When did you start exercising?

  • I did not start adding exercise into my routine until 3 months had passed. At that time my weight loss had stalled and I knew it was time to add something in to the mix. I started walking a few laps around my building at work during lunch and it steadily increased where now I do 3 miles a day 5-6 days a week. Just in the past few weeks I have added jogging intervals into that 3 miles. I am by no means a exercise phenom and sometimes I dread doing it but afterwards I feel so much better.
  • Started right away but just by walking. If you want to feel healthier... exercise is the way to get there quicker. Waiting until you lose some might make it easier to move but you're still going to be very out of shape so likely won't feel that much more healthy. Even skinny folks going from couch to exercise struggle a bit in the beginning.
  • I didn't start formally "exercising" until about 6 months in, and I had lost probably 45 pounds (down to around 245) at that point. I had started doing a lot more daily movement--standing at my desk to work, housework, stuff like that, and was up to doing that a few hours per day. When I began "exercising" it was with walking up and down hills near my workplace. About three months later I added in some strength training.
  • I started when I lost about 30 lbs, but then I injured my back (not at all related to excercising) and I have just started again, at around 65 lbs down. It's way, way easier this time around, I have to say. Just losing weight, without any excercise, did so much to improve my fitness. Now that it's improved, I feel a lot more strong and confident when it comes to excercising.
  • I started right away. I have been mostly walking, using the WATP tapes by Leslie Sansone. So far so good! It is easy on my knees, and it is something I can do in the privacy of my own home. I am sure eventually they will not be as challenging, but I will cross that bridge when I get there!

Good luck to you no matter what you decide!
  • I've decided to stick with just walking for a little while in hopes that moving will start to make me feel better and want to do more. I'll see what that does.
  • I've started out walking trying to get to a mile each day. When I think about how far I have let myself go I feel so devestated. Just a few years ago I was 230 and worked out on the elliptical for 45 min 5 days a week. I will get back there eventually but for now I have to start where I am and go from there so I don't just stay paralyzed in defeat.

How long did it take you before you started to get more energy? I miss being so full of energy like I used to be!
  • I started out with exercise right away. Since I've been somewhat of a career dieter, I know that it's easier for me to stay on track with food if I exercise, because I really don't want to un-do my workouts with food.

I started out just with Leslie Sansone videos. I could do them, and I had them already I quickly pushed myself up to the three mile ones. I do really enjoy working out now, never thought I would be one to say that! If I skip my morning workout, I feel yucky all day.
  • Starting again...with Curves
I just started Curves....anyone have success stories and or tips? I'm also trying to remove processed and high fat foods from my diet. I had my first 30 minute work out yesterday and I'm thinking I could've worked harder, but I wanted something in an all female enviroment and structured. (My commitment to walking isn't strong enough!) Here's to fresh starts!!
