04-2011 03:07 PM

Hey, everyone. Work has been hectic, and messing up my schedule, so I missed posting yesterday, but I'm back today.

Well, after nearly a week of my weight plateauing, the scale finally moved--half a pound upward! Grrr. I know I've been getting lax on the counting and portion control, so now is the hour. I WILL count and measure and exercise. Got in great workouts yesterday and this morning. Need to have a great workout this weekend.

NP--Burn those calories!

Ashley--I'm going to adapt your words as my mantra--control my food, don't let it control me!

Fruitlady--Vent away. We're here to help each other.

angelskeep--congrats on the clown pants ;)

Sillycat--sounds like you're making progress; the scale will reflect that, if you just keep it up.

Annie--I would have thought your body would have adjusted; sorry to hear your meds are being played with again.

Ange--Yay for DH. Nice pics.

Grammie--Welcome.

Time to go. Have a great weekend.

AnnieDrews 02-04-2011 03:20 PM

Thanks, Sum, I hope I can get back to normal soon. I'm not a fan of steroids myself. Do you still have to take the prednisone?? It is one powerful medication.

Grammie-:welcome3: So glad you are here! Wow, 50 pounds....that's awesome!! Hope you can get back on track and get to goal!!

Kitteh-You go girl!! I know you can get right back at it and say buh-bye to that half pound!!:carrot: Good job on working out!

Ashley777 02-04-2011 05:17 PM

Kittie - thanks for the reminder of controlling food, which leads me to say don't allow yourself to be pushed around by a piece of pie/cake/icecream, lets have a good weekend and not allow food to be our bully!

Welcome to grammie!

Sum38 02-04-2011 05:30 PM

Annie, I was on Prednisone last year from February through October. It is the worst drug in this world! I got so many side effects.

angelskeep 02-04-2011 06:09 PM

Just checkign in quick. Still on plan with eating, exercise-not so much. Will be hiking tomorrow if the weather cooperates. Once a week is not enough though. I hope the weather improves soon! Too much stuff to do and never enough time. Nothing going on, so I'm not sure how it happened.

Everyone-have a great weekend!

Barb

ange82much 02-04-2011 06:24 PM

Sorry those pics i posted turned out so small, it took me ages to figure out how to even stick them on there!

Just back from double spin class at the gym. I wore my heart rate monitor for a change and it tells me i burned 521 calories, so that might make up for those glasses of bubbly last night (or not?!)

Barb - good work keeping to plan. The diet bit's the most important anyway. Keep checking in here!
GrammieX6 - Hello! Great effort on your 50lb loss. 10lb gain since Nov isn't too bad really (thanksgiving, christmas etc etc), you just need to get stuck back in, which is what you're doing!
Ashley - I know what you mean about not being bothered to monitor exercise etc. I'm like that with food unfortunately, i just can't be bothered to start weighing it and checking every ingredient etc.
Annie - awww, sorry you're feeling awful. At least that weight gain is just water, you know it's not fat. Isn' t it good that your doctor wants to half your blood pressure med though? I'm totally ignorant on medical stuff....
Jomatho - Bah, humbug for me regarding Valentines Day! I'd rather go out and celebrate luuurve on any other day of the year when i'm not being commercially pressed into it and financially ripped off!!! I know, bad attitude!

Hoping to go see the movie Black Swan this eve. Anyone seen that one? Is it out in US?

fruitlady 02-04-2011 07:25 PM

I have so much to do yet tonight, I have to be quick. Lost 4 oz. , rode the bike for 50min. Calories were way too high at 1807, I went to the market cause it's gonna snow tomorrow again, they had these big cookies w/ icing called a black & white cookie. It was more like a thin round cake, half chocolate icing, half white icing. The market had their label over the nutrients label, so you couldn't see it, I usually don't buy something unless I know what's in it, but it looked so good, I had too. I ate the whole cookie in the car, then I got home & checked out the nutrition online. I'm so sorry I bought it, 440 cal., 18g fat, 260mg sodium. So I blew it today, tomorrow my hubby & I are going to a pizza buffet. I'll gain lots of weight!

AnnieDrews 02-04-2011 07:57 PM

Ange-I have to agree with you on the Valentine's Day business....I love to give/receive a small gift or card, but if I'm being taken out to dinner someplace, I would much rather go on a night when there aren't so many others out.

