Just stopping in to say HI. :) I'm doing okay, I'm nearly postitive about a gain next week though...maybe +2 or so. I forgot :o to do my strength training yesterday! BUT, I'm sure my upper body can use the extended recouping time...and I can do a REALLY good workout tomorrow. :D Oooh, also, I *might* be getting a puppy! It's still up in there air though...but it involves a Mini Dachshund (weiner dog!!) and my fiances new credit card. :o So, it might go though with someone from Alberta. I don't want to get *too* excited since it might not happen, but I'm emailing back and forth with the owner getting info, etc. I will also be getting my hair done in about a week! YAY! :) I'll keep you all updated on all my misc. junk going on, lol. :D Hope everyone is well! Stay OP chickies!

Melissa

P.S. I resisted Chinese food for dinner last night! :carrot: (I'm trying to space out my "treats" as much as possible...I think it's been about a month since my last Chinese dinner!)

Misti in Seattle 11-19-2006 10:58 AM

Forgot to say earlier to Nancy... don't know if you have left yet on your trip but muesli would be another good option to pack in your suitcase. It makes great porridge and you just have to pour boiling water over it. :eating2:

jillybean720 11-19-2006 10:59 AM

And now I can go back and catch up on the other one ;)

Misti--don't you LOVE super-cheap Walmart deals?! I got a toaster oven for $10 there, and it holds 4 slices of bread, came with a little pan (so I use it for things like fish fillets when I don't want to use the big oven for something so small), and it has been working fabulously for over a year.

Ammi--it sure has been slow here this weekend, but like you said, it's a good chance to catch up!

Xena--how'd you like the Gazelle (assuming you've gotten a chance to use it now)? I'm not on the Gazelle team here (I don't have one), but if I had the money, I'd get an elliptical in a heartbeat!

Heather--d@mn right you need to take your own advice and stop focusing on the scale! :p You reached NON-OBESITY...that is HUGE (no pun intended), so who cares if you're retaining a little water...you'll see it again :)

Lavandel--best of luck with your father

Zelma--sounds like quite a busy weekend with all the shopping! I like being busy...less chance of sitting around and eating out of boredom ;) I do have some work I need to do today, though, before oging back to the office tomorrow. Hopefully, I can get it done while Jeff is watching the football games (since I have absolutely no interest in them) :dizzy:

LookingForHope--wow, good luck with that work schedule! Glad to hear you've been doing so well with your calories!

Rayne--I've tried sushi before...not a fan :p But most of it is prtty low-cal since it's mostly fish and/or veggies, so you probably didn't do as badly as you thought (except maybe the crunchy shrimp if it was fried).

Katt--personally, when I was waitressing, I never counted work as exercise. I mean, you're going to burn those calories whether you "count" them or not, but I only count intentional exercise as actual exercise. While I was waitressing, I still went to the gym for 30 minutes on the elliptical each day.

Nancy--I know you probably won't see this since I'm too late, but know I'm wishing you a wonderful trip!!!

Melissa--that's great news about John's paid vacation! They say money can't buy happiness, but it sure can help to relieve a lot of stress, IMO ;) I think the recent photos I posted on the picture page here can be considered my "before" photos since I haven't really lost any weight this whole year. I also have some "before" photos of me in my underwear and tank top, but I don't think anyone needs to see those :o

Kayley--good to see you, even if just for a quick pop-in post to say hi! I think it's getting to be a hectic time for most people with the holidays and whatnot right around the corner, so I think I speak for everyone when I say we understand not being able to keep up here all the time!

Andie--that is AWESOME that you have not only met but completely demolished your monthly exercise goal! :carrot:

Val--you are too funny...finish that KFC and get back on track ;) And huge congrats on the new job!!

Chiema--wow, go you on Atkins. I couldn't do it, so I definitely have respect for those who can.

toofatforu--congrats on yet another loss! You are kickin' butt, girl!

Raven--Good luck getting back into your exercise regimen...believe me, I know how hard it can be when you've been off for a while!

