Stopped in on the way to bed and saw we needed a new thread. Took me a while to remember how to start one.
Was OP again. 5 days in a row! This may be a 2004 record for me.
Anyone know anything about the new W.W. program. I loved doing pts. Have they dumped them entirely? I figure I'll have to get my a** back to a meeting soon.
Hi all! I worked real hard today so I have no time to stay. I did 14 jobs today and this puppy is whooped! After not really doing much for the last month ('cept run with mom) I guess I didn't realize that 14 in one day was a bit much!
Just wanted to comment on WW. It doesn't surpise me that they are shaking up programs again. I am a bit surprised that it's in September rather than the first of the year though. 2cute's right, it works, you just have to work it. And you all know I love the WW program. However, I must say that I think they "tweak" the program periodically so that they can start a new marketing program, but more importantly get WW members to buy all new program materials. After being a faithful member for 6 years (faithful meaning going to meetings, not faithful meaning following the program) I can vouch for the fact that the plan they had 6 years ago works just as well as the points or any other plan they come up with IF YOU WORK THE PLAN!!!
Gotta run. 14 jobs also means 14 reports to write. I'll be up for awhile! Love you guys. See ya later.
Can we say sticker shock? I just paid out $266 for school books today! Wow!!! They were out of two, but those don't add up to $30 together. So, I'm enrolled in school and have even purchased my books. I'm on my way, chicks!
I struggled with my food and cravings today, but still kept everything within program parameters. There was a ton of walking around on campus, plus I hit Curves for a nice workout, so exercise is good as well. I'm going to go drink some more water and finally hit the bed. It has been a good day.
I couldn't sleep (dh's snoring is monstrous tonight) so Here I AM.
Re: WW...I just got a coupon in the mail to re-join. The difference this time around is that you have two choices: You can follow the Points system or, you can do "No counting," I believe that you just have certain amounts from each of the food groups to choose from and set amounts per serving, something like that. In my opinion, WW is the best way (weigh?) to go. It's a fully balanced, all inclusive way to eat. No secret formulas or voodoo diet plan....Basically, it's protein at each meal, two servings of milk a day, lots of fruit and veggies, whole grains as opposed to simple (white) starches. Lots of water. "Goodies" are allowed, but in small portions. Being accountable. Keeping track of and recording what you eat. Daily exercise is encouraged.
IT'S THE WAY WE'RE SUPPOSED TO EAT! Probably very similar to what your doctor gave you, Skittles.
Can you tell I like WW? It just makes sense. If you follow it, it works.
I have to get some sleep...I guess I'll head for the couch...
BTW...those Breathe Right strips that are supposed to reduce snoring?
Hope you get some sleep Kat. I agree... BreatheRight don't work.
Andria.. have you tried finding your books on Amazon.com ?? My daughter sells a lot of college books on Amazon. You can save a LOT of money. She only buys current books and sells them much cheaper than even Used Book stores. You might want to check it out next semester.
I want to THANK Andria and EVERYONE who posts about your exercising and staying ON PROGRAM. It really helps to see others doing what is necessary for SUCCESS. Walking the dog... going to Curves... Oxycise .... reading DrPhil ... writing .... eating healthy ....you name it. It really does help !!!!! Thank you !!!
That said... I worked out in the pool for 45 minutes.
See you in the morning.
Pizza lunch is over. And I was wiped out afterwards. Not like I had to bake them myself! But we fed about 70 people. It went well. A bunch of accounting and actuary folks. We tried to liven things up by having them compete for a $25 American Express gift cert. They had to tell the funniest joke...clean joke, that is. The actuaries are funnier than the dud accountants. But it was fun. I had pizza but I ate some salad first, ate thin crust, small slices, and did not go back for the desserts.
Last night, I did 25 minutes on the airdyne while DH was making dinner. I was going for 30 minutes but at some point I looked at my intensity level and realized I was putzing around. I cranked up the intensity from 1.8 to 3.2 for a few minutes. Felt good but wow, sure made the sweat roll. Since its one of the fan driven stationary bike with arms, cranking up the intensity meant me pushing harder and faster. Now that I'm more aware of the fact that I can do it at that level, my goal will be to do more than 3 minutes at the higher level.
No dog walking due to storms. He was disappointed.
Much to my disappointment, my opinion of WW is that it first focus is a money machine. It is a for-profit organization. I do agree that it is the best plan. However, I think they got a little lax when they started the points system. In our meetings, there was a brief glossing over of the balanced diet and too many people were trying to eat their points any way they wanted. But with the popularity of Adkins and South Beach, they were back to putting more emphasis on the protein and healthy carbs to combat the competition. I do miss it but hated paying the weekly WI fee. Spending $35+ a month just to step on the scale was too much. Maybe if I'd had one of those great leaders you read about in their magazine, I would have felt more justified in the money. But my leader was around 67 and had lost her weight 30 years ago. But, none of it matters if you don't commit to working the plan.