I have not seen Black Swan but would like to. My older son saw it and said it was "messed up".:dizzy:

petra65 02-05-2011 10:00 AM

Sorry I have been MIA for a few days and I can't even blame it on snow. There has been a ton of drama at work. More than I can talk about at this point and I'm afraid there is going to be some more before this whole transition is over. All the skeletons are slowly falling out of the closet. Not my best eating. I did manage to lose 2.6 lbs at my weigh in on Wed. I'm not changing my ticker cause it now matches my WW weight. I'll just use that as my official weight.

Sorry to hear so many of you are buried in snow. I remember those days well. It has been VERY cold here. 30's during the day with wind chills in the 20's. I even had to wear my winter coat. We had a little sleet. DH hurt his knee at work so he has been on light duty this week and will be for the next couple. He is usually out in the weather so that is a nice break for him.

Welcome to the newcomers. I will try to keep up a little better this week.

Sum38 02-05-2011 11:02 AM

Wow Ange...that is a great work out!

Gongrats on your weightloss Petra; 2.6 pounds is a great amount.

Fruitlady, you are like an energizer bunny on that bike :)

I am finally feeling well. My nose is all peeling....lol I gained 1 pound during my sick days.

I am having sushi for lunch with some girlfriends (shhh...don't tell my MIL :) )

Later on husband and I will walk our doggie.

Everyone have a fab day!

angelskeep 02-05-2011 11:32 AM

Finally couldn't stand it anymore, and hopped on the scales this morning. Was pleasantly surprised to have lost 4 more lbs, esp. considering Christmas indulgences and falling off plan too often and not exercising enough. Imagine if I had stayed completely on plan. Oh well, I guess the point is to keep trying and be glad for a downward trend. Once again, the wind is supposed to start howling any minute so no hike today. Prolly not tomorrow either, but I can hope it's better weather than the forecast says. Time to finish the last coat of paint on the second door. Feels like I'm dragging my feet but my arms are still sore and my shoulders and back.

Have a great weekend.

Barb

KittehMomma 02-05-2011 11:42 AM

Good morning. Hope everyone is well this fine Saturday. Well, fine being subjective--it's dark and rainy here, but not too cold. Eh, hardly notice rain after all these years. It's when it isn't raining that people take notice.

I got called in to work for an hour or so this morning, which is a bummer, but I'm now five minutes from my gym, which is a bonus. I think I'll put in some time on the treadmill, then do some weights.

The scale says I've dropped half a pound--which brings me back to the weight I've been plateaued at for over a week. I hope I see some change for the better soon.

I saw Black Swan, and although I enjoyed it, it is very hard to categorize. I don't go around recommending it--not because it isn't good; it is beautifully acted (the lead actress, forgot her name, was brilliant) and directed and the story is compelling--but because I honestly can't say who would like it and who wouldn't. If it doesn't win some awards, I will be surprised, even with the stiff competition it is up against.

Have a great weekend everyone.

AnnieDrews 02-05-2011 12:38 PM

Hello gang!! Well, I weighed in at 2 pounds less this morning, I hope the rest comes of soon. I'm trying to pump myself up and get busy with some exercise and house cleaning. I always sleep late on Sat. and Sun. and am just now finishing my second cup of joe. Still watching muh shows on Food Network, too. But then....it's busy time!! After that I will have a bit of fun. Fun for me is cooking. Although I am by myself (fiance has a cold and if he feels better may come in tomorrow for the Super Bowl...:crossed:), I am going to make myself a good, healthy supper and try to "healthy up" a lemon cake recipe that I found. I'll post it here if it turns out good.

Sun is shining and the snow is melting here!! WOOT!

Petra-Good to see you and congrats on the loss!!!

Sum-Enjoy your time out with the girls....I wish I had friends here to do that type of thing.

Barb-I'm so glad you decided to weigh!! I think a loss is such a boost for us!! Go you!! Don't overdo on the renovations, you'll get it done just be careful.

Kitteh-Glad you are so close to the gym so you can get in a workout!:carrot: Now you've made me want to sneak to the movies and see Black Swan! I'm watching my budget very closely right now, so probably won't go, though. I'll rent it when it comes out.

