WELCOME !!!!!!
This thread is a sub-set of the 300+ thread.
This group is for those dealing with the challenges of having a significant amount of weight to lose and being fit which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in.
Well Thin, you beat me. I just read Ruth's post, saw the numbers and went looking for a neat picture to use to start a new thread, and low & behold, I was too late. I guess that's lifee nothing really to say, just got back from church and waiting to be picked up to go to my niece's gym meet. Just killing time.
Howdy doody, everybody! I can't believe it's been over a month since I started an Old Hen's thread. Geez. I'm lazy and like to copy/paste instead of typing over again and had to go back to February 5th to find my last one.
Today is Nascar Sunday around here. That means Honey will be in the recliner all day. But.................it also means I get a FREE day! WooHoo! There are perks to Nascar season!!!!
I have pretty much done nothing so far. Went out to breakfast with friends. We try to do that each weekend. I tried to fix some of my newest eBay mess this morning and THINK I may have figured it out.
I have a drugstore to do later this afternoon and then I have to do a bookstore later this evening. I got a call the other day from a guy that I do loss prevention jobs for. It was so cute, he called and asked for me by name and I said "you got her, Jim, how ya doing?" He's like, "how did you know it was me?" I said, "you're the only sweet thang in North Carolina that I talk to anymore. I'd know that accent anywhere." It was pretty funny, not in the retelling of it, I'm sure, but it was pretty funny when it happened! I digress...........
Anyway, it was so nice to see a few of you come out of the woodwork on a weekend. Very impressive!!!
2cute: Hey, no problem, that's what friends are for! I really liked all of your "skinny people sayings". You know the other thing I notice about skinny people? They play with their food. If you watch them, they spend more time moving food from place to place on their plates with their forks. It may be making little piles, it may be smoothing out little piles. It may be separating a small bite's worth from the rest or pushing it back together. Anyway, it makes me NUTTS. I just want to say "EAT IT ALREADY!!!" Maybe that's why they're skinny. They never eat, they just play with it.
Lesley: I'm thinking we probably weren't up where you are when we visited England. We sang in Grange over Sands and Beauness (sp?). We stayed at the Newby Bridge Hotel, not far from Lake Windemere. As a matter of fact, we walked the hills to the top several times to overlook Lake Windemere in the fog as the sun came up. We travelled to Edinburough, Scotland for a day and toured there, but didn't sing. Our bus took us through Locke Ness. Englad has some of the most picturesque countryside I've ever seen. * God bless your Great Aunt Betty!!! Gotta love 'em!!!
Lilion: I hear ya on the projects. And I don't know if you're like me or not, but I find that the more projects I have started, the less motivated I am to finish everything....probably because I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start. It's a HUGE vicious circle. I'm thinking you probably need to unbury your sewing room pretty quick though as I'm sure you'll be wanting to make more costumes as the weather gets nicer for all of your fairs. Good luck with that. Let me know how it goes, ok?
Ruth: Ok, girl, fresh thread. It's all yours. Yes, I did see that you and Barb had posted after that one thread ended. I didn't notice it when I was going back to do replies the other day. But still, Wednesday to Sunday is a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG time between posts for you!!! Sorry the kids aren't able to work things out. It's so sad. Will your daughter be moving in with you?
BarbG: Sorry I snuck in on you. I would have let you start the thread with a pretty graphic if I'd have known.
Ok, girls, I think I should probably try and do something productive today. Honey leaves for Mexico again a week from tomorrow and he'll be gone all week. My best friend is having a hysterectomy on the 21st so it will be a good week for Honey to be gone as I'll be spending my days at the hospital. I guess that means I should REALLY concentrate on getting something done at home THIS week, eh? Well, I'll let ya know how that goes......
I've been lurking here long enough, and decided today was the day to join in. You all have been keeping me chuckling for a couple weeks!
I'm a part-time bookkeeper, mom to 3 grown children, and grandma (me? really??) to a nearly 3 month old boy. I have an 8 year old pug (Raymond--everybody loves him!) and two old kitties, Spike, 15 and Albert, 13.
Any other Cleveland sports fans here? I'm really looking forward to the baseball season starting in just a couple weeks.
I've got a long road to travel, and I think with your help by keeping tabs on me, I will keep myself more accountable for my actions!
I haven't dropped off the face of the earth - just been very busy with a 16th birthday (Bethany's) and two additions to the family, and my diet .. err ... healthy eating plan has been nonexistent. Feeling a bit like a black hole really.
Anyway here is a couple of pictures of the two new arrivals. The black and white one (Alistair) belongs to my daughter, and she is taking him with her when she moves out (probably next year) to go to uni. The other one is Pumpkin, and is my baby - and will be for the next 15 or so years. She's a softie.