Now, as for me, I'm still doing pretty well. I estimated my calories for yesterday, and even with having gone out for lunch (appetizer, entree, AND dessert), I think I stayed below 2000 calories for the day, plus I had 2 liters of water (I typically don't drink ANY water on weekends!). If I can say the same tomorrow about today, then I am in GOOD shape! Oh, and I also stayed within my calories on Friday (which is when I often go out to a Chinese take-out buffet for lunch and then get lazy and go out for dinner instead of cooking).

We went out shopping yesterday, and I got a bunch of stuff for my sister's baby shower. I really need to stop buying baby clothes or else she's going to be able to just toss out the slothes once the baby's worn them once because she'll have enough to just put brand new clothes on her every day :dizzy: Also, my sister failed to choose a diaper bag for her registry, so I got one for her and will put all the clothes and stuff (I also got a Pooh nightlight, a baby "health" kit, a bib, and a couple other random little things) in the bag for her. They are decorating the baby's room with Pooh, so I also bought a giant stuffed Winnie the Pooh, but she will have to wait fo Christmas for that because no way am I trying to fly it up to CT for Thanksgiving weekend. I also got Jackie (my sister's 6-year old step-daughter) a couple things at Border's, so my Christmas shopping is definitely closer to being completed than not.

Oh, and I bought some stuff for me, too. I got 2 pairs of boots at Payless (figures I would find them when it's NOT a BOGO sale, right? :dizzy: ) and 2 pairs of brown pants at Avenue, and I'm going to go to another Avenue today to look for a skirt that the first Avenue only had in like 2 sizes that I really liked.

Agh, and now I see a bunch of new posts appeared while I was writing this one:

Kayley--so glad those 8 pounds are gone!! Sometimes, even though we know the cause of a gain (TOM or water or whatever), it can be so frustrating, so I know it's a relief to see it gone.

Heather--haha, higher energy level...hmm...well, that was only yesterday when I got to sleep in later than during the week. During the week when I do my exercise in the morning, I fall asleep on the couch by about 6pm almost every single evening :dizzy:
I have already planned to take advantage of my parents' much larger living room while I am there over Thankgiving. I will bring my Tae Bo DVD (which I don't have enough room to do in my tiny apartment) to workout while I'm there. Even if I can't get through the full 35 minutes every time, it will be a different workout with bigger movements, so hopefully, my body will appreciate it just as much as the WATP.

Sue--oh, I know, these threads can fly! I'm lucky to have the time today to sit and catch up, but that's not an everyday luxury!

Melissa--BRAVO on resisting Chinese! That's definitely one of my MAJOR weaknesses...and never the good stuff like steamed veggies and chicken...oh no, I go for the chicken dripping in dark, heavy sauces (orange chicken, sesame chicken...)

Okay, I know this was super long, but I think I'm really all caught up now!

Xena2005 11-19-2006 11:02 AM

Good morning, good morning!!!! Here I am with my Gazelle report that Ammi and Misti are waiting so anxiously for. Thanks, girls, that really tickled me to see that you were anxious to hear from me.

I was worried that the Gazelle wouldn't really be much of a workout but boy was I wrong!!! I did 10 minutes on it yesterday and made it 11 minutes today. I was breathing hard and sweating so, yep, I definitely think it's a workout. I am really glad I bought this piece of equipment because it will be here handy and if I have time to hop on for 10 minutes I can just do it. No having to get to the gym or anything like that. My goal for now is going to be to do 10 minutes in the mornings before work and 10 minutes in the evenings while I am watching TV. Hopefully I can build up my time fairly quickly. My only complaint is that it is not quite as easy to fold up and store as I would have thought. The foot thingies swing all over and bang my in the legs. Misti, Ammi, do yours do that? And if so, have you figured out a solution?

With my Gazelle they also sent 4 of Tony Little's Gazelle workout DVD's. I haven't checked those out yet so have no idea what they are like. Anyway, that's the report. Love the exercise and I really think it will help me get in my bits and pieces of exercise while I build up to longer workouts. Yay! I am so glad Ammi told us about her Gazelle experience. Tony Little should put you on a commission! ;)

Sharon - I am so glad you got some new medication from your doctor. Hopefully once these first few days of jitters are over they will make you feel much better.