Check back with ya'll later!!

AnnieDrews 02-05-2011 03:14 PM

5 mile walk today!!:carrot::carrot: 65 minutes.

I posted the following on the Walk Away The Pounds thread and would also like input from you all here...

I am taking a big risk on wasting some money here....LOL. I have been worried that my younger son (older son for that matter, too) has not been getting any physical activity in his days. I devised a wicked plan () to get him moving and possibly into exercise. I decided to order the Teen Walk (he is 14) from Walk At Home and make a bet and/or deal that he will do it at least 3 times a week for a month. I think I may sweeten the deal with a crisp $50 dollar bill as the deal sealer... What do you all think?? Older son is almost 19 and I doubt I could get him interested, but thinking younger son might just go for it if money is involved. And maybe he will feel so good he will want to continue exercising in some way.

One note: I did order the DVD. I checked Amazon to try to get the cheapest price but there were none under $59????? So I ordered it from Walk At Home where it was listed at $19.95 and then they tacked on $14.13 for shipping...:?: That is way too much for shipping, but I don't think Target or Walmart carries these....I checked online. So, it's done. We'll see if I can get him interested when it arrives.

jomatho 02-05-2011 03:46 PM

Annie, I am not sure what that entails, but I think it really depends on the kid. I bribe my kids all the time!!!! What can I say, they are motivated by money. I usually don't worry too much because they are involved in sports, but right now we are between sports due to oldest breaking collar bone in football late fall and cannot play basketball and my youngest hates all winter school sports. They do go skiing every week or two, but that is it. So this winter, they have been sitting behind the video games a lot. You will have to let me know what he thinks. They get bored easily at that age, but since it is made for teens, maybe it will keep his interest.
BTW, my son got his learners permit today. Had him drive me to the store after he got it. I told him that was a first for both of us!! He is a little shaky on the turns and stops and things, and drives too slow, and doesn't look around snow banks (they are huge right now)! :yikes: Yikes! I was trying to be calm and encouraging, but I was nervous! We have to do that every day????? We had to park waaaaay out in the parking lot because he has never parked before!!! Little bro wouldn't go with us and swears he will never drive with him

ange82much 02-05-2011 05:18 PM

Jo - it must be scary being out with a new driver, especially in the snow, but good on you for doing it and encouraging him, and good on him for being up for the challenge.

Annie - agree with Jo that it depends on the kid. Persuading anyone to exercise if they don't want to doesn't often work, so you would need to be sneaky about your motives as well as the bribery!

Kitte - i saw Black Swan last night and thought it was an absoulute cracker! But then i like quirky independant type movies much more than the mainstream stuff anyway. You're right it certainly wouldn't be for everyone. The girl next to me was horiffied and spent most of the second half with her hands covering her face!

Right, got to go and get some gardening done.

Hi all, another busy day. Did go to the Farmer's market even with freezing rain & sleet going on, road were ok. My daughter went along this time, I was glad to have her company. We are both dessert lovers though, I got her some cookies, donuts, stromboli & almond amaretto cake. I bought p.b chocolate cake & donuts for my hubby. Also got my fruit & I gave in and got a piece of banana cake, ate it when I got home. I don't even know how to figure the calories on that, it was baked in a bakery. I'm guessing I had around 2000 cal. That's two days in a row I had real high calories, it's back to the plan tomorrow. Rode the bike 31min & went 7.5mi. today also. Good Night!!

Jo-Loved reading about the drive!

Ange-Oh, to be out in the yard gardening....can't wait!!

Fruitlady-Good job getting on the bike today!! Keep riding!

Oh, I had the most awesome supper! Even though I was alone I wanted to fix something really good for myself. I found some preskewered shrimp and sprinkled on some low sodium Old Bay and grilled it on the stovetop grill. It tasted so good and smoky. I made a pan of chili/cilantro/lime jasmine rice and it was good, too. Had a giant salad along with it and was very happy.:)

I baked a cake tonight. I had seen this recipe on the cooking forum I belong to and wanted to try to lighten it up. Per serving, the original version has about 296 cal./11 g fat. My version has 248 cal. and about the same amount of fat. Not as big of a difference as I had hoped for, but I felt less guilty eating a piece of my recipe. If I could have found a replacement for the butter, I could have really brought those numbers down. I might go wild and try it with applesauce someday....we'll see. Here is the recipe (my adjustments in italics) in case anyone wants to try it. It only makes a 9x9 pan, so it won't be sitting around tempting me too long. It turned out very lemony and so tasty!!