Wow its seems like forever since I was last here! Sorry...but the weather here has been gorgeous and I have been spending more time outside with the little dude! I bought him a pint sized baseball glove and ball. I also signed Jaime up for obedience lessons. We started that last Friday night. My little angel was the best behaved hound there! Everyone just loved her! If she would just stop jumping on people when they come in my house she would be perfect! She doesn't jump on people in public! Anyway, the instructor used her as an example and she sat for her and when she went to give her a little treat she wouldn't take it but put her paw in her hand instead. She was like how sweet is that you precious girl!! My pup made me proud! I actually had a good time. Sad huh? My only night out each week!
I havent had the chance to read to catch up so I am going to try and get back here soon and keep up~
GOsh...I just babbled away there again now didn't I? Ok gotta get stuff ready for work tomorrow. I'll talk at ya all later. Have a great night!
It's Sunday night and it's been a busy day. I started cleaning house and then a friend called and said the entire state was pretty much under tornado watches and that golf-ball size hail had been falling in KC - (Terri You Okay?) We decided we better clean the garage so we could actually get both cars in - in short, we worked on house cleaning from noon to about six, then had dinner then I promised we'd play D&D with the boy and that brought us to now! Still, house is clean and garage has two cars in it so the day wasn't a total loss. I didn't get to the office like I planned, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
It's not raining, but the lights keep flickering, so I better get off here while I have the chance. Night all!
hi all. Just checking in before the start of a new week. Spent the weekend hiding in the air conditioning of the motel - isn't THAT weird for March? But it was 88 out today, or so I'm told, and after the sub-zero temps we were in not so long ago, those temps are just oppressive. I mean that literally well over 100 degrees difference from -18 to +88!
Barbara, sorry I haven't checked in with you before now. Hubby was hogging the desk, and I've been spending most of my time running the puppy up & down the stairs for don't-mess-in-the-motel potty breaks. On my short list of good behaviors this weekend is always using the stairs instead of the elevator even carrying that fat puppy.
Happy Nascar Sunday, Thin, and I hope you had a good time at the bookstore. Everytime I walk into a Borders or Barnes & Noble, I could just spend the whole day. I wanted to pick up a specific book one once & Bill drove me there... and then said he'd wait in the car! Like, how soon was he expecting me back??? I think I kept it to 30-45 minutes, but only cuz the dog was waiting in the car with him.
MTM - Howdy and WELCOME!!! I live in Clinton, outside of Akron. I drive a truck and am not home enough to be a big sports fan, and I'm a little more into football, but I'll try & root harder for the Indians this year. You'll get along great with Wyllenn - she's a pug lover too! Me, I have a collie mix and a new Dachshund pup. A friend who lives with us & takes care of the place while we're gone has a sheltie & a heeler/lab mix and two cats, so we have a full house when we're home.
Leanne, Alister and Pumpkin are aDORable! Once we get a farm and have more room I'd love to have a couple more cats, too.
Hi Michelle. Sounds like you're having fun with all your babies! It had to be fun to have Jaime be the star of the obedience class. Today as I left the motel room to take the dogs out a big guy across the hall started out of his room at the same time. Max scared the ba-geebers out of him and I called him right back in the room and told the fella to go ahead. When the coast was clear I took the boys out, carrying Simon as always. When we got to the foot of the stairs, guess who comes around the corner and gets startled all over again. Yup, same big guy went straight up! Max was on heal and I just stepped back and told him to get back and sit, and when he slid back down the wall from the ceiling the guy was all over thanking me for training my dog so well. He even paused long enough to ask what kinid of dog it was. It makes you feel really good to have someone say something like that about your dog.
Hey Judge, I hope you're surviving the weather unscathed. And Terri, too. I've been watching the weather, as usual, and it looks like some really bad patches all through both your areas. Do we have other members in that neighborhood?? Hope everyone is safe!!!
No way I'll make the Easter goal I made. I'm just trying not to blow the whole deal right now. At least I didn't go for any pizza, but not all my choices were good ones. And at least I did take the stairs (thank goodness for puppy potty breaks.)
Well, like Scarlet says, "Tomorrow is another day."
Hello ladies, sorry about not getting back here yesterday. I have been like a dog chasing his tail, going in circles. Maybe things will settle down now, I hope!
I have had some off and on days with the program, but I am back where I need to be today
Now to get down to business.
Thin,, Thanks for thinking of me. No, my daughter and children will not be living with me. She has a very good position with her firm, so she will stay with that. I don't know if my nerves would take having two young children all the time. It is fine when they visit for the weekend, but anything longer and granny is ready to head for the hills. Their life would be in danger if they called me granny,
Lilion thanks for remembering! I don't often skip more than a day posting, and then it is only because I get lazy! LOL! I was glad to see that you are alright. The weather out your way was scarey! We had some strange weather last week and are due for some more today. There was a sudden downburst of wind that shook my whole house, scared me silly! It was over as fast as it came though.
