Ok I am back...again

  • Hey everyone,
    So I became a member of this site... went on my diet and was doing well when i went over board one night drinking ...and things got outta hand for awhile...I am a very emotional person and sometimes my emotions get the very best of me!! I was down for awhile...and sorta went off my diet...and now im back to try again.

    I know this is something I want and need and that I have to do for myself. Also I want to be heathier and a little thinner when i go to key west in november for my brothers wedding.

    I know that this time i gotta do something different because basicly 800 calories a day wasn't cutting it....i was too hungry.

    So if anyone has any advice I am totally open

  • 800 calories a day? No wonder you couldn't stay on plan. That is way too low for someone over 300 pounds. You need to eat more to fuel your body and lose weight safely while maintaining your muscles and other tissues. You need to find something you can live with - adequate calories and a plan that satisfies you. I am currently averaging 2000 calories a day and it is totally doable. Have you tried any of the calorie calculators like in Fitday? They aren’t totally accurate, but should help get you a better picture.

  • Good Lord, how the **** did you do 800 calories a day? I'd fall off the wagon too, so don't feel bad! Eat often, but eat little meals. Also, cheack out this link:

  • So glad you've come back!!! Definately increase your calories!!! If you are looking for a more "plan-like" diet...although, all diets are plans...contradicting myself again...should I say if you are looking for a low-carb, but YUMMY diet, go for The South Beach diet! I've lost 40 pounds since December 12th!! I wish you luck!!! And back again!
  • Christina -- Welcome back! And yes, 800 calories is too hard, and probably not healthy. I also calorie count, and you can probably easily start at 2000 calories AND lose weight. Exercise is also important, and I would invite you to join our 300+ exercise thread. It's easy -- we set goals for MINUTES per month, so anyone can join!
  • Another vote here for South Beach, I've lost 14 pounds in 8 days so far this time around. There is so much great information about SBD on this site, I suggest you check out the SBD forum, read the food lists and the FAQ posts and see if this program might work for you
  • Welcome Back! I have to agree that 800 calories is way to low for anyone- especially anyone in our weight range. I had an appointment with a dietician yesterday and her recomendations for me (just over 300 pounds, goal of 180ish to start) was to aim for 1700 calories per day, with 66-83 grams of protein per day. Because of my medical problems, I actually have problems eating enough (long story), but she recomended not going below 1200 per day, even on my worst days. And if I did go that low, to not let it happen for more then a day or two at the most, and to try to balanace it out by eating more, if I could, in the following days. What the dietician calculated was based on current weight/height/goal weight & wanting to lose weight at a healthy rate of 1-2 pounds. If you can, ask your doctor to refer you to a dietician- they can really help guide you & make sure you are losing weight in healthy manor. Most insurances will pay for it & it is so worth it to have professional guidence.

    I would suggest trying to eat more- but small amount more frequently, and try to make sure you get enough protein in too. I've found for me that nuts are a great snack- as long as you measure them out, 1 oz of cashews only has 165 calories & 5 grams of protein- they are higher fat, but it mainly the good fats our bodies need to be healthy. I'm not big into the really low carb type diets or low fat for that matter. We need everything in moderation- protein, carbs & fat- and if you can make sure every meal/snack/mini-meal has a balance of all 3, you will feel fuller longer & you'll be more likely to meet your nutritional needs. You might want to track what you eat with something like Fitday.com- they have a free version online or you can purchase the PC version with even more bells & whistles. There are other similiar types of programs, but FitDay tracks not only calories/fat/carbs/protien, but also a lot of the vitamins & minerals that our bodies needs to be healthy. You mentioned being a very emotional person- the FitDay PC even lets you track your moods, which might be helpful for you too.

  • I just wanted to thanks everyone for the advice and support. It really helps me to have people to talk to who are in the same boat as me...and all the advice really opened my eyes to make me see that I was really over doing it. I am definatly going to go to Fitday.com...it looks like something that could really be beneifical for me. Thanks again ladies

If you click on the little grey "food" button at the top of your screen you will get all kinds of food information, calorie counts, etc. The "chicks" have put together a wealth of information as well as contracting for the US government's nutrition database right here where we don't have to go looking for it. http://www.3fatchicks.com/food-calorie-counts/ I think you'll find all kinds of good stuff so that you can make an educated decision going forward with your eating plan.

    As everyone else has said, at 800 calories a day your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism shuts down to a snails crawl.