Ammi - Sounds lovely to sleep in until 11! I know how those rainy, dreary days can make you want to do nothing but sleep. I am a bit like Misti though in that I love the occasional rainy day to curl up under a blanket and read a book. Although I suppose if all it ever did was rain I'd get tired of it.

Michelle - Good to hear you made it back home safely and without a weight gain! :carrot: I can sympathize with you healing from the biopsies. I had five biopsies like that done a year or so ago and, man, do they ever sting!!!! Ouchie!! Hopefully you will get good news when you finally get your results.

Sue - I didn't realize Misti was a nickname until just now. So, Sue it shall be from here on.

jilly - I love those high energy days when you get alot done. I haven't had one lately but I vaguely remember what they are like. Oh well, I hope that exercise will help in that department.

Kayley - :carrot: :carrot: 8 pounds outta here!

wyllen - You are so wise to nip that all-or-nothing thinking in the bud. I have noticed over the years of being involved with various weightloss message boards is that seems to be one thing alot of very overweight people have in common. I am the guiltiest of the guilty in that department. So good for you deciding to be patient and kind to yourself. Oh, and in my book raking leaves counts as exercise. It's not like you decided to skip cardio and sit on the couch instead. You still worked your body yesterday.

Vilandra
- I love puppies!!! Hopefully you will get your little weiner dog! They are so cute.

That's it for me for now. I have some housework to do so I better get to it!
Take care everyone! :grouphug:

AmmiUK 11-19-2006 11:43 AM

Michelle - :cheer: so glad to hear your flight home was uneventful and that your biopsy wounds are still healing nicely. Shame that TOM had to come show his ugly face though. You have enough to deal with without that.

Great news that you didn’t gain any weight while you were away, I hope that is confirmed yet again when you weigh after TOM has gone, but in advance here’s a big :bravo: for you :cp:

Brenda - I wondered where you had disappeared to. You missed an earlier question of mine where you said you were starting a new job and I asked what happened with the other new job you started. Now I have my question answered. Oh my goodness, how do you manage doing two jobs  I think one would do me in right about now. I may have lost a good amount of weight but I still find it very difficult having a busy day just at home, or shopping.

Sue - I would never think of posts where you have no time for personals as ‘me me me’ posts. I love seeing what you write, your posts are always enjoyable to read :D

I must admit that I do enjoy some days like today, I guess it all depends what mood I am in and if I have to go out into it. I would much prefer a nice grey day, blustery with wind, but no rain. The rain could fall at night when we are all tucked up warm in our beds. Oh to live in a perfect world  I love how your friends nick named you Misti, it’s a pretty name, and by the sounds of it very apt given your penchant towards that kind of weather :D

Did you see Xena’s post? We have another convert, YAY :cheer:

Kayley - so TOM was the culprit after all, didn’t we all say that there’s no way that 8 lbs could be a ‘real’ weight gain. I am so happy that it’s gone now, and I hope the next time you weigh you will see a nice loss. 4 months is a killer amount of time to not lose when you have been trying so hard

Heather - I am glad that you made sense of my post . I often have great thoughts but getting them to come across in words isn’t always easy. I think you have the perfect attitude to what you are going through now because you are so right! We can’t think along the all or nothing line, it’s a killer when it comes to dieting. I am sure if you carry on as you are it will make it MUCH easier for when you are ready to get back OP 100%.

