Kathi, i have a tough time getting going in the morning and end up running at night most times. I would love to break that pattern and start in the morning -- so sorry about your son and the Army not working out...but like you said, take a breath, let your ex deal with it for now. He's a grown up - it's time for him to figure it out

ICUwishing 09-19-2010 05:47 PM

kathi, I'm with Deb. on the complicated, less-than-fairy-tale relationships. You've given so much to them ... let this be your time!

Workout 2 of Week 1 is done. We were rained out the last couple of days. This morning was wonderful - cool, dry, and smells like autumn! Went just a smidge faster since it felt really good. Lawn is mowed. Soup is ... souping. The week's breakfast casserole is under way. Laundry is clean and mostly folded. Bills ... still gotta go there. The guys are out golfing, so it's just me and bunny. And the computer. :D

Good morning Ladies!
It has finally cooled down here in Japan. We have rain which is nice and
refreshing. This summer has been a record breaker, the longest with
tempretures ove 33C, something like 2 months!

Yesterday was my daughters field day. We packed a lunch and went to cheer her on. Even though I tried to stay in the shade I got sun burnt and mild heat stroke. I had to laugh this morning when I found the sun block cream next to my computer, typical. So I am not eating, just picking at some fruit and bread but also not moving, everytime I move I feel I am going to throw up!!!!

Maddie....I think your idea of a power nap is great. My schedule is rather crazy. I am up early to see to the kids, most days I exercise then. For half the week I have work in the mornings. I work at home which helps a lot. Lunch is our main meal. Afternoons are my free time but from about 5pm I start work again. This is where things get tough and I have yet to figure things out. I am not hungry before 5 because of a big lunch but by 8pm I am starving. Most nights I finish work at 9pm and just start eating whatever I see. I think that I should have some friut cut up and readu to munch on, I always want sweets at that time!!

Deb...Glad you are feeling almost normal. Must be nice!!

By the way is anybody in the New York area? I heard about the tornadoes that hit that area!! I hope that if you or family/friends in that area that you are okay. Rather scarey.
Got to shut down the computer as there is thunder about.

Take care, have a good week!

Jackie

Hello! I am new and looking for a support group to help me lose some weight. Again. SIGH! I have been heavy for about 16 years. I diet, lose 10-20 lbs, then gain it back. Food is my main issue.

I exercise fairly regularly. Right now I am rowing and doing barre and classical stretch.

I would like to start by losing 10lbs. Then add another goal.

Thanks,
eulila

Sugar cravings

Deb, thank you so much for the advice and the recipe, and Kathi for the ditto. I know that eating the junk just makes me want more, and it's just this vicious cycle that I can't get out of. I am hoping that keeping really busy and planning my meals better will help, so I am taking more jobs (substitute teacher) so that I am not home dreaming (fantasizing) about baked goods. I have a whole lunch bag full of fruit and vegetables and a nut bar packed and waiting for tomorrow, so wish me luck!

Hang in, everybody, hope we have a successful week.

Welcome Eulila! Baby steps are the way to go : )

FF: subbing was my favorite job and I hope to finish school so I can teach sometime in the near future.

Thanks for the support/words of wisdom Deb and Becky, I put my foot down and the ugly messages have stopped. Church today with friends, small group for singles over 40 this evening. Just what I needed : ) Tomorrow is a new day! Looking up some recipes for quinoa. Just finished boiling fresh shrimp and fixing a casserole for dinner tonight and lunch for the next couple of days. Maybe I'll precook some quinoa tomorrow night to have handy for breakfast. Going to have flax flakes w/ banana in the morning. If I didn't overdo it on the caffeine and get enough sleep tonight I might get to the fitness center in the morning!

Crazy busy weekend! We went camping (have a camper on a seasonal lot on a lake) so that is really good for taking the dog for long walks. Spent an afternoon shopping with my 7 year old...who likes to walk through EVERY store and look at everything and then Sunday we spent 3 hours at a corn maze. What a blast! I didn't worry about officially exercising as I knew we would be really active...just didn't know how much!

