How much did you lose before you could go get a pair of jeans at a smaller size (for the FIRST time)??? What size were you and what was your weight at the beginning and after the first size change. I was just curious since I haven't gone down a size yet. However, I am losing a ton of inches (I've been measuring weekly) so probably in the next week or two (I hope). I thought this would actually be a good thread for those wondering the same thing!
I started at 305lbs at a size 26... and obviously, I am still the same size! lol

Reason: Adding my starting size
So glad I am not the only one! Thanks for posting!!! I feel my jeans are getting lose too, but I am not quite there! I guess it depends how people carry their weight and it also probably depends on where they are losing the weight. I remember fitting into a size 18 at 220 (before I had kids). I know that might not be likely this time around since my body has changed and I gained so much weight all over! Then again, height has something to do with it too I am sure. Very interesting (people varying in sizes at the same weight)!
That is awesome! Way to go! I wore a size 14 when I was around 145lbs lol... I was 19 the last time I was that size. I am now 26 yrs old. I think the lowest size I've ever been (as a teen) was size 12 maybe. I was the weight I wanna be now! I was cursed with big thighs and butt... LOL
I agree with the above poster. Plus sizes have more range to them. I started in a size 24 (and sometimes 26, depending on the brand) and 3X tops in January at 274 lbs (I'm apple shaped, so carry most of my weight in the middle...which is another problem!) After about 30 lbs lost, I thought I would be ready for a smaller size, not quite! This was kind of discouraging, so I just kept plugging away and avoided the stores for a while.
I finally bought some new clothes in May after I had lost about 50 lbs total. My clothes were getting huge! I was delighted to find I had skipped size 22 all together and was in a solid 20 with some 18 "muffin tops." By the end of the summer (after only about 10 or 12 more lbs lost) I had to buy new work clothes. Now I'm in a "solid" 18 pants and 2X tops. I could probably technically wear 1X, but I like having a little more room so my shirts don't cling to my "spare tire." lol.
I am excited to finally be in the smallest of the plus sizes. I can't quite fit into a regular size 18 yet (yes, there is a difference!) Basically my plan is to wait until my current clothes start looking stupid, and hopefully I can buy a 16 in the "regular" sizes. This will be a HUGE paradigm shift for me. Haven't bought regular size clothes in many years.

Reading your last post...I think there really is something to "vanity" sizing. When I was in high school (early 90's) I was around 135-140 lbs and wore a 10 or a 12. Now on 3FC I see people with similar height/weight stats wearing 8's, 6's and even 2's! I know a lot depends on body type, muscle mass, bone structure, etc...but I think the sizes are different from when I was younger. It will be interesting to see when we get there! I've NEVER dreamed of fitting into anything smaller than an 8 (by early 90's standards), but with today's sizes, you never know!

I think some people just carry weight differently- when I was 160 I was a size 12! I was a swimmer in high school so I think that had something to do with it.
So much more goes into determining sizes than your height and weight - how you are shaped, how much muscle you have, what brands you are wearing, the cut of the pants, etc.
At my very highest weight, nearly 280, I was in a size 28. On my current journey, I was a size 20 at 240, 16 at 225, and am now very comfortably in a size 14 at about 215. I'm an apple shape, and all my weight is above my belly button. I have narrow hips and no thighs or butt.
At my highest, which was around 335+ (not sure of my exact start weight because I outweighed the scale) I was buying 30/32. I'm 5'2/5'3ish BTW. Because I carry most of my weight in my midsection, it takes about a good 25lbs before I notice a change in my size. When I got around 320 or so, my 30s were fitting more comfortably. By the Spring, when I got down to 306 my 30s were falling off and I could start buying a 28 (at Old Navy and Avenue). Now that I gained 19lbs and is now around 325, my 30s are fitting again and my 28s are tight. Sighs...
What a good post! I've been thinking about that a lot too. I know that my curent jeans (26's) have fit comfortably from 290-310 and was hoping they would be loose on me by the time the weather called for them. I'm at 295 and they can actually be tight after I eat...disturbing. Goodness knows they would have cut off my circulation at 316.
I'm looking forward to needing new jeans by Christmas ;-)
Well, I started at 306 in size 28. They are falling off of me, and I tried on an old pair of 26s. I've lost appx 30 lbs, and the 26 fit comfortably. I'm hoping it won't be another 30 lbs before I lose another pant size!!! I have several 20 and 22in my closet I'd like to wear. LOL
I started at 346 pounds in VERY tight and uncomfortable size 26 jeans. I didn't start feeling my pants being way too loose until I hit about 40 - 45 pounds lost. By the time I hit 60 pounds I had to put up most of my jeans b/c they would fall down when I got up off the couch. Now at 76 pounds lost I just went shopping for clothes for the first time and I was able to buy jeans in a very comfortable size 24 and seem to be just a few pounds away from a 22. I bought a pair of workout shorts yesterday that are 18/20s and THEY FIT!!! They're a little tight, but they fit. YAY!!!
Oh, and I'm 5 foot 6...and you guys are right, it takes WAY longer to move into another size when you're above the teen sizes.
Northern Exposure - Where are you from??? Where I am the "normal" sizes are 12 and below. 14 and over are considered plus size here. ***EDIT*** Nvm...just saw you're in the states.

As stupid as it may sound, I don't know. I was wearing 26s at my largest. I had 24s in the drawer, and when the 26s had room, I tried them on weekly until they fit. Same with 22s. I went shopping last weekend to buy a few pairs of 20s...and I can squeeze into them already. (Yay, stretch jeans...but I still need a few pounds.)