I know I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but my anniversary falls on that date this year, so I do have the occasion to go out for a meal. So with that in mind, and Christmas, and New Year’s Eve celebrations I will answer your question about what I plan to do being OP wise. First of all I am buying less food than I normally would. I always buy way too much and eat it just so it doesn’t go to waste. I fully intend to have a very naughty Christmas dinner, which will include roast potatoes, roast parsnips, little sausages wrapped in bacon and then the Turkey, all the normal vegetables and all of it covered in home made gravy. For the evening meal I will prepare buffet food, but along with the naughty things I will make some healthy options which will be my main fill, and I will have small treats of the other food. There will be nuts and chocolates around the place too, which I will nibble when I feel like it, but not just because they are there. So I guess I know I am going to indulge, but I also know I am not going to make a pig of myself. The same goes for the New Years Eve celebrations, it will be a buffet meal in the night, and my downfall that night will be the alcohol I drink. As for my anniversary we are going out for an Italian meal, but we are walking 20 minutes there and back so that might help work off some of the calories lol. For the whole holiday season I am going to exercise, excluding Christmas day because I will be too worn out then lol. So I have a plan, now I just have to stick to it.

Missy - now that the credit card is being brought out for buying that adorable sounding puppy, do you think your fiancé could run to paying for your meds at least for that one prescription, or aren’t you allowed to pay for them that way over there?

Sorry that you think you are going to have a gain next week. I shall keep my :crossed: that you end up really surprised and don’t end up gaining anything!

Jill - it sounds like you really are doing well with keeping on track with your food, it’s great to have that feeling of being in control isn’t it?

You are doing great with your Christmas shopping too, not to mention buying all those lovely things for your sister’s baby shower. I bet she will be thrilled with all of your purchases. I am nearly all done with my Christmas shopping now, just need one or two trips to the shops and then I am done. Most of my shopping I did online. It’s great to miss the crowds but I still love browsing the shops and seeing all the Christmas pretties on display :D

Xena - :cheer: :cp:  I am so happy that you love the Gazelle. I just knew you would. It does look so easy to use doesn’t it, so it’s no surprise that you didn’t think you were going to get much of a work out on it LOL. I am glad you proved different to yourself once you got on the thing!! You will probably get an even better work out when you use those DVDs that came with the rider because you will see ALL the exercises you can do on it so that you get an all body work out. I didn’t get those videos with mine, I just gone one that showed you how to assemble it and then the basics for using it. It was enough for me to get going though.

As for when you close the thing up, Ok this is how I do it. When I am done I stand behind it, like I am about to get on it. I close the pedals up then put my foot against the back bar on the floor, and then reach forward and pull the thing closed by grabbing either side of the computer. I push the back side bars in and then the thing is standing vertically. I store my Gazelle against a book shelf so I just lift the thing and slot it into it’s space moving as steadily as I can, that way none of the bits go flying about and hit you. I am not sure if any of that made sense, but I will say that practise makes perfect and don’t worry you won’t always get attacked by it when you are putting it away :D

Bye for now all, back later,

Hugs,

Ammi :grouphug

Vilandra485 11-19-2006 01:30 PM

Jill - My progress pics are in a tank and undies too! I agree that those ones of ours should NOT be posted, lol...TMI! :D I know what you mean about the Chinese food...I always go for the same things everytime: Sesame Chicken, Ch. Fried Rice, and Ch. Chow Mein - NOT healthly! But as once a month or so it can be a nice treat. :)

Ammi - That's the first thing I thought of with the credit card, that I could get my meds, BUT...the problem is I don't want to get them and feel I will constantly need them if I can't afford to *continually* pay each month. So I am going to try to hold off for now. Maybe my puppy will help me out - how can you look at a "weiner dog" and not smile? :D ;)

going to lose 200 11-19-2006 01:50 PM

Hey guys!

All my baking is done for today. I got 6 meat pies cooked and i made Whole Wheat crust!!!!!! OK it will NOT be the same and hubby will no doubt complain but he covers his in gravy anyhow! *L*

Ammi~ Well one job I sit on my butt all day so I don't get much exercise there. just wider! The other one is at a plus size clothing store and it is a few nights per week and weekends.

Well, I am off to decorate. I have some jazzy christmas tunes playing and the house has that "turkey" smell. All I need is a little snow and some apple cider to make it purrrfect! I managed to get all my Christmas cards finished this morning too! Man, I love a productive day!!!

Brenda

Heather 11-19-2006 05:49 PM

Brenda -- I'm jealous of your cooking and decorating time. I have been grading papers and cleaning the house all day... :( At least some of the students wrote really good papers! That helps!