Still on track with my eating and the funny thing is...as time goes on, I am finding it harder and harder to come up with some kind of food treat to splurge on. Meaning... I used to splurge (Baileys and coffee....chocolate something...ice cream) and now I just don't want to screw up my success with ANY treats. In the past it would take me just one treat to take me off track and then s-l-o-w-l-y I would get back on board. Now...most times I really don't miss the junk or at least the cravings/thoughts are becoming waaay more easy to deal with. Yesterday, after the corn maze, we stopped at a coffee shop and grabbed a snack. So you know what it smells like when you go in!! :^: The kids had a juice and doughnut, hubby had a couple of snackwraps and Pepsi and I just had a coffee. Smelled the kids doughnuts and I was satisfied with that. And I was really hungry.

Time to go and do my wifely duties...laundry,dishes and cleaning the house. So much fun for a Monday...where do I start? lol

KittehMomma 09-20-2010 08:10 AM

Good morning and welcome to another Monday. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was very productive, but not so good on the eating. Here's to a good start this morning.

Annie--I'm sorry for your and your DF's loss.

Deb--I hear you about the thyroid. I do well at home, but when I'm traveling, I get off track and forget to take my pills sometimes. Glad you're on top of it again.

Kathi--sorry you lost your workout buddy. Mine is traveling this week, and I'm bummed. (At least I'll get my buddy back.) Very sorry about the hassles with your DS. Sounds like tough love is what he needs, but I hope he doesn't test your resolve and escalate his behavior in an attempt to re-establish the previous status quo. Stay strong.

foodfighter--sorry to hear about the binging. I have to go without sugar for about 3 days before the cravings ease off. Those three days can be rough, and my subconscious plays all kinds of tricks to get what it wants.

Jackie--Ouch! Hope the sunburn feels better soon.

Eulila--welcome.

Got to go now and exercise. Have a great day, everyone.

P.s. my fur baby is all better now.:D (And he just brought me a rat. Yuck. What a good boy.)

lambchop 09-20-2010 08:43 AM

Going to run today and see how i feel....I think i'm back to myself...feeling much more normal. I went to the park with my son yesterday and walking around after, I felt great. The day before walking around the store adn feeling worn out shook my confidence a little, but I'm feeling "normal" again, so I'll take it and "run with it" quite literally, haaaa

Food is doing pretty well - didn't need seconds at dinner last night, but eh, sometimes you indulge...at least it was on healthy food and not junk

--------

Becky, loving to hear "you and your bunnY" that makes me smile...and yeah on your W1D2!

Jackie, glad it's finally cooling down for you - please get a lot of fluids in you today

Eulila- welcome to our group, check in often and let us know how you're doing

FF- avoid the processed sugars hon, you can do it, one day at a time...i'm right there with you on this struggle...just one day, one meal at a time - choose something good

Kathi- hope your singles gathering was fun, let us know if you made it to the fitness center

Maddie, nice job on getting in fun time activity! Corn mazes are fun, aren't they!? Sounds like you're in a good zone with food...great job!

Kitteh, hoe you have a good food week, and yeah on the active/productive weekend

AnnieDrews 09-20-2010 11:19 AM

Hello gang! Ugh, the weekends go by so quickly. Spent time with my fiance and we just kind of vegged all weekend. Too much beer, too much fatty food. Not enough water or fresh foods. I'm back into my routine this morning though and am looking forward to my crunchy green salad for lunch. I will be out there again this Saturday at the memorial service for our friend, but will come home Saturday evening as I have my sons at home next weekend.

One of my goals with my lifestyle changes was to reduce my high blood pressure and be able to get off of the med or at least reduce it. I may be getting my wish! I have felt light-headed after standing up ALOT lately, so I finally took my blood pressure. It has ranged from 109/65 to 125/73. So I don't know if it is going down or not.....I am still on the medication and would not stop unless directed by my doctor. But I am going to watch it and make an appointment if I notice any more dizziness or low readings.

