Roll of blubber, hear my cry!

  • I've decided to complete a Couch to 5k. That's right, I'm going to run. Really, I love the idea of running. It's the reality that doesn't suit my taste.

I've joined a ladies-only gym, purchased shoes that will support my flat feet, and downloaded appropriate fat-melting soundtracks. I'm ready? I'm to start this endeavor in about 6 hours. I can't sleep because I'm terrified.

    Let the whining commence:
I don't want to get up early in the cold to go to the gym which will probably be packed just to spite me. I don't want to get on a treadmill and let my butt jiggle in front of strangers and I don't want to be exhausted and gasping for air in front of them either.

I'll do it though. I've spent a quarter of my life hiding. What's the worst they can do--call me fat?

I'm going to strut into that gym, take my place on a treadmill and gasp for air with best of them!

    Wish me luck!

    Goodnight
  • Best of luck.. Can you share those Fat Melting sound tracks? I need some to help me run in the morning with my puppy dog.
  • Good for you Cheeky!! Get a goodnight's rest and enjoy your C25K.

Also, if you find that your feet/shins, etc are hurting you may need to (if you havent already) get some orthotics (support insoles) in addition to your shoes for flat feet. I only say that b/c that's something that I'm going through at this very moment. I have severly flat feet and also over pronate heavily. I bought some great motion control plus shoes but unfortunately they don't give me the shock absorption that I need when running (although I'm running on the street so the surface is much more rugged and there is a lot of impact).

Please share your experience tomorrow with us! Best wishes to you.
  • Hey there! Thanks for the luck. It must've worked because I made it out alive. I feel like I could have a nice long nap though. I didn't push myself too hard. I will push harder next time though. The gym was fairly empty, so that was nice. Also, the music did help.

@MyBodyisMyTemple- I did get some insoles when I purchased my shoes! Best investment ever! One of the reasons that I always hated to run was because of how my feet felt, but they actually feel really good today.

@BeautifullyBroken- I listen to a lot of different things. Today's workout was to a pre-recorded C25K track of hip-hop that was recommended by a friend. I'll have to ask her where she got it. I like to have a reminder of when to run and when to walk because of a habit of not watching my time on the treadmill.

The remaining workout activities were set to Daft Punk, which I will play on repeat . I chose music from the TRON: Legacy soundtrack for today. The track "Derezzed" is great when you need a kick in the butt, "End of Line" for a nice steady pace and "Solar Sailor" is very calming and good for a really quick cool down.
  • YAY! You did it! Great job! ALSO, at your thread title!
