Default JillieJills journey

This is my story- I was having some medical issues and I went to the Dr. He put me on the scale and told me I was 326lbs. I almost fell over. I have noticed clothing getting tight, it was getting harder to walk around, my feet hurt, my knees were hurting, I couldn't bend down anymore..but clearly that was from bloating (not my diet) or lack of general moving (i played soccer..in highschool...like 18 years ago). I had to come to terms with it, I wasn't fluffy, pleasently pump, or big boned.....I was obese and morbidly according to the cart. It was time I took control. I thought about weightloss surgery...but seriously, I AM an eater...one day I do want to eat a hamburger or a steak, or who knows Thanksgiving Dinner.....but right now, I had gone overboard way too often. I decided I would start a diet immediatley. I had my last ice cream cone treat Monday the 26th. Tuesday was rough....I wasn't prepared...I had yogurt...but that was it. So I started off with breakfast and then went shopping. I decided I was going to alternate. I am an eater...I have a sweet tooth, however that sweet tooth is overshadowed by my love of salt and fat. Sausage, cheese, chips, nachos, steak...that is my downfall. Right now you wonder how my cholestrol is.... But I digress I would have to give up the pierogies and mozz sticks. I invested in some laughing cow light wedges, wasa crisps, and vegies. I ate cheese and crackers and yogurt though out the day...snacking frequently becuase I was so hungery...and laying about. For dinner I grilled up some squash and seasoned it with salt and pepper. I went to bed hungry, but satisified I met my goal for the day. Wednesday I followed the same routine for breakfast and lunch, however I grilled chicken for dinner, and sauteed peppers and onions and ate with my family....that was nice. Today I noticed a big difference. I wasn't so hungry all day...I did need to stop and eat...but I wasn't ravenous. I went food shopping and found quite a few diet sandwhiches, and meals that I would enjoy...as well as dessert. This evening I ate my microwave meal, however I know tomorrow I eat with my family and I am looking forward to it. I am going to try tacos and see how creative I can be by cutting calories for me, while the rest of them still have their meal the traditional way. Good luck to everyone out there!

Jilly,

Welcome!! Come visit us on the weekly thread - lotsa nice people.

One of the reasons you might have been hungry is not enough protein compared to how many carbs you were eating that first day. Fitday.com is a great place to (and free) to write your foods down to be accountable. If you try for over 50g of protein (bare minimum for low activity peeps), you won't be so hungry.

Let us get to know you better!!! Don't worry about personals on the weekly thread, just say hello. There is a lot of inspiration there.

Hugs,
Ratkity

You're on the right path. Small changes is what it takes to jump start the weight loss process.

I have found a great alternative to the Doritos I so adore...the Quaker "Quakes" Cheddar Cheese rice cakes. You can eat like 9 of them for 70 calories! And they have lots of great flavors. I keep a bag in my car, one in my locker at work, my bedside table...just nice to have close in case a snack attack comes along! Also, Baskin Robbins has some amazing frozen yogurt, most under 190 calories for a 4 ounce scoop. Of course, that is an occasional treat, but it's nice to have the option! And Michaelina's Lean Gourmet has some super yummy frozen meals all that I've had are 290 calories or less. I've found the key (for me) is to eat several small amounts throughout the day as opposed to 3 larger meals. I try to eat 5 or 6 times a day. Good luck! You can do it!

Hey, might be too late but some taco ideas........

Add in cooked chopped spinach to bulk up your taco meat or use morning star farms taco ground up "meat". I honestly cannot tell the difference. Use your own seasoning mix and you will use less salt.

Make soft tacos instead of fried hard ones.

For the sour cream, use half yogurt and half sour cream mixed together.

the sour cream idea is a great one! I used up some onions and pepper i had from 2 nights before....they worked out really well...i stayed away from the guac and cheese....used a butter knife to spread on other items, instead of the spoon.....we ate late so i was starved and probably ate one too many tacos, but i'm back on track today. I had a little dessert...not even a serving and it satisfied me.

I also like the cheese rice cakes!!! i like the apple cin too..i use them with my yogurt in the morning, like a spoon. Its my light version of yogurt and granola.

So yesterday was HARD! went over the grandparents house...goodies everywhere and no weight loss support, in fact just the opposite "oh have something to eat!" "oh come on its good" "grandma made them, you don't want her to get angry do you?" "are you sure you dont want a brownie, they are small.." stuck to water and diet soda.....had some food, no chips (a personal best becuase I love salt), had a hot dog, no roll, some mac salad and sausage and peppers. I spoonful each on a dessert plate. weighed myself this morning.....I'm down 5lbs!!!!!!!! yay!!!!!!!!!

I fell off the wagon...but I'm back on now. I needed to have some surgery done. All is fine and now I can concentrate on my diet. It was hard when you had constant cravings and no energy. Dinner tonight will be mashed garlic and herb cauliflower and roasted turkey loin. saving my calories for later not happy I gave into cravings, but i did not over indulge and the short time I was on my diet I noticed that once off, my appetite was smaller.
