  • Great Idea
    Kimush,
Just a quick note, since I've got to run...I really like your insights about journalling....
So why don't you put in a video tape and tape your "talk"?
I think it's a great idea! It would also allow you to actually see the weight loss progress you make. In a week you might not see that 2 lb difference, but in a month or 2 you will definetly see changes in your face. You're definitely on to something.
Have a GREAT weigh in...we're here for you awaiting the results!
    Cammie
  • I think Kimush should start a thread .... something like ... I don't really want to journal ....

I'm sure there's as many types of journals as there are dieters. Maybe some folks who need help getting started, veteran journallers, for and against, the back-slidden ...
  • Hey Everyone!

Susan you are so right! My hate of journalling goes back to public school when I didn't want to write things down that my teacher would read and grade...so I put incidential things in there like "the cat licked me alot today!" I was in grade 4 and only got a "C" because I would not write releavant things...this was the same time that I asked the priest why I had to tell him my sins (because I was embarrashed) at confession when God already knew them...and yup! got in big fat hairy trouble for that one too!

Cammie I have been playing around online, on paper, but the video thing I haven't tried...I hate pictures of myself though...but I could see it being successful! I would really be good to see some changes down the road...because right now all I do is every 2 months I take pictures (ugg) and my measurements so I have some record...and I weighed in and lost the 1.5lbs...

And Susan you will be proud to know I am doing the journalling so that I have my little record of everything I am eating and thinking and feeling...

    Well TTFN!
  • Hi girls.

Summer - I don't get on so much with all my girls being home and my daily trips to the park and pool.

Glad to say I lost half a pound this week. I started walking at the park when I take my youngest. I just walk around the playground doing big laps.

    How is everyone else doing?

I need to journal I sound like a broken record.
  • Hi guys, just a quickie here. Just got done the TM and weights and am sweating like a little piggie. Trying really hard to get the food thing under control again. Haven't quite gotten back to journaling yet -- I'm good at that until mid-afternoon then usually forget to do it. Kids come home and my brain goes flat! The scale is teetering on the brink of possibly going down so I'm must keep plugging away.

Kimush - congrats on your losses!!! WAYTO GO! Keep up the good work.

Completely OT here -- does anyone else watch the show "Jericho" (it was on Wed. 8pm on CBS)? CBS cancelled it and apparently the fans were so outraged that they started a "Nuts to CBS" campaign (the nuts are in reference to a quote in the finale) and bombarded CBS in NY and LA w/tons of nuts callling for the show to come back. Apparently the effort worked; CBS annouced on 6/6 that Jericho w/be back as a midseason replacement for 7 episodes. in 2008. For a full season pickup they need more viewers. They're suppose to re-air all the episodes this summer and stream them on their website. It's a really good show, just thought I'd pass this info along. If you're looking for a good summer something to get engrossed in, watch Jericho. Ok, I'll step down off my little soapy box now. Have a good one all!!

    Jo

P.S. Took the dog for the first time to the groomers this a.m. We're doing her the favor of getting her fur cut to try and keep her cooler in the summer. She's not real keen on other dogs but was very, very good. Until she saw the cute little bunny they keep in a cage there. Oh my, she wanted that little bunny foo-foo something fierce! Just a cryin' away! Am anxiously waiting for them to call so I can go get her. Cya!
  • Jo I'm a big fan of Jericho and was really glad to see they're bringing it back for the new season.