Lemon cake-9 servings

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar (I used 1/2 cup Splenda Baking Blend)
2 eggs (I used 1/2 cup Egg Beaters)
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsps baking powder
1/2 cup milk (I used 2% milk)
zest of one lemon (2-3tsps) or more for more lemony flavor

Cream butter and sugar together, beat eggs in one at a time. Sift 1/2 flour, baking powder into the butter/sugar mixture, stir and pour in 1/4 cup of milk, stir til well blended. Repeat with last 1/2 of dry ingredients and then the rest of the milk. Stir in the zest.

Pour into a sprayed 8x8 or 9x9 cake tin, or a round cake tin. Bake for 35 minutes at 350 or until toothpick comes out clean.

1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp lemon juice

Mix together and pour over hot cake. Turn oven off and let cake sit in oven for about 10 minutes
.

Annie, I had shrimp and salad for one tonight too! Except I stir fried mine with asparagus and mushrooms. Boys wanted frozen pizza so I needed something fast and delicious. Hit the spot! I have to remember to keep shrimp on hand, they cook so fast! Thanks for the recipe, I love lemon cake. I don't know if I dare have it around. I also love orange cake. I've never made either one.

ANnie glad to hear your doing better, the shrimp sounds yummie

Jomatho - eeed new drivers, not a fun time but they will learn and they will do better. I don't envy you at al though :)

I am beginning to tire of winter usually comes about this time, could not walk yesterday as the streets were ice rinks so walked a little indoors and was discourage about it. Feel lethargic today snowing again, ate too much long winters can wear on you after a while. I just got access to the gym at work so if I cant go hiking at least I can go to the gym. Depression seems to come more often during this time of the year but at least it does pass after few days. Wish hubby would be more active and do stuff with me. He use to be an athlete so I don't understand how you can go from olympic potential to sit on the couch all day.

Good afternoon (already!) from your resident Middle Eastern over-eater and under-walker!

Since I last spoke to you all on Thusday I haven't done much about eating well. Shabbat was, well.... Shabbat. I made the chocolate tart from the cooking demonstration for dessert, and also chocolate mousse, and also Rice Krispie fudge... argh. My 21 year old daughter who lives with her father in Jerusalem came for the weekend and I totally threw out all the stops and made her all her favorite dishes. And ate them as well!

Saturday night we had another couple over for a late dinner and I made two very cheesy quiches, one cauliflower and one corn. We had leftover tart for dessert. And I've just had leftover quiche for lunch. And I didn't go to the gym this morning because I went to bed after 2 AM last night. I so need to get back on track.

We're going to a wedding tomorrow night, so I'm going to try to eat well there, no fried Moroccan cigars and none of that yummy liver in puff pastry they always serve at Israeli weddings. And I'm going to dance my tushy off. The wedding is going to be very religious, so there won't be any mixed dancing, so I can really fly (my husband hates to dance, so when he does agree to get on the dance floor with me it's always a slow sway). Religious wedding dancing is so much fun for women! The stuff we do looks a little like this:

but a lot wilder. And we're not so covered up...

Welcome Grammie! And Annie, did your meds straighten everything out?

I made a shrimp meal last week that was so yummy. The only things about shrimp that scares me, where is comes from. Asian shrimp has had such bad rap lately. Some of those fish farms are polluted. But I still keep shrimp handy all the time.

Mirj Wedding looks like so much fun!! Enjoy.

1/2 pound total loss for me from last week. My weight was up and down this week, but I think it was because I was sick. I take 1/2 pounds :)

A very busy day for us. Walking Shadow this morning, then Costco, ACT class, baseball...

Hubby actually wants to have a beer with SB -- he is NOT drinking with my during my journey, which I find very sweet -- I hate beer, so I won't even be tempted.

My liver cleanse is going well. I had a bit skin breakout, but now my skin is looking really good. My dark circles are getting less dark, and I look overall brighter, even after my illness. I feel less bloated as well. -- I don't know if it is my imagination or truly working

Everyone, have a fab SB day!
