Just a quickie for Sharon - crossbows were definately available in the middle ages, but I actually use a recurve. I'd like a longbow, but the price was right for the recurve. It was free - payment for drafting wills for my friends. Hope Aiden is feeling better. Word of advice, if you need it although you probably already know, no dairy except yogurt and Pedialite if they have it there instead of water or juice. If you don't have that try a sports drink at 1/2 strength. Poor little guy! from us here!

Misti~ It is a 4 wheeler, Jeep, ride... I am working on the horse riding though.. after our barn is built I intend on buying some... That would be fun as well.

Robwen -- Welcome!!!! or welcome back!

Have we seen you over on calorie counters? It's a great place too. As for eating 1200 calories/day, I think that you can start a LOT higher than that and still see very good losses (and get all your nutrients, etc). When I started calorie counting at 280 something I began with 2000 cals/day on average. At 205 I am more like 1800 -- with a lot of exercise. I consistently lose an average of 1 1/2 pounds/week now, but it was higher when I started (closer to 2/week)

The problem with starting at 1200 is that you have nowhere to go but down, and when you weigh more, you NEED more to just survive, so you're really starving yourself. It's hard to get all the nutrients you need, and while you might lose a lot of fat (if your body doesn't slow itself down), you may also lose muscle mass too...

If you want to do this weight loss thing sensibly and healthily (is that a word?), I'd recommend upping your calories!!!

Hello All,

I am really late writing today. I had to take Beth to the orthodontist this morning, and then we went shopping, had lunch out (I was a good girl lol), came home, flaked out until tea time, then watched some TV, and now here I am ready to catch up with you all.

Thinthinker - OH NO that's dreadful that your new ER series hasn't started yet. I was so sure I could find out what's happened. Yes it ended the same here with poor Luca stuck on that bed watching Abby slip down the glass. How frustrating for the poor man. What a cliff hanger huh!!

Kayley - that is excellent news about Whirlpool, sounds like you really impressed them there. I will be so surprised if they don't offer you the job. Wouldn't it be amazing if you got an offer for all the jobs you mentioned. What a buzz that would be! :crossed: that you get the Whirlpool job though!

Sharon - I am really sorry that Aiden is unwell now, sounds like he caught Gareth's bug. I guess you are fed up of cleaning up sick. I have a friend in Birmingham and she can't stand it when her kids throw up. She can't clean it up herself because she just ends up throwing up herself. What a nightmare huh! Anyway I hope Aiden will feel better soon and that you don't end up getting the bug yourself!

Patti - WOOHOO down 30 lbs that is fantabulous :D :bravo: It's great to see those numbers go down, and you watch, now you are back on the move again you will soon be in the 200s! I hope you manage to get your exercise in despite having the workmen there.

That's great that the WW stuff will be with you soon, I bet when you are on that diet you will definitely see a faster weight loss.

Luxorbea - I am glad you are feeling better about your daughter now that you have spoken to your own doctor. :crossed: that she doesn't have another asthma attack any time soon!

Crock - thanks for the congrats, I look forward to seeing all those emoticons from you, thank you

Elaine - thanks for the congrats. There are a few of us so close to the 200s now, we are all going to be there really soon, we will have to have a virtual party :D

Misti - hope you will enjoy the shepherds pie. I wanted to put veges in mine, but I know the kids wouldn't touch it if I did, so until I am making it just for me, I just cook the veges on the side to have with it.

Lilion - I hope you will have a wonderful time at the medievil camp. It's something Daren and I would love to do. Maybe when the kids have left home we can look into what kind of things like that are available to us. The pottery and the middle eastern dance classes sound great fun, and kudos to your hubby for saying he would do a beginners dance class with you.

Thanks for the congrats on my weight loss, yep not long now until I am in the 200s, it's going to be a brilliant feeling to finally be under 300 lbs :cp:

Xena - I wouldn't want to bother with any housework, or clearing out the garage if I had some scrap book making to do. Of course that said, I can't afford the outlay for something like that, and even if I could I am useless when it comes to being arty. I can just about decorate envelopes with some rubber stamps I have. That's my limit  I am sure when you have finished your scrap book it will look amazing!

Brenda - 32, I remember that age well lol, not too sure what happened to the last 6 years, can't believe I am turning 38  What plans do you have to celebrate the day?

Thanks for the congrats on my weight loss, but if anybody inspires anybody it's you inspiring me, you have lost so much weight already, can't wait til I have all those little cheer leaders for each 10 lbs I have lost :D

Robwen - I remember your name from before, :welcome: back. You know you are doing so brilliantly having lost 33 lbs when you spend a lot of time in a wheelchair. Keep up the excellent work and I am sure you will see a lot more weight come off!

A big  to all I haven't mentioned, hope your week so far is going well. Bye for now, it's an early night for me, I am so tired.

Hugs,

Ammi :grouphug:

Another very cold morning here. We are expecting around 66F, which is going to be freezing for me I think. Hopefully it won't rain for our outing to the aquarium.