BTW, great idea to bring the tae bo for Thanksgiving -- something a little different is good! Let us know how it goes!

And good job on the eating -- I know you've said before how weekends are your downfall, but you are doing it!!!! :carrot:

Xena -- Well, I am trying to nip the all or none thinking, but it isn't easy, is it?? As for the raking -- I did count it, but there was some time standing around actually and I didn't want to overcount!

glad you're liking being a Gazelle Girl!!!! Ammi should get commissions for all the ones shes selling!!

Speaking of Ammi -- what a great plan in place. Have a happy anniversary! When hubby and I went out for ours, we did indulge some, but usually I can indulge without going crazy. Feels like a good balance. I have some wine, but skip the bread. Order fish and keep the sauce light. Split dessert... that sort of thing.

I think my turkey day plan is coming together. We are having people here and cooking and given that we have little time, we are keeping it simple simple simple. Turkey breast, with gravy. Maybe some potatoes and bread, a couple of veggies (asparagus and green beans maybe?). I will definitely make a pumpkin pie and have whipped cream, but I just don't see things as being crazy. There will only be 4 of us.

The rest of the weekend is where I think I will make or break it. We will need to go to the gym on Friday, and may go out to eat once or twice (hubby's b'day is Sunday). I have to get in other workouts too, to stay on track (which is why I love these minute goals!)

But, I think it's going to be fine!

AmmiUK 11-19-2006 06:29 PM

Missy - I can understand your dilema with not wanting to get the meds on credit only to realise you do need them but still can't afford them. I guess if you did get them on credit you have a month to save to pay off the bill. Though it's no way to live is it, I wish you guys had an NHS over there like ours.

Brenda - ok, so I knew about the plus size clothes shop, I didn't know about the office job. I wonder how many cals we use typing, surely there's something lol. Maybe that's the secret to my weight loss, all the typing I do on here

Heather - it's great isn't it to know we can go out, have treats and yet still WANT to make some good choices. For me, no matter what I eat on my anniversary I feel good that I am deciding to walk there and back instead of getting a cab.

I am sure you will do great over the holidays, and I have to say that all this talk of pumpkin pie is really making me want to try some  Is it as yummy as it sounds.

I hope your hubby will have a lovely birthday and that the make or break situation ends up being a MAKE one :D

I am off to sleep now, so take care all and I will 'see' you all tomorrow. Wish me luck for my WI tomorrow!

Hugs,

Ammi :grouphug:

mechell81 11-19-2006 07:15 PM

Hey everyone-

BRENDA~Have fun getting ready for Christmas! I love decorating! And the food you are making sounds so good! I haven't had meat pie in forever.

MISTI~Thanks! Sorry to hear about your microwave! I almost had one a while back catch on fire because I was popping popcorn! Scared me to death!

JILL_thanks! I am so happy I didn't gain weight! When I mess up or don't get as much exercise in ...I pretty much can gain 5 pounds so easy!

KAYLEY~That is so great you got rid of those 8 pounds! I have a problem with holding water weight during TOM...its so annoying! I hope you will be seeing more losses soon!:)

HEATHER~Holidays are really hard food wise. I guess my plan this year is easy...its only DH and I. So we don't have to go overboard with buying all sorts of foods and extra junk we would have around for other family members. So I guess in a way I am lucky this year!

MELISSA~YAY on not eating chinesse food! I can so relate to that! And when I do eat chinese food I proably gain at least 3 pounds from all the sodium!

JILL~Sounds like you are doing good with the calories! I struggle with that a lot! The shopping sounded fun! Avenue is a great store...I nocited at least online they are having a big sale right now.

XENA~Thanks so much! I hope they do heal soon...the one my chest is really the only problem because it is bigger than a quarter!! I am sure it will just take longer to heal is all. Aw I want a gazelle! They look like you would get a really good workout from it!