I was surprised they killed off Gerald McRaney's character.
  • Friday - Getting ready for the weekend
Way to go Kimush and Clydegirl!
I'm happy to hear that you've lost.
I'm down to 236 today (from 239), but I'm not going to change my profile until Monday. I have a habit of dehydrating myself during the weekend and therefore "gaining" water weight. (By then the "passing of Aunt Flow" should have occured as well.)
My goal this weekend is to keep the water going (I drank over a gallon yesterday) and take "exercise walks" as well as keeping moving with "stuff around the house" (vacuuming, cleaning, killing poison ivy, etc).
I haven't done as much exercise this week as I would have liked. I guess I really overdid it on Monday and my knee and back have really been painful since. I did some short spurts of cross trainer and I did get out and walk some today. I'm going back at things a little more slowly for now.
I've been doing "ok" keeping the carbs down. I had a pot-luck luncheon on Wednesday that was definitely not low carb, but I tried to be sensible.
I'm behind on my water drinking today. I usually have 2 qt's down by noon and I only have one down.
I have a strange goal too: I plan to NOT eat a donut after church on Sunday. (They serve coffee and donuts. The coffee is awful but the donuts are an eternal favorite of mine. I'm still trying to figure out what I can take so that I don't feel like I'm "left out" while my daughter enjoys her Sunday treat. If any one has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them!)
Please keep on me about exercising AND keeping my carbs low. I need y'all to keep a tight tab on me for a while.
    Thanks everyone,
I'll be looking for your input and hope you have a great weekend.
  • Hey all! So, is summer starting to fly by for you all? I can't believe how fast things are going. It just seems like it gets started, you think you're going to have all kinds of time and then the days just get busy and the weekends are booked and you're looking at trying to find a time to just go camping!!! I miss those times when I was a kid and summer seemed endless. Oh well!

I think part of the problem is with the kids' schedule. They have had their sports camps and we're finishing up baseball games, so that makes it super busy. It is all fun, but requires more planning than just having them ride the bus to and from school! I don't mind the fun stuff, if I could just wave my magic wand and get someone else to do the other stuff like cleaning, laundry, and yard work.

Cammie: So, are you working on your exercise plan? I have had to step back a little from mine because I got sick and some dizziness is hanging on. I am now on some medication, so hopefully it will clear out. I hate it that it seems like there is always something that happens to take you off track. It reminds me of a message one Sunday from church that spoke of how when you are trying to do the right thing, the devil will try different things to make it more difficult for you. I just don't need any more excuses not to exercise. I am plenty lazy myself and don't need any road blocks. My plan for the week is to get that back up to where it was before.

Jo: This is looking back a few posts, but I wanted to say that I liked your post where you said that you feel like a 2 year old and just want to just get the weight gone, quit thinking about calories and all. I so agree with that. I know that we all need to keep plugging away at it, but I just wish I didn't have to dwell on it all the time. It is like that one commercial where the gal has a scale chained to her leg. I feel like that a lot. I have so much to do all the time, but am always thinking about being obese, losing weight, what to eat, what not to eat.... Kind of like Willy Nelson's song "You were always on my mind". But, I'm the one who let it get like this and to let it get so far out of control. I have to be the one to get it back.

Clydegirl and Kimush: Ah yes... journaling. On my "to do" list.... (you're not alone!)

Susan: Thanks again for your positive words of wisdom. Journalling has worked for you and I appreciate your words of encouragement to all of us! You are a ray of sunshine!

Well, that's about it for now. Weigh in on Monday and I'm hoping for some good numbers! See you later!
  • I found this thread ... http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114345 ... a few of my favourite 3FC-ers are talking about being ... um ... more mature. I think you'll find it as encouraging as I did.
  • Diane, I'm sorry, I didn't respond ... posted that note and ran ... Thank you!
Just lately I'm aware that I don't really have anything to say on the boards. Nothing new is happening. Learning to maintain is more of a head game than anything else. It's nice to know that I've typed something helpful when I'm just kinda floatin'.
  • Weekend Results...
    Hey Ladies!
Just a quick update...the honest unadulturated truth about my weekend "plans."
I had planned to drink water, "keep moving" around the house, and go for exercise walks. I drank water and kept moving around the house (cleaning, laundry etc), but I didn't go for walks. No excuses, I just sat like a slug staring into space while my daughter played. (It was actually a lot of fun watching her try to trace around her foot, etc.) I'm much more rested now and walked over 40 minutes today.
I didn't find a replacement for the donuts after church...so I think I'll try Saturday evening church instead of Sunday...maybe that's the only way to get out of the habit.
Slashnl, Clydegirl, and Kimush - How's the journaling coming? I'm doing ok until dinner. I get wrapped up in the evening "to do list" and forget to schedule some quiet time for myself to just sit and journal. I'm going to work on that this week.
Slashnl - I know what you mean about having exercise set-backs. I feel like my body is 20 times older than I am. Everytime I get something fixed, something else breaks. It's like the warentee ended or something. Even with the knee - they fixed it, but it doesn't work the same as it did before... It's kinda funny. Like you, I see the "church message" and have simply said, "My God is bigger than this (insert obstacle) and I'm not letting the win!" It's been great for my personal motivation. When that wanes, I'm here searching the boards for positive messages to re-inforce me... (I like your view of the summer fun stuff... You don't think that cleaning, laundry, and yard work are fun <giggle> gee you should hear the things I've called my vacuum cleaner. Of course as soon as I get things clean, the cat pukes on the carpet again. )
SusanB - I realize you're maintaining, but your words of wisdom, compasion, and encouragement really do help. Besides, there's the motivation that comes from hearing from someone who's "done it." It's easier to pass the "office goodies" when I know I can read the words of someone who's made such a great change in her life.
Ok ladies: This week's focus for me is to make time for journaling, keep hydrated, and ease back into the DAILY exercise routine. (Maybe next week I can pick up weight lifting.)
    Talk with you tomorrow!
    Cammie
  • OK Cammie ... I'll walk everyday if you do. I did this morning ... and I did some abs this afternoon
  • Cammie I've been walking every day since last monday.

