Hi Ann,
Welcome to the group. You will find wonderful support and sound advice from this group. I am relatively new here and I find everyone's help invaluable. My only advice to you is not to focus on exactly how much you need to lose by that particular date in August. I find that is a set up for disappointment. Just start working on smaller goals...eating better, controlling portions, getting in activity, drinking enough water. The baby steps start you in the right direction. If you look at the big picture it can be overwhelming. At least that is how it is for me. Smaller goals seem more obtainable. I also suggest you visit here when you can, post your questions and let us help. Again, welcome. We are glad you have joined us!.

Hi, Ann -- welcome to the group!

Everyone's weight loss is different, and from what I hear, the more weight you have to lose, the quicker it comes off initially. But to me, losing 50 lbs in 5 months sounds ambitious (ie, 10 lbs per month).

Like LessOfMaur, I think you should focus on what you can do to improve your nutrition and your exercise, and weight loss will automatically come from that. You can't control how much your body chooses to lose, you can only control what you decide to eat and how much you decide to exercise. I recommend making goals based on things that you *can* control, not things that you can't. What if you only lose 40lbs for the wedding?? That is still a huge accomplishment and something to be proud of...

Good luck, Ann. Stick around and let us know how you are doing!

Welcome! I have to agree with Newleaf and Lessofmaur. Start with some small goals and go from there. Your initial success will be a boost to help you stay on track. Start with eating more healthy foods and adding exercise. Simply walking 30 minutes a day can make a big difference in how you feel and will help to boost a slow metabolism. Check in often for tips and motivation. We are all in this together!
