  • This group is for those dealing with the challenges of being fit when you have a significant amount of weight to lose which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in!
  • OK - here we are - new year! No more excuses. I am 11 lbs heavier starting this year than last year. I worked too hard for those results - obviously not hard enough. Time to get back on track.

Working on what that plan looks like - I know it includes the commitment to record each bite and exercise.

    Happy New Year!
  • Happy New Year to all my friends here.

I'm starting the year a lot lower than last year but my goal is to break out of a 5 month slump where I keep gaining and losing the same few pounds over and over. I'm going to buckle down and do my best to avoid the things that set me sliding downward into disaster. This may mean a 2nd WW meeting a week if I need to keep my head on straight.

As soon as the snow lets up, hopefully after the Rose Parade, I'm going out for some fresh air. Food is planned for the day.
  • I forgot to weigh before breakfast! But I think I'm up 3-5 pounds from last year. Having been down as much as 15 pounds lower than right now at some point in the year.

I have a stressful year of lots of transitions coming and need some better and healthier coping mechanisms

    Happy new year!
  • I'm at 298, which is about where I started last year. I did get down to 288 during the year, but regained it all. My goal for this year is to keep the trend moving downward throughout the year and end 2013 lower than I'm starting it. I haven't been able to stay committed for the last few years, and yet I know what works and that commitment is the missing piece.

Carol, we can turn things around.

Heather, you mentioned DH's job changes... what else is coming up for you this year?

Judy, I know you can break out of this slump. New year is the right time for it.

Here we go. Happy new year!
  • Angela -- Well, it's not official at work yet, but I'm leaving my job and we're moving to Maine and I'm taking over my mom's business!! So, BIG changes!!

It's going to be hard to leave academia, but we don't want to retire here and aren't happy living far from all family. My family is in Maine and Mass, and we love it there.

It's more than a little stressful, though. I love my career and am not exactly suer where this new venture will go..
  • wow heather...so excited for you! Just follow your heart and things will work out!
angela- I cant stick with it either..i do good and then slowly let it all go to heck again. I am up a few lbs from last year.
I am down from my highest point this past year though. I hit 264 in 2012 and it really scared me. I dont ever want to go back to where I was.
My best friend has lost weight without exercise last night but i know that wont work for me. She cut out all soft drinks even diet, drinks only unsweet tea and eats alot less. She started out eating half of what she use to put on her plate..then she cut that down by half again. She looks like she did when we met 30 yrs ago. She has lost 55lbs.

I have the day off and will do some cleaning and then some exercise and grocery shop. I will make get in 10,000 steps before going to bed. I would love to sew today but know i need to be active today.
  • Whoa, Heather, that's huge. One more quarter then? I've never spent time in Maine but love Mass. too, and of course I understand wanting to be near family. What's your mom's business?

Debbie, we can do this! What's the sewing project you want to get to? What kind of exercise will you be up to today? I tried a kickboxing DVD in December and liked it a lot more than I expected, but today will probably be just walking for me.
  • Heather, I love Maine! I spent some time in E. Machias years ago. I hope this is a Good move for you and your DH. Count the days!
  • Thanks for the support everyone!
Angela, it's 2 more 10 week terms for me... as for the business, it's an independent bookkeeping business. My plan is to grow the business to be more training clients on the software most often used. I think that will be more like the teaching and advising I really like. But first I have to become proficient with it!

It's not official, as I haven't resigned yet, but will do that in the next couple of weeks.
  • Tough way to lose weight with a virus to start the year. Think I've seen the water weight loss. Looking forward to feeling better.

    Stay strong!
  • angela- I ended up doing wii games for 30 min and then some walking outside..brrr it was cold.
I did good with food again yesterday but didnt get enough water in. I will have to really work on increasing my liquids. Not sure whats up with that!!
I attempted to make my moms homemade yeast rolls. I was informed at Christmas that I have to master them before mom gets older and unable to make them. I had a list of people to share them with yesterday,...didnt get to share..they flopped.
  • Hi all! Exercising is my hardest challenge. I was swimming, walking and riding my recumbent bike. As I was becoming more active, my ankles and feet hurt...a lot. Then in November, I sprained my left ankle pretty severely. That put a stop to everything I was doing because all those activities flexed the ankle.

To make a long story short, I've been to a foot and ankle specialist and got some fairly sobering news. I shan't bore you all with the details. Simply put, my feet and ankles are in bad shape. I will be starting physical therapy in February.

I also have severe arthritis in my right knee. Fun, eh?

This week, I'm going to check out a local community center and see if I can start deep water aerobics. Next week, my doc said it would be OK to start my recumbent bike again.
  • Just back from WW. Lost 1.6 lbs over the last 2 weeks. So glad I'm still heading in the right direction.

It's still brrrrrr, cold this morning. it's almost 11:30 AM and temp is 5º. We're supposed to hit 30º tomorrow.. Heat wave!
  • Our snow is melting away slowly.I did hear that we might warm up to the 50s next week.
I had another good day yesterday. I made my yeast rolls and ate 2 and gave the rest away. I counted each calorie. I just had to prove to myself I could do it!!!
Thinking positive thoughts is helping me stay focused this time. I also plan to do some deep cleaning this weekend and that always seems to help keep me focused.
Scales are just 2lbs up from my before Christmas weight...and now tom arrives. Im hoping to be back to my lowest when he leaves.
Still getting some exercise in daily. woohoo!!

    judy- great weight loss!!
