Default How many calories does coughing burn?

I joined the forum about a week ago, but have only been reading for the most part since then. Today, I sit here, wrapped in a blanket, shivering, sniffling and miserable. I am unable to go to bed, as I dont want to disturb my husband with my coughing. Can I disown my kid for bringing this home to me?

Anyway..hi guys!! I'm kris, and have a good hour to go till the nyquil kicks in I think, so here I am. On the plus side, I have absolutely NO desire to eat.

Always the one upside of being sick... the lack of desire to eat LOL! I hope you feel better soon.

Haha, I know what you mean. I have a cold and a nasty, unrelenting cough. I keep thinking that the upside is I'm getting a good ab workout. My obliques are sore from the coughing.

On a more scientific note, a fever raises your metabolism. The hypothalamus resets your body thermostat so that your body temp can get higher. All the shivering you do is to move your body so that it will burn ATP and generate heat. It takes energy to create heat and that is how you get a raised metabolism- your body is working hard to keep a fever going.

Not a good weight loss strategy, but something I find interesting.
