Default I think I've got the cool weather muchies

Just over a week ago, temps in Northern California were in the 90s and 100s. As of last week, we dropped into the 70s, and now the lows are in the 40s and 50s. I love LOVE this weather, but I've definitely noticed how I'm feeling hungrier all the time while I haven't changed anything else. And I want hot, comforting foods.

I'm managing with heartier soups and stews, but I'm starting to see a rise in my snacking and pre-dinner "tasting" as I cook. Plus, I'm hungrier for breakfast these days and want to eat more. The steel cut oats aren't keeping hunger at bay as long as they did last month.

Anybody else struggling with this yet? What do you do to combat this? I really don't want to increase my calories.

I added 1/2 c pumpkin to my oats. I also have been fixing a pot of soup on Sundays to have with my lunch. Today I'm trying Robin's Tomatoe Barley Soup - I'll let you know in a bit how it is. Fall certainly brings thoughts of heartier food to me.

I live in Michigan, so when the weather starts getting dreary, and of course once the snow hits, I'm mopier, and thus want to eat out of boredom/comfort because I don't get out as much.

I dont' have any tips, unfortunately. In the winter, I eat a LOT of soup. It's so hot that I have to eat it very slowly, and I get filled up. I tend to go for soups with long grain rice in them, because that fills me up more than noodles do. I also snack a lot more. I get in a LOT of fruit in the winter. Anywhere between 3-5 pieces sometimes! (mostly apples).

Veggies fill me up, too. I eat raw broccoli if I'm hungry, and it acts as an appetite suppressant to me.

OMG! I thought it was just me! I thought I was going nuts or my diet was breaking down or something - lately I've been adding bananas to anything that can take them, it fills a lot of space! I'm thinking of trying some stirable fiber - maybe having a smidge before meals or mixed in if the food can take it - my cholesteral is kind of border line and I figure that can help with that!

I can't stop fantasizing about chili. I think I might make a pot and just add a bunch of veggies, use lean meat, lots of beans (I love kidney beans!)

Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

This week, I've made split pea soup, Greek lemon soup with brown rice, lentil soup, and I'm craving chili too. I've bakes a lot of whole wheat bread. I've had fat cravings and have been using more olive oil and eating avocados.

I've gained four pounds. Not happy about that! But I am extremely regular now with all the extra fiber.

I think I'm going to wear sweaters and see if that will help. And go to bed earlier too.