I finished reading Dr. Phil!!!! I learned a lot working through the book. But, I am in no way, "cured". I feel differently about myself and about my relationship to food. However, the negative behavior is there lurking around, ready to attack at any time. Now, I have to learn how to work the keys and be willing to commit to working the keys. Or else, this is no different that WW. A money making machine for Dr P.
Crap, I'm supposed to be leaving for work in 30 minutes. I better get dressed.
Well I rode the bike for 15 minutes last night. I decided that in the evening would be a better time because with the seat laying back and the light off, I can see the stars outside the window. I rode about two and 1/2 miles. keeps telling me to take it easy and not to over do it. He doesn't want me back in the hospital. Of course neither do I.
I realized last night that I can't go swimming today. I just colored my hair. With my luck it would turn green. So I will ride the bike again this evening.
I had a really good day at work yesterday. I was very positive and had energy and just tried to be upbeat. It worked.
Thanks for the advice on the diet everyone. I talked to my doctor and he said everything you all said. I don't think I would be able to stick with such a strict diet and this is suppose to be a life change not a diet really. Soooo.... I will not be doing the 6 week thing and do it the right way. No quick fixes. And that is what I wanted and that is not what I need.
Andria, that is a lot of money for books. I envy you tho, I wish I could go back to school. I am just taking some distance courses right now. Just really can't afford to go to school. Good luck and enjoy it.
Kat, breathe right doesn't work cause it isn't his nose that's having the problem it's his neck and throat. I snored like crazy and I was always tired even though I was sleeping a lot. I went to a sleep clinic, found out because of my snoring I stopped breathing about once every two seconds. And I didn't get enough rem sleep because I would be aroused from not breathing. Now I have a c-pap machine, I don't snore and it isn't loud and I get sleep. I'm not as tired as I was nor as noisy.
Ok it is Tuesday so we need a tip:
Whenever you are having a craving and you are reaching for something bad. Say out loud, "NO! STOP! Hammer Time!" Then do a happy dance. You'll forget all about the bad goodies you were just about to reach for because everyone will be wondering what you are doing.
So it's my first tip, it might not be great, but if ya do it around people it will be funny.
I got ready to do my Oxycise last night, and I couldn't get it to work, so I took the tape out of the VCR and it was broke I guess I wore it out! (yeah with all my one night in a rows) Anyway, I was not to be outdone, so I dusted off my Level 2 tape. Of course as the name implies, Level 2 is to be done after you master Level 1. Two years ago when I was really doing it regularly, I was up to Level 4 tape, but it's been Level 1 for ages now, and not ever getting completely comfortable with it, so Level 2 was really a workout. But I did it,(a little sore today) and I will keep doing it!!! You are all here to keep me honest!
Yes, they help me. I can't do it just by the book, I need the tape to make sure I'm doing the right thing. This is so good for me because there is no jarring around on the joints. I have the four levels of the regular Oxycise, 3 levels of the Easy Does It, and the Buns & Thighs Level 1. I did notice that on the Oxycise site they are having a 2 for 1 sale, so I might just buy another Level 1 and the ABS & Upper Body workout. I also need a new commuter tape because the car I have now does not have a tape player, only a CD player.(and NO, I don't get a commission)
Hello everyone I'm very new to the boards, and even though I was given a lovely introduction by thinthinker, I'm still a wee bit confused about all that happens around here. I'll probably mostly lurk so I can get the hang of it and the idea.
However I will say a few things today - and just hope they fit into this thread. I started my college classes today, and did TONS of walking - mostly by choice. I have blisters from so much walking (I need to find good shoes!). I also bought some multi-vitamins and some leafy greens, many health groceries to help me out. I think starting college up again is going to help me work off these pounds - I just need some good walking shoes ;( Oh! and I plan on buying some Richard Simmons (or similar) tapes off ebay tonight, I know I really enjoy working to videos, I just hope paying the money for them will encourage me to make it worth it.
Hi all! No real time. I have a couple of reports to do and then I'm putting my feet up for the night. My right knee has been killing me since Monday and after yesterday's 14 jobs, and now a couple today, I can hardly walk. I've been taking my anti-inflamatories, but no relief. I think it's time for some ice.
CD: Welcome. You're in the right place. Don't feel as if you have to hide out lurking. I'm sorry if it's confusing. I just didn't want you to wonder why you weren't getting any responses on the Bio Thread and wanted to direct you here to introduce yourself so you'd get to know everyone. Sounds like you do alot of walking. That's great.
Ok, ladies, I've got to go. I'm dying here.
Oh, BTW, 2cute asked me about the sink hole in the news. If any of you have seen it on the National News, the sink hole in Sterling Heights, it's about a 1/2 mile from my house and currently measures 160 feet long x 60 feet wide x 45 feet deep. (that is the length of 4 school busses parked end to end and a depth of 3 school busses stacked on top of each other.) That is ONE BIG HOLE!!!!!