Terri, I join Lilion in the hopes that you are ok. Come and let us know.
Barb, I won't even ask how work is, you poor thing. You really got out of the frying pan into the fire didn't you? I think it may be better to work for someone else though. There is just too much paper work to owning your own business now. I am glad I don't have that headache any more.
Leanne, I am well aquianted with that black hole! I am off and on program so much I make my own head swim. What I say to myself sometimes is not printable! Come on , we can do this and do it better than we think we can. Just a matter of doing it.
Valerie, Are you still stuck in that truck? I thought you were going to be home for a few days. When will that happen? Loved the story about the guy in the motel. I would probably have climbed the wall if your dog is big. This is not so funny though, cause I was attacked by a part pit bull that belonged to a friend. I was lucky that I could get the door open and get away from her before she clamped down on my leg good. Ouchie! Had to go to the ER.
Charlotte, I think you will like it here.
2cute and Michelle, Hello!
I know there was another newbie on the other post that I should welcome, but I don't remember your name Sorry! Welcome anyway I will get to all of you sooner or later. If I missed anyone this morning, please forgive me. I am so far behind now! to all of you and throw in some That is all folks! Ruth
Wow, what a weather day yesterday. KC was fortunately (but unfortunately for others) was in between storms going to the north and storms going to the south. We got rain and hail but nothing damaging. Not really that much rain either. Today it is blustery and cold! Spring already!
Yesterday, DH and I pretty much did a lot of nothing. Neither one of us felt very great. We had a little incident with his walker on Saturday night. We had gone to a Casino night with the neighbors and her parents. It was to raise money for kids to go to Europe. We took DH's walker that has big wheels and a place to sit so we use it as a wheelchair when he has to walk a long distance. Everything was just great until I wheeled him into the little area for handicapped access at the curb and had downhill momentum going. There was a large seam that stopped the walker and caused it to just fold up. Dumped him backwards and jerked me forward. As I was being jerked into the air, I could see him falling and hitting his head on the pavement. I managed to clear him and the walker and landed on both elbows, knee and hip. Thankfully there were men there to help get him up because he was still on the seat of the walker and no way could he have gotten out without being brought straight upward and forward. Fortunately, there were people there that are paramedics so they checked him out. He has a sore spot on his head and is stiff and sore. One elbow hurts and I think I might have chipped a bone off because something was grinding and then made a louder noise and then nothing. I felt horrible. It all happened so fast and I couldn't stop it. I was so upset that I did that to him that I was just about near hysteria. We're both still going to be sore for a day or two.
No showings on the house this weekend. So I wouldn't even do my normal upkeep. I guess just daring someone to want to come when its not at its best.
I have to do go some vacumming and pickup now because I won't be home tonight. This is the last class for Equine Academy.
Did I tell you how absolutely wonderful the new horse baby is? OMG, he is so darn cute and friendly. He loves to be rubbed under the chin and have this butt scratched. Then he bucks and runs away - which is cute when he's four days old and not when he's big! His name is Coal. Now we're waiting on four others that are in the barn.
Yesterday was a very emotional day, and I felt so very much for my sister and my niece. She is 18 years old and a senior in high school. All her life (13 years to be exact) has been tied up into gymnastics. She goes to an alternative school so that she can be at gym and practice for 6 hours a day. She has been counting on a athletic scholorship and going on to comptete in gymnastics for a college team. In order to qualify for the scholarships she had to place in the state meet and then advance to at least the regionals, preferably the nationals.
Yesterday was her state meet, and she fell short of the score that was needed to advance. All her work, effort and dreams shot down in a single afternoon.
After thee meet we went to eat at a steak house that has absolutely the best frien onion rings in the state, and awsome loaded baked potatos, but what did I get to eat? A salad. Very good, very filling, and best of all was the good feeling I had leaving knowing I had stayed on program.
Well, I've got to leave now if I make it to exerecise!!!
Terri: Glad you didn't blow away! We were in the basement with the tornado sirens going off until close to midnight, but the storm went right over top of us. We got a bit of rain and wind, but didn't even get the hail, although I heard some parts of town did. I'm beat, but my son is SO TIRED! We'd put him to bed on the couch in our office, but he didn't really sleep. I'm SO SORRY to hear about your and your husband's accident! Don't you blame yourself! I caught that "I was so upset that I did that to him..." It wasn't your fault that there was a bad place in the pavement. I'm glad you both escaped without breaking anything - or did you? You seemed to think something broke - did it get better?
Barbara: How heartbreaking for that poor girl! Athletics can be so hard on them! But Bravo for you for turning down the fattening yummies in favor of salad! Good for you!
