  • Instead of measuring weight on your ticker, try measuring yourself and reporting that. That should motivate you when you see the measurements shrinking. Then later comes the ticker weight. Many say the measuring is more accurate anyway.
  • In the case of Felicia, I'm not sure "reported" is a good word. What happened is this, Felicia was asked politely several times not to incorporate links to her site advertising things that were for sale. Doing that was a sure way to circumvent the rules of 3FC's which ban linking sites that sell stuff, or using the forum for self-promotion. After the last request, Felicia decided that she did not want to post here if she could not promote her website.

This is probably a good time to make note that clothing exchanges/sales or the like are not condoned by 3FC's whether money is exchanged or not. I see there has been some recent conversation here about that type of thing and I thought before anyone exerts too much time on the matter it would be prudent to mention the rules
    .
  • Brenda - I got something like that in an e-mail once for singing up for the site...When I get some extra time, I'm going to check it out as well...might as well, right?

Thinthinker - Was there a bad experience with exchanges in the past? Just curious as to why it's not allowed. Thanks! (PS, I'm not rocking the boat, just curious...lol)

I got bored, so I did another 7 minutes of dancing! lol
  • Jill -- At least your schedule has stabilized -- sounds like you weren't getting much sleep before. I know I *can* get up that early, but I don't know that I would adjust easily.

Dogpal -- Good to see you posting. I haven't looked to see if you're on the exercise thread again... come join us again!

Ammi -- It certainly is nice to be pampered now and again. Though I'm glad I don't have a birthday too often, I was on the phone with family for over three hours last night -- made getting my work done difficult.

Kayley -- Perception and sensation is cool stuff and you have to think about it differently. The "top bown" perceptions don't just create illusions, but are about ALL of our stereotypes and expectations. I like to say that the biggest lesson of psychology is that perception IS reality. Think about how others perceive us because we are fat, or how the label "crazy" affects how we view others. Those are the same processes going on when we talk about visual perceptions too...

    Cool stuff... really!!!
  • Thanks for the head's up Thin...I thought it would be nice to see if anyone wanted any of the things I no longer wear, but I'll let people email me now instead of talking about it on the board.

Kimi Let me tell you my scale story! When my DH and I started this journey we didn't own a scale. I knew what I weighed from the Dr. Anyway, he went out to buy a scale one evening and called me from Wal-Mart and said the highest that they went was 330 lbs! I got all indignanat and asked him just how fat he thought I was anyway! (I was at 328! Like I was going to admit it to him!) So he comes home with a scale...sets it in the bathroom and the next day I get on and see EEE! He bought one that only went to 300. So, since I was being all indignant, I got to weigh only at the Dr. until I lost 28 lbs and could make the Big EEE go away! Don't feel silly or embarassed dear. We've pretty much all been there!

Later ladies! Have a good night!
  • Wyllenn - Lol, I'm sure it would be interesting, if I could UNDERSTAND IT!!! hehe...I am like a deer in the headlights when she lectures. And so are most of the people in the class. For our midterm (next month, eeps), we have to know all the parts of the brain, what they do, and an example at least 2 sentences long of an example! I'm going to FAIL MISERABLY! We'll just say that SCIENCE isn't good with me! For our final paper, though, I'm going to do the psychological profile of a serial killer. There's so much info about them on the web, I could gather enough facts to write it! (Has to be 8-10 pages long).

I was kinda upset, thinking I wouldn't be able to get my workout in tomorrow, since I have my LONG day at school...where I have to WAIT until 6:30pm to go to my other class! But in Healthful Living, we have our "1 mile walk test", so that'll be my exercise tomorrow! And of COURSE it's supposed to be one of the coldest days of the winter tomorrow...just my luck!
  • Kimi - Just wanted to give you a big to the forum!!! And like Lilion and the other ladies have said, we've pretty much ALL BEEN THERE!!! I can't weigh at home, because the scale only goes to 300, so I've been weighing at my boyfriend's that goes up to like almost 400. Since it's the scale I started on, that's the one I'm going to keep weighing on even if I can weigh on the one at home. Don't feel embaressed! You are making a change in your life for the better!!!

