Attention Fashionista's! HELP with apple shape dresses!!
I need help from anyone who has more fashion sense than a cardboard box. I am not good at choosing dresses. The last dress I wore to a graduation my mother in law gave me the up down look, focusing on my gut, and I knew she was thinking I was pregnant. Then, my husbands aunt and uncle just came right out and asked if we were expecting. HOW embarrassing! I was beet red and obviously it ruined my day. Since that day (in may) I have been asked twice if I am pregnant again. The problem is I have very thin arms and legs, and my shoulders and face don't carry much weight either. The entire 35 pounds I need to lose is ALL in my stomach, and I don't carry my fat 'internally' (the hard solid looking fat). I carry it subcutaneously, and it is hangy and loose (and impossible to conceal in clothes)! I have a series of important events coming up that all require formal attire- 1) wedding Sept 2, 2) little black dress bachelorette party Sept 17, 3) wedding Oct. 1, and 4) I am a bridesmaid on Oct. 29. Obviously, I need to invest in a couple nice formal dresses. So, to those of you who are good at this, what kind of dress should I get? Everyone says empire waists, but that is the style that caused the pregnancy disaster! PLEASE HELP!
Yeah, I can see how the empire waist could lead to the preggo comments. You could maybe try a wrap dress? I think they are supposed to conceal a tummy and pull your eye across the body. If it were me, I'd probably just go somewhere that has a lot of dresses and try on tons of styles. Time consuming, but you're bound to find something that you feel awesome in!
Astrophe, that dress is super cute! I love it. I need a black dress, and I plan on wearing it to the weddings I am attending as well as the black dress party! I don't want to buy several dresses as I rarely get dolled up! I really like that A line look, but I wonder if it would look okay! I have a huge gut. I think I will go try on a ton at Dress Barn or something once it gets closer! Thanks ladies!

Plus, if you don't mind accentuating your girls, look for something with a deep V and get a good bra. (Not one that would jack your cleavage to your chin, but something with a tasteful amount of boobage.) That will definitely draw attention away from anything you want to hide.
well, i cannot post images yet, so google nicole-miller-cap-sleeve-stretch-rayon-jersey-dress,-$220 its the blue one with seeves, worn by a afroamerican girl.
well, the dress depends on wether your legs are skinny or not. because if they are, you have something to show off so, if your legs are nice, wear i aove your knees, if not, choose knee lenght.
no matter what your legs are like, i bet your bust is gorgeous. so this is also a bonus you might want to "show off" - but do it in a classy way! the top of the dress shoul have a V-line, perhaps you might want your bust accented by layering the top like in the picture. however, do not accent your bust by choosing a dress that combinates two colors (or patterns), because even though it will accent your bust, it will also accent your belly and you won't look as good as you could.
I was in a wedding a few weeks ago and i tried this one on, it was so flattering. It also comes with straps. Comes in black and a billion other colors lol.
oh and i forgot: do not choose a dress with a belt, because it will accent your belly.
sorry, but belt-dresses look good only on slim waists. it is better to avoid a belt on a dress (blouses are a different story) if your bodyshape is not hourglass, ruler or pear.
Lol, I do have plentiful boobage (but not too much) and thin legs! Cute dresses suggested so far....although I don't think I can afford $220... I do like the Nicole Miller one. I was thinking more $100 ish (I am a poor college student with 3 kids, lol). The david's bridal suggestion is gorgeous, but its tight where I am fat, if you know what I mean.....I love all the suggestions tho, keep em coming ladies! Thanks!!
you don't need to buy this particular one. but if you like it a lot, you can use it as an inspiration for your shopping or perhaps if you know someone who can sew you can ask that person to make it for you - jersey will do good as a fabric in this case.
another option is to wear a skirt and a top. i carry a lot of weight in my belly as well, and when i go out, i usually feel so much more comfortable wearing two pieces than just the one dress.
anyways, here are some examples of cute stuff. (i had way too much fun doing this... could do it way more, too!)
OMG I LOOOVVVVEEE the halter mini dress! That cut is perfect for my body, I have thin arms, shoulders, and legs...which all show, and its roomy at the waist and just adorable! BUT it only comes in a 4 or 6. My heart is breaking right now....Love that last one too, but over my budget. I am going to search google for halter mini dresses and see if I can find somewhere that carries one in a larger size. THANK YOU!
