  • Hey guys a friend sent me an email with some sayings on it...

I thought this one was funny, because I just got done talking about doing the same thing in my previous post...

Self delusion is pulling in your stomach when you step on the scales - Paul Sweeney
  • Hey, SueMarie, as a college prof, I must say I don't recommend Doritos as a study tool. Seriously, I understand about eating when studying... I did it all too often myself when I was in graduate school. One thing I've done is just to make sure that when I have a late night or a lot of papers to grade, there's no bad snacks around, but there are some good ones (apples or carrots or something).
  • What do you teach Alice??
I am finishing my Masters right now...and I am hoping to teach a class now and then at the area community college. I LOVE TEACHING, but I am greedy and want lots of money.
  • My Tuesday Tip:
I have written down how GOOD I feel after exercising, and put it on a pinboard next to my desk, to remind me to get my butt in gear and do it.

And .. I had a good thing happen this morning - I went to meet some people for whom I am doing some contract work. When I got there, they had 3 teensy little computer chairs - one with arms. So I was feeling a little uncomfortable. Then I had to demonstrate something on the web ... and guess what - the computer with the little chair with arms was in front of the only computer with net access. So I gingerly sat in it .... AND FITTED. Gee I felt good!
I'm sure they thought I was just a very smiley person because I was smiling a lot after that! Anyway the good news is that they probably want me to do some work for them over the next few weeks.

I have started reading Dr Phil's book and it is very challenging. There is a checklist to see if you are ready to commit to losing weight and one of the questions is "I am ready to throw away clothes that are too big and no longer fit me" ... I had a lot of problems ticking yes to that question!
Of course my immediate thought was "but what if I put weight back on? I won't have anything to wear!!" and then I realised what I was saying. Why would I expect to put weight back on if I'm losing steadily and committed to this long term?? So .. this week I'm going through my wardrobe and getting rid of a lot of the clothes that are really loose on me - I don't think I'm going to put 45 lbs back on overnight so I realised I was being really silly about it.

    Leanne (feeling motivated!!)
  • Leanne: You sound like "life is good". That's a fantastic feeling!!!!

I donated 3 pairs of jeans I bought last spring. 2 were too big when I bought them but I waited too long to take them back. The other pair wasn't snug and now has a droopy a$$. So out they went. I have lots of clothes to get down into. I agree w/Dr. Phil. If they're too big get rid of them. Just like junk food. If a bigger size is there you grab it rather than making yourself make better choices so you can stay in the smaller size.

    You go girl!
  • Maybe we need a clothes swap as we are going down sizes! I am going to end up wtih sooooo many barely used clothes by the time I make it to my goal!!

  • Hello Ladies,

I've tallied up our numbers and come up with another 31 pounds lost. That puts us at roughly 82 pounds lost for the month of January.

I have been actively cleaning out my closets as clothes become too big. I get them out of the main closet and twice a year take stuff to Goodwill. It reaffirms my decision that I won't go back to being able to wear them. Another thing I took a hard look at was how I felt when I wore something. If I feel good, it fits good, and it looks good, then it stays in the closet. If I feel dowdy in any way, out it goes. That was a "duh" moment but I have worn so many dowdy clothes over my lifetime because its all that fit. No more dowdy!

Leanne - Great job on the motivation. And for getting Dr. Phil's book. I resisted it at first because of his demeanor and because of my hangup of him getting richer off me being fat. But I was so thankful that I gave in and read the book. Hope it helps you as well!! for you NSV's! That is awesome.

Sue Marie - The "roll call" is basically everyone making a public commitment to trying to lose the 2 pounds in 2 weeks. You don't have to have put your name on the list to be counted. Just something we do. As you've probably noted, sometime during the two weeks, I probably will go back and copy the last time it was posted and repost it just to remind folks about their commitment!

Angela - Yep the potty breaks are a problem when you start chugging the water. It does get better and it is much better if you stay committed to the water every day. I usually don't do as well on the weekend and then on Monday, I spend half the day running to the potty.

CD - I agree with Angela. You've got to start owning your weight and all the great work you have done. You don't want to get down to your goal weight, look in the mirror and still not accept that it is you.

Terri/P - Welcome! on your loss. Awesome!