I am looking forward to going for my 4th B12 jab this afternoon. I have now gone FOUR days without a nap. That would have to be a record for me! Well, for a number of years anyway.

Kayley - I still have my fingers crossed that the Whirlpool job works out. I don't think you need any more good luck though, as it sounds as though they are using their common sense and will employ you simply because you are so good.

Sharon - I hope that Aidan is feeling better real soon. I can only imagine how heartbreaking it must be to see your children so ill. I am like Ammi's friend, and if a child is sick at school I have to get someone else to clean it up, or I will be joining them at being sick.

Robwen - Welcome back! I do remember seeing your name before. You have done very well so far with the weight loss. I think that I would agree with Wyllen that 1200 could be too low, even though you are unable to exercise. At a heavier weight I would imagine that at least 1500 would be fine, even for a sedentary lifestyle. Mind you, I don't really know the facts about calories, as I never counted counted calories. I am just going by what I have seen others say on 3FC. Are you able to do upper body exercises in the wheelchair, like using weights? Or does that pull your back too? I know when I pulled my back I could hardly move, so ANY exercise was out of the question. Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Nancy - Good to see you checking in, even though you are so busy. I must remember to just do a 'fly by' post every couple of days, even if I can't write too much. At least then people know we are doing OK. I never mean to make people worry, but I seem to have a long time between posts at times. I hope you have some spare time on your hands soon, just for YOU.

Ammi - Do you have any money left after the orthodontist visit? I have heard that they can be scary things for the parents and their wallets.
You did well to choose something healthy while you were out. I am still working on that as we don't go out that often and I always try to be home for meals. I have confidence in myself and the choices I will make, it is just VERY hard to find really healthy food while we are out.

Lilion - It sounds as though you have a wonderful week planned! My favourite activity would be the archery. I have only done it a few times, but I love it! I often say we will find a club here in the city, but we haven't done so yet. I hope you have a pretty good three days leading up to your week away, and that you aren't too rushed off your feet. You don't want to be exhausted for the start of your break.

Annie - You are doing a fantastic job with your exercise! You seem truly committed to it now and I don't think you have had a break for a while. It feels good once it is just an everyday part of your lifestyle doesn't it? I just don't feel right if I don't get to exercise each day. I had allowed myself a 'rest' day once a week for a while, but that was before I cut down to just once a day. I find it easy enough to exercise once a day EVERY day. It was the afternoon workout that I was finding very difficult to get in at the end of a working day.

Patti - You are as good as Annie. 70 mins a day is fantastic! I kinda wish I was still doing that, as maybe then I could move the last few pounds, but I know that I was overdoing things with that much AND work, so I'll just stick to what I'm doing and see how things work out. I hope the change to your routine with the workmen around won't mess you around too much.

Brenda - Your 'stars' sound gorgeous. I love your theme too! I truly hope that your relay is an amazing success. Do the adults have a 'uniform' too, or just the mascots?

Xena - I'm glad I'm not the only one with a holiday scrapbook still waiting to be finished. I have some things in the one of our trip to the US last Sept/Oct, but I haven't actually done anything to make it look 'flash'. I've never done scrapbooking before, so don't really have any brilliant ideas on what to do. Maybe I should do a course.
I hope you had a lovely relaxing time watching your car being detailed. I could handle that 'job' too... the watching part, not the detailing part.

Crock - Your 'Powder Puff Ride' sounds like a wonderful idea to me. Having the men do all the work, while the women get to rest sounds delightful. Mind you, I can't really complain, as hubby does his fair share around the house, but it still sounds like a great setup. Is this an annual thing, or is this the first one? I'm not sure if you mentioned that.

Luxorbea - I'm SO glad your doctor could ease your mind about your daughter's asthma. I have seen some kids at school with asthma and the most scary situations are when they don't have the control of things themselves. They tend to get worse because they panic about being able to get the ventolin puffer soon enough. The best ones are those who have control of the puffer and know that it is on hand when they need it. I can't remember if you said how old your daughter is, but if she needs ventolin, I hope that she is able to use it herself as soon as possible. It truly does make the world of difference to their stress levels.

Well, I think I had better finish off there. I've snuck this in before work and I got a little carried away. Still have to do the dishes, get my 'face' on and then walk to work.

I hope you all have a wonderful night/day.

Take care,

Zelma

Robwen -- I had somehow not read your post carefully and missed your comment about being in and out of the wheelchair. Zelma may be right that 2000 calories or such is too much for you. I would suggest what Aphil (moderator on another board) would probably say -- try a higher limit -- maybe 1700 or so, and see what happens. If you don't lose, drop it by 100 and try again...

Zelma -- Sounds like you're getting your energy back -- YAY!!!

Your comments about asthma rang true from my experience. I think part of asthma is psychological -- knowing I had my inhaler growing up made a HUGE difference. Now I don't really need it...