  • aawwwwww shucks Kayley,,,,,,, Take care , and we can chatter about them as soon as u get them,,,,,,,,,,,,
  • Kayley: I don't know for sure if there were bad experiences in the past. I do know that sometimes issues are brought up amongst the mods and the admins down in the Hen's Roost to try and be PRO active rather than RE active. The clothes exchange/sales have been discussed for a good long while. It was decided that rather than taking up space for postings, pictures and the like that 3FC's should not entertain the idea. eBay and other sites are available for that type of thing. There were also concerns about what happens if someone's not happy, someone forgot to pay, etc. Even in an exchange situation stuff can go wrong. So rather than entertain any of it, or incure any liability expresses or implied, it is just easier to not allow it at all. I hope that sort of explains the position.
  • Thinthinker - Thanks a bunch! It definately makes sense. I could see where tension could build up if someone wasn't honest or something. If we were to do this NOT on the site, would we get in trouble somehow? Just exploring all the options, as I don't wanna get banned from here! I love this place too much!
  • Jill – I would never take a job that made me get up that early. I have worked the third shift, but I don’t think I would again either. However, tomorrow I have to leave the house at 6am in order to make a meeting in the Boston area and then be back in New York for a company dinner by 6:30pm. I am NOT looking forward to it.

Zelma – your exercise regimen is so inspiring. At what point in your loss did you start working out twice a day? I am going to stick with once for now, but I am thinking that eventually I will need to add mornings. I am just SO not a morning person.

Christine – If you find some good low sodium stuff I would love if you would pass it on. I have a real problem with eating too much salt – my legs swell up and can get very uncomfortable. I try to limit it, but it can be so hard. Soups are the hardest.

Kimi – Before I went back this year, for the last few years my weight would not register on my doctor’s scale – which went up to 350. The first time that happened I was totally mortified. So when I decided to get a scale I had no idea how much I weighed. I thought I might be close to 400 pounds – I had really felt like I had gained a lot of weight. However, when I finally weighed myself I was only 353 (I don’t think only is the right word to use there, but oh well). If you don’t have a scale that you can weigh on, don’t worry about it for awhile and take your measurements (although I also had to buy a special tape measure because the one I had only went up to 60” and my hips are bigger than that).

Brenda – I caught the 2nd half of American Idol tonight. I have been enjoying the try outs, but I am glad they are over. Watching some of those people is just too painful!

Wyllen – I meant to wish you a happy birthday yesterday! 30 wasn’t too big a deal except my BF did absolutely NOTHING for me. He just does not get the concept of celebrating birthdays. I have tried to educate him, but he still doesn’t seem to get it. At least I know it has nothing to do with how he feels about me. Since 30 wasn’t so bad I am guessing 40 will be rougher for me, but then I will hopefully be super healthy and loving life, so who knows!

Sharon – Happy Birthday to you too! That sucks you had to cook your own, but I totally relate. I wanted to go out for Indian food this weekend too, but didn’t get a chance. I LOVE the hot stuff.

Lilion – For a new mini-goal how about 100 pounds lost? Only 20 more to go to get there.

Kayley – I was going to give you a little lecture on not being so negative about yourself and your scholastic abilities and I just couldn’t figure out how to phrase it. All I can say is I hope you do well anyway – even if it isn’t your thing.

I am pretty excited because I just found out that 1) my health insurance will cover my total gym membership fees, and 2) my company is making this year’s theme “get in shape for 2006” in order to get the company in shape (we are a small company and things have been a bit rough lately). Also as part of the theme they also want to encourage employees to get in shape. They are going to reimburse us half of any fitness related expenses up to a certain dollar amount for the year. I am really happy about this because I thought I was going to need to stop going to the personal trainer once my student loans go into repayment this summer. With this extra, I should be able to keep going.
  • Nancy - I know I'm hard on myself...but I'm really doing terribly with this class!! That's so fantastic that your insurance company is going to pay for your gym membership! And your work's theme for the year...that should help EVEN more!!

  • I wanted to let everyone know how much I apreciate all the positive feedback. I was so mortifide when I saw the scale showing EE. I don't feel so alone anymore. Thank you, I look forward to getting to know all you girls.