I'm making a conscious effort to do it even if it means walking around the playground while my youngest plays.

I'm getting the water in and watching what I'm eating.

Must admit I've started journaling yet.
  • Morning!
  • Waaaahhhhh, my treadmill is no more. It's done, finished, ceased to be, an ex-treadmill, it 'tis no more! The spring snapped on the back roller and busted the frame. Uggghhh!!!! I knew this was going to happen I was just hoping it would happen NOT NOW! I've been pricing them out -- egads they're freakin' expensive!!!! I did hear about a place called "Play It Again Sports" where they sell used and new (both are traded in) exercise equipment. So I'm in research mode at the moment trying to find the best TM for the least $ then will go to this store -- luckily there is one about 1/2 from me - and see what I can come up with. I'm hoping to find a better one at a reasonable price. I'm not picky about the frills -- as long as it has speed, time and distance anything else is just icing on the cake for me. But I'm looking for quality, something that will last. Hey, did you know you're suppose to lubricate the belt every 40 hrs of use? Never knew this, never did this. I wonder how mine lasted 10+ years? Oh that's right, it's only been the past few years that it's gotten real use! The silver lining is that my old TM was extremely loud and the speed adjustment was a sliding thing vs. any kind of button or digital thing. It was a pain in the butt to adjust the speed. Plus, the incline broke after it got flooded so a new TM will be quite exciting. After much time searching the web, and from some links I got on 3FC, I did find two good sites that give reviews. The one is excellent so hopefully I'll get a better one for my money this time around.

More college visits this past weekend. Went to a private college. Really nice, Julie loved it (of course!). They are in the process of redoing all the interior of the buildings. Just got done the dorms -- two roomates per room w/everything in it as far as furniture goes. All brand new desks, beds, dressers, wardrobes. You share a bathroom w/the room on the other side so it's 4 girls sharing a bathroom. Wow! And the cafeteria -- Julie literally pushed my gaping mouth shut I was so amazed at it. Flat screen tvs all over the place -- they even had one in the door of the refriderator. They have a pantry area in the cafeteria I guess where you could make yourself something. I mean this was really, really nice. Oh, and you should see the bloody fitness center they have - gorgeous!!!! A hugh rock climbing wall, lots of tm's and elipticals and weights and an indoor track and yadda, yadda, yadda. All in front of huge tinted windows. I turned to the other parents and said "yeah, it's wonderful but there's a hefty price tag for all this". It's all great but isn't college for the education more so than all the frills? Personally I think it's about 1/2 -- 1/2 classroom education and 1/2 "living on your own" education. Really doubting that we can afford a private school. (Is that bad of me to say after looking to purchase a TM for myself?) Private schools are more than twice as much than a state school. We've found lots of scholarship possibilities but the kid has to do the work every year to apply to them in order to get some.

Ok, well I've tons to do today. Exercise w/be walking to dog, cleaning the house and some weights. The scale was on the verge of going down and stupid TOM decided to show up. Murphy and his laws again! TTFN
