  • I wish I could get my metabolism sorted out. I have tried to lose weight on 2000 calories a day. Nope, no weight loss, just maintaining.

I have tried to lose weight on 1500-1800 calories a day. Nope, no weight loss. Just maintaining.

I seem to lose weight on 1100-1400 or so calories a day. The difference is that when I eat right, meaning protein (which I ate for dinner---yay!) and avoid a diet to heavy in refined carbs, then, i can feel totally stuffed on 1100 calories a day.

Something snapped in my head tonight, and I went in the fridge and took out my favorite terriyaki boneless chicken, low in carbs, high in protein, and voila! I had a quick dinner/snack, coupled with a small container (like 2-4 oz) of chicken salad by TJs. I feel really good after eating it.

I charted my food for today, and ate waaaay too many carbs, and less than 10 percent of protein! yikes! I plugged in what I may eat tomorrow, and voila!! if I stick with it, then I will eat a much healthier ratio of protein, carbs, and fat. Woo hoo!! Something in me feels like I might actually be able to do this.
  • milliondollarbbw..you will definately have to let us know how that works for you! i love chicken (and do eat it a lot) but to know i could focus more on high protein would be awesome!
  • you can do it!! I know it. It is hard at first. But, you have done it before. Babysteps to get back on track. I know what you mean about the being full on 1100 calories. Some days I am sooooo fullll by 1100 and have ot push myself ot eat the extra 100 cals. SOme days I get up to the 1900's (I allow myself anywhere up to the 2500's but usually end up arond 1500) as far as the metabolism thing. I have the same problem . Drop the sugars (slowly) and dont eat white carbs. no croissants (I know they are soo gooodd) except once in a while. I was like you I couldn't lose unless I ate below 1200 but I found out it was because my pcos and insulin resistance. My diet was so high in carbs I wasn't losing , my blood sugar was spiking too much. My friend rebecca has the same issue, she has to cut to 900 again because of the carbs and she isnt insulin resistant that she knows of. Slowly try it, eat out less and use brown rice, wheat bread etc instead of white (it sucks at first cause fried chicken, french bread, its all so good) but its well worth it! trust me! I've been doing it for about a month now with a few slip ups but I feel soooooo much better for it!

Can you tell me more about the insulin resistance thing? I had read up on it, and thought I knew about it, AND, at one point I felt I did have a problem with carbs cause I would always be hungry if I ate too many carbs.

But, the difference in the past 6 months is that I don't have the huge appetite I used to have. I mean, I used to be able to really put it away. But now, if I eat too much I get this full and super uncomfortable/pukey feeling, so, I just eat smaller amounts.

Could my insulin be spiking, but I just not feel the extreme hunger like before?
  • Million It could be. I find that when I eat carbs or sweets, I just get hungrier and hungrier. I don't eat refined (white) carbs because of this. I also could always tell when my blood sugar or insulin was too high because I craved water and lots of it. SPecially after eating bread or even 3 small pieces of candy. I used to have a high carb diet so I felt icky a lot specially after eating carbs.
Insulin resistance works like this. A chemical in your body sends a signal to the fat cells to close off and not accept insulin thats being offered therefore your body thinks :hey, im not making enough" and makes more....this extra insulin then gets stored with excess carbs as fat in other fat cells. the more your blood suger spikes. the more the insulin spikes the more you store. For me, as soon as I dropped the carbs when I plateau'd WHOOSH 5 lbs lost BAM I havn't been at a stand still since. I eat whole wheat carbs or I don't eat carbs at all. Look for 2 g dietary fiber per every 15 g of carbs in items....those are unrefined and process slower so your blood sugar and insulin doesn't spike. It is hard getting used to at first. I can't eat much take out anymore. No pizza, no hamburgers. I don't eat fries, etc. It is hard at first but now 3 weeks in I find I can look at the package of cinnamon rolls on the counter and not want them at all whereas 3 mos ago i'd be dying and craving for one and asking my sister...."can I have one of those" Here is a site I used to look up what veggies, etc are ok for me. Some veggies are high in starches like green beans, potatos and corn and therefore are high in carbs and aren't so great for me except in moderation. http://www.heartlandnaturopathic.com/irdiet.htm I looked up what I should and shouldnt have on this site. this is also a great read on IR and exactly what it is. To help with a better understanding of it. http://www.medicinenet.com/insulin_r...ce/article.htm Like I said it was hard at first but since I dropped the carbs and sugar I FEEL SOOO MUCH BETTER! and what is more. I can walk through the bakery/candy aisles i nthe store and not crave ANYTHING. I am no longer a slave to the nasty bad for me but oh so good foods because I don't crave them, because my blood sugar doesnt crash and spike which calls for more sugar.
  • Hey million, have you been checked out by a doc lately???
  • I have been doing better on my diet and writing down my food. I need to see my doctor soon cause my stomach problems have not been good at all. This weekend, I was having some stomach issues, and, I just didn't have my usual appetite. I went to nice places to each, and only ordered small bowls of soup---not my usual larger plates.

I do know I have to reduce my sugar drinks, while keeping up a lot of fluids. I am going to eat fruit tomorrow and keep writing down my food.