Ruth: Come-on now, you stay OP with me! I've done okay this week...(measured from Wednesday to Tuesday)...gotten some exercise, used only 11 of my 35 flex points. I have hopes for a bit of a loss come Wed. WI!
Valerie: I bet you did get your exercise with that puppy! I don't know how well your dog is doing, but we took Mac and Suzie out every 30 minutes to an hour when we were housebreaking! Not that we don't still have accidents! It's funny, I didn't even know so many hotels took dogs until last year when we had our spaniel who got injured while we were camping and we couldn't have her out in the dirt any more! I know the puppy is a doxie...what's the other one?
Michelle: What kind of puppy do you have? We have the WORST problem with the jumping up! Boston terriers...and terriers in general...are just so full of energy and excitability that jumping up on people is "their thing". It's really, really hard to break them...but we're working on it. We actually enrolled in a full year of obedience school. Did two rounds of puppy kindergarten and just started level 2 - more advanced. So far so good. Have fun out in the sun with the "kids".
Leanne: Awww! I love kitties! We have one too, although bless her little heart, Boo is a bit stressed these past few months! The first command we taught was "NO CAT!" Works sometimes. Poor kitty.
Charlotte: The ladies here are wonderful, supportive and very nice to chit-chat with! I hope you feel right at home with us!
Thin: Well, didn't get any major projects done this weekend...but the garage got cleaned to the point of getting the cars in. Amazing what approaching tornados will do for your motivation! Today, I intend to be productive at work! At least kind of.
Speaking of which...it's that time again. Must go dispense some justice. (Or something close enough for Government work! ) Hope you all have a happy, healthy OP day!
Lilion--glad the storm passed over you--I knew you were from MO and hoped that everything passed you by. One of my dreams is to get my garage cleaned out to the point of getting my van in. Congrats on that!!
Terri--I hope you and your dh are feeling better today--I know how something like his walker can get away from you easily, and then to run into that bump!! Are you going to have yourself checked out today? Don't blame yourself for that accident--that was totally out of your control.
Barbara--How sad for your niece. Isn't it possible she could still get a scholarship for her gymnastics? Poor thing.
Valerie--I'm a huge Browns fan, too--well, actually any of the Cleveland sports teams. I'm hoping the Cavs haven't blown a play-off spot. That would not be good for keeping LeBron here. Fingers crossed! Good luck with your pup!
It's so gorgeous here right now--68 degrees and sunny. I have my window wide open and Spike is sunning himself, but the storms are closing in. Tomorrow our high is to be 37 and snow every day the rest of the week. Yuck.
Time to get on my bike--trying to beat my 20 minute mark! Then to the grocery store and work for a few hours.
Hi everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. DS got home from his church youth group trip to Tennessee yesterday. He said they all had a great time. I was happy to hear that. This was his first time as a counselor.
Welcome to MTM. These ladies are very inspiring. I know you will be happy here.
Barbara, I feel so badly for your niece. Is there no way she can continue with her dream? It seems terrible that her future hinges on one single afternoon. Everyone has bad days occasionally.
Terri, I am so sorry you and your husband were hurt. I understand how horrible you must be feeling but I am sure he understands that it was not intentional. So glad that there were people there to help the both of you. I hope you both are feeling better quickly!
Thinthinker, what a wonderful friend you are to plan your next few weeks around your friend. I hope she has a few problems as possible from the operation and I am sure she will find great comfort in your company.
Valerie, I am a Nascar widow as well. I hope you enjoyed your free day!
Leanne, what cute kittens! I have 4 dogs. All but one are rescues.
Lilion, motivation is a great thing, isn't it? Even with the threat of a tornado though I don't think we could get both cars inside the garage! Our garage is in horrible shape. Everything has a place and nothing it in theirs. Glad you weathered the storm. It sounds scary.
I drove DS to work this morning at the mall and he and I walked 2 laps around the lower level together. I then walked another lap alone. 3 laps around the lower level equals 1.92 miles. That is my farthest distance since I began walking again so I am pleased. It took me 45 minutes though so I wouldn't call it a brisk walk but at least I am moving.
I plan to do some cleaning today. I need to put the things I got in the after Christmas sales up into the attic or under the bed in the guest room. They are taking up way too much space in the guest room closet. But one a good note, most of my Christmas shopping is done for next year. I think we will have an easy dinner of a great big salad with sliced turkey. I will walk again with DH this evening as we didn't walk yesterday at all. The race, you know.
Been gone visiting my friend. Pretty much stayed on program until today. Overate today. Stress of being home I guess. WI tomorrow, hope i am not holding water as my salt intake has been much higher than usual this week. Lots of Wendy's chili.
