Anything else you would like to share with us:

Started back to they gym last month. Have been doing spinning classes 2-3 x a week, mostly 2. Have also been strength training all the general areas of the body (legs, arms, chest etc.) Have walked some, but it's so cold out, I've only done that a few times. Haven't lost anything in the last 4 weeks, infact have gained some back but I'm thinking it's muscle from lifting??? 3 weeks ago my scale said 144. Today it said 147. I figure I've got to have gained some muscle from spinning and lifting. Things are sure looking better, but I wish my scale # were going down.

  • Hi, folks! I'm stepping outside my comfort zone big time here ...

    First name: Hari.

    Geographical location: South Eastern PA.

Age: 48 (I just had a birthday about a week ago).

Marital Status: Very happily married 12+ years.

    Children/Ages: Bio-son (28)/stepdaughter (24)/stepson (22)

Occupation: Good question ... had to stop working due to health problems, now that those problems are healing and I'll be starting PT I have to come up with something new, currently unemployed with no ideas or prospects.

    Pets: Six cats, all female.

Hobbies/Interests: Camping, reading, nature, natural health, animals, alternative spirituality.

    Height: 5'9".

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: The CURRENT one? Feb. 17, 2013 but being honest, I've been on a diet or obsessing over what/how much I'm eating since I was about 13. Three and a half decades of diets, that's just sad.

Starting Weight: I'm calling it 224.

Goal Weight: I've put down 185, but honestly, anything under 200 would be awesome and under 190 is almost unimaginable.

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: The metabolism of a 48 year old woman, pain from joint problems (injuries and degenerative), dietary problems ... a weakness for vodka.

Following any specific plan: Counting calories, watching percentages of fat/protein/carbs, forcing myself to get a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio at least five times a week -- hey, some days I get over an hour a day, and hope to do twice that in time!

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I'm reaching out for support and telling other people what I weigh and will try to discuss my eating/exercise habits. Having had eating disorders in my youth there's a real part of me that wants to keep dieting of any sort a secret (yeah, I know it's weird).

My progress is SOOOOOOO slow I'm getting so frustrated and I'm realizing that one of my big mistakes over the past nearly 20 years is that I stick it out for two weeks to a month, my progress is slow and I give up. In the past I get disgusted and fall back to old habits. I'm not a sweets person, I'm not a carbs person, I'm not a junk food person or a soda person, my downfall is alcohol, I have a drink or two in the afternoon or evening and it totally destroys anything good I've done during the day. I'm not a stress eater, I'm a stress drinker!!! So keeping alcohol out of the house is one thing I need to do. I am ashamed to admit that vodka is my Doritos or chocolate chip cookie dough ...

I think this is a cool site and would love to meet others on the journey
I am also "clean and sober" and this seems like the last frontier of mountains to climb...another thing to "give up" eating mindlessly and getting unhappy with myself, in a way, another addiction