I'm not even going to try to catch up on personals! I'm glad our group is posting more and has more members lately. It is encouraging to come here and read about everyone else's journey.

I am jealous of the cooler temps some of you are experiencing. It is still hot and humid here lately and just hazy and ugly outside. I want some cool, clear days to enjoy! It was absolutely gross outside yesterday.

BlueFlower 09-20-2010 04:19 PM

Oh, FoodFighter, you may have the answer: I'm going to get a job at TBell, then I'll never want it again! :high:

It was Party Central this weekend. Drove down to San Diego for a three-day farewell party. Was held in three seperate breweries, then a big beach party. I'm not even going to weigh for a few days. No binging, not much eating, but WOW... so much good beer.

Yeah, Annie, that can be dangerous... You could fall or have a spell while driving. Please take care of yourself!!

Next week is a big camping trip. My diet buddy will be with me, it's so EASY to eat junk food on a camping trip for me!

Maddie, I'm there with you on the splurge foods. I get my "free' weekend day, and I have a hard time coming up with exactly the right splurge thats bad, but not too bad! Go figure. The eating disorder continues :(

Jackie: heat stroke? I hate that feeling, done that a few times. You really have to be careful, I was sick for two days with a 'minor' one.

I tried finding just some plain lunch meat at the store this morning, and the best of it had 30% SALT. I'm going to roast a turkey tonight :D

MaddieD 09-21-2010 07:34 AM

Morning All! Welcome to the new people!

Weighed in this morning and I am seriously bummed. I had another perfect...PERFECT....week and I am only down .6 :( I know a loss is a loss...but man I was hoping for at least 1.5 or 2. So I am thinking that the previous weeks were the easy pounds to lose and now I am into the serious battle. Hopefully my body is just doing some shifting around of muscle and fat so next week I will see a good loss.

edited to add...got out of the shower and decided to weigh again (sucker for punishment I guess)...now scale is showing 209.8. Don`t know where that extra went but hey...I`ll take it! :)

KittehMomma 09-21-2010 09:00 AM

Good morning.

Quick post. Not doing well at avoiding the sugar--the cravings are winning so far. I have a stressful day today, so probably not much luck turning it around today, but tomorrow, I want to just say no to sugar.

No exercise this morning, so I hope to get some in after work.

Hope you all have a good day.

lambchop 09-21-2010 09:01 AM

Maddie, I want to share something with you so that maybe you'll relook at that .6 pounds..or 2 pounds...I know i see rewards with numbers too - but I've also learned they aren't always what they appear.

there are times I go in and get weighed...and I'm up 2 or 3 pounds, and I'm beside myself - until I see what's going on inside my body. Many times it's because I've lost 4 pounds of fat but gained 7 pounds of muscle, and while that puts me up 3 pounds on the scale - my overall body fat drops.

I've gone from 42% BMI down to 30% BMI and my weight is the same.

Also - with that gain - it means my body is now burning an extra 200 calories a day and I'm a more efficient fat burner. I've learned over the last year - the scale can be deceiving. Don't let the number dictate how you feel hon. Grab out a tape measure and keep track of body changes that way too, etc...how are your clothes feeling, how does your body feel, how much energy do you have, etc...

((hugs))

I know some people will ask - i go to an internist bi-weekly, we put little EKG like tabs on me, and my body is measured with a small current -- muscle, fat, water, etc...

MaddieD 09-21-2010 11:45 AM

Thanks Deb!!

Logically I know I am doing an awesome job...overall weight is down,my blood pressure is down, clothes are fitting looser and hubby has even said my butt is smaller. ;) Just emotionally....that bloody number still plays havoc with me! Plus with the weather getting cooler I am battling biology...my body wants to store up for the winter. Doesn't it realize it already has enough to last a nuclear winter??!! :p

Ok...pity party is over. Time to vacuum and burn more calories!