Sue & Leanne - There is a Wendie plan that is floating around. It is like the zig-zag that you mentioned Sue. If you're doing weight watchers, you stagger the points you each. One day will be really low followed by a moderate then a high day, etc. Some people love it as it has something to do with keeping your body from getting complacent about the same amount of food intake and exercise each day.

Circles - Good to see you jumping in on the 2x2. Jump in the conversation any time!

Vera - Hey, maybe when the weather improves some, we could meet out at Little Blue Trace trail for a walk.

I only covered this thread for replies. Again, on the success we've had this past month.

  • Leanne--Good for you! That should be some motivation, eh? I can't wait for a similar moment... I'll be jealous until I find myself fitting somewhere I didn't expect to! And yes, give those big clothes away! I think it's the best feeling in the world... although I really liked my gray pants, which were the first to go....

Marcie--If you want money, find another line of work. As far as good jobs go, though, I absolutely can't complain. Can't think of anything I'd rather do. I teach in an English department. My specialization is early American lit (colonial and Revolutionary) but I'm at a "comprehensive" university, which means that we teach in things other than our specialities (of which I'm glad), so I also teach technical writing, general education courses in poetry and fiction, and specialized courses for English majors (like Literary History, which is supposed to cover all of English and American literary history, from Beowulf to the present). Next fall I'm getting to teach a senior seminar in Book History, about which I'm very very excited. Whoops, you asked the wrong question! Let me start talking about my job and I'll never shut up.

Terri--Thanks for the encouragement.... I'll try to hang in with the water for a couple of weeks before I complain any more!
  • Hi all! I'm only checking in for a minute because I have to for my bonuses for the new contest.

I am so far behind.....again. Like 2 threads. This thing has been moving so fast once again. It's very encouraging. I really will get back to do some replies, but probably not until tomorrow sometime.

I have another Dr. appointment for that spot on my leg in the morning. I'm sure she's not going to be happy. It's not going away and yesterday and today it's really been hurting again. I'm not looking forward to what she may think she has to do this time. I can handle putting cream on it every night. Anything more agressive and I'm not going to be too happy.

Count me in for the 2x2. I did not do well these past two weeks at all! Don't know what my problem is. No excuses. Just stupidity. These next two weeks will be better!!

Circles: Welcome to our little corner. Glad to see you here.

Pumpkin: Welcome to you as well. Congrats on the weightloss AND the new baby!!!

Just a note about the constant potty breaks when you're getting all your water in: I just keep reminding myself that I'm flushing "one more pound", just one more pound!!! It makes me realize it's not such a bad thing!

As far as the clothes that you're shrinking out of: You should try selling them on eBay. I did alot of that this past year. It's great if you have the time, because IT IS time consuming, but I got rid of almost everything I wanted to.

Ok, I'm heading to bed. I've gotten there at a decent hour for the last three nights and I feel much better in the morning!

    Love ya bunches!
  • Hi, everyone.
I agree that you really need to get rid of your "big" clothes as you shrink. If they are in your closet, you'll know they're there...waiting for you. Talking about clothing, I did a little shopping this weekend (which I hate). Finding clothing that fits me is nearly impossible. I think the clothing makers believe that if you're so big around your arms must hang down to your knees and you must be 7 ft tall! I finally did find something to buy, but hopefully soon I'll be fitting into the smaller clothing in my closet.
I haven't had a great week, but I could have done worse. We went to the movies, and I only had a small nibble of the popcorn. Anyway, February is a new month. I'm starting out right and will have a good February.
  • Hello All,

Terri-that's a great idea, we'll have to work on that
  • Debbie we must have different clothes manufacturers here in Australia ... I have the exact opposite problem. When I go shopping for clothes I often end up giving up because anything that fits around is much too short in the arms or in length. Its very hard for me to find just a normal chambray shirt with cuffs that actually fits me! I'm 5'9" and I think the manufacturers here think that everyone who is overweight must be 5 feet. I am also a classic "Aussie pear" shape and most large sizes here cater for top-heavy people with narrower hips and legs. I have given up for the last 10 years or so and just made my own clothes, but I have found as I am shrinking I am starting to be able to buy some things (mostly strappy tops etc that don't have arms!). I am so looking forward to be able to walk into a 'normal' size shop and pick and choose from the clothes. It may take me a couple of years to get there though! Still ... what is a couple of years when I've spent all this time being fat?

Well done on the popcorn - I always find that hard to resist when I go to the movies,

    Leanne