AMMI~THANKS! I am so glad this week is over!! I was like what else could possibly go wrong? But the week ended very well! I am off the plane on the ground so everything is good in my book! TOM is really annoying and I should proably not weigh for a few days at least. I gain so much water weight when TOM is here. So I will just have to wait and see! Good luck at your WI!:goodluck:

OK well I finally was able to get some personals in! YAY! I am doing good today. Just trying to get some rest. I am so sick of having to change my biopsy stuff. I need to buy stock in BandAids!

I hope all of you had a great weekend! Take care and stay OP!

 Ditto! That stuff is packed with sodium...but it's sooo yummy, lol! Like I said, I'm probably having it once a month or so, it's my only "bad" restaurant food I have...the other restaurant I go to is Subway, that's it. I think I will splurdge and get Chinese food for John and I later this week...but I will watch my portions! But everytime I *do* resist it is one LESS time of eating it; every bit counts!

wezi1126 11-19-2006 09:09 PM

hi everybody.....let me start with saying a huge thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers this week. it has been totally awful. i still haven't figured out how i'm supposed to be feeling or what i'm supposed to be doing. i'm going back to work tomorrow, but i'm glad it's a short week with the holiday cuz i'm starting to wish i would have taken this week off too. i thought getting back onto my normal schedule would help, but all i feel like doing is sleeping and i'm wondering how i'm going to make it through the day. one thing i did do this weekend was take my Dad's dog for an hour and a half long walk at the park he always took her to. it made me feel really happy and calm while i was there, but now it just makes me sad to think he'll never get to do that again........

well, i need to change the subject or i'm going to start crying again....i'm scared to weigh myself this week and i might just skip it. walking the dog and the 20 minutes i got in sunday before i heard about my dad are all the exercise i got in this week (unless i can count fake smiling all week and hugging too many people). i'm upset that i was doing so well with exercise and had added minutes to my goal for this month and now i might not make it. i'm also wondering why i ate all the food people brought by when it didn't make me feel better and in fact is making me feel worse at the moment......

i'm going to start my exercise routine back up tomorrow in memory of my Dad. they haven't given a final cause of death, but think he had a heart attack. he was only 61. he was overweight-maybe 50 pounds or so, but had always been active his whole life--worked, did stuff outside in the yard and walked the dog all the time. i know he wouldn't want me to have to worry about a heart attack.

sorry if this whole post is a downer or just a bunch of rambling, but i really wanted to say something. i've been reading while we were out of town and looked forward to seeing how well everyone was doing. it was something to smile about during a horrible week. thanks again to everyone for their thoughts and i'm glad to see how great you all are still doing. welcome to anyone who has joined while i've been gone! hopefully my next post will be happier! lori

mechell81 11-19-2006 09:35 PM

MELISSA~Having the chinese food once a month sounds like a good deal. I am trying to get back into the routine of losing this weight. But I think me and DH are going to have one day a month where we eat out a meal. It just doesn't seem like you are being so deprived when you do that! :)

LORI~So glad you are back hun! So sorry you are having to go through all of this. But know any time you need to talk you can PM me. Hang in there hun. Good for you being so positive about working out. I find working out just makes me feel better in general. Again...glad you are back! You will be in my prayers! :)

Misti in Seattle 11-19-2006 09:46 PM

Another fly by post :) but just wanted to say Xena so glad you like the Gazelle! Yah it is a bit more of a workout than it looks, huh? :) As for folding it up, I see Ammi gave you a good answer. I just leave mine right out in the middle of the living room and never fold it up. :)

Oh almost forgot! I had a NEAT NSV today! One of my friends at church told me I am starting to look like a thin person!!! WOW! I am still fat of course but I can really see a difference and am starting to think of myself as a more average size... not skinny by far but not extremely fat either. Her comment really made me feel good!

Heather 11-19-2006 09:54 PM

Lori - hun, don't worry about coming here and saying what you need to say! This is what we are for! You know, you're going through a lot right now, maybe more than you know. It's okay to be in a tizzy.

You asked why you ate the food even though you didn't want it? I did that too this week. Quite a lot. Stress does that to me.

I think doing things in your dad's honor is exactly right. Doing what exercise you can sounds like a great idea.

Take care of yourself!!
