300+ Weekly Thread #1215

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support, inspiration, and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.

We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.

Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

Morning Heather and the rest of the chicks!

Not a bad week - lost 5 lbs last week and 14 in the past 3 weeks, although I'm having a hard time being really happy about it. Bizarre, I should be estatic. Can't figure out why I'm not satisfied with the results, or what is bringing me down...

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

dogpal 06-15-2009 10:31 AM

Good Morning all.

Sharon: I hope your back/hips and legs will be feeling better soon. See if you can get to a pool someplace to do some water walking. It helped me so much. Hugs.

Rat: Yippeee for getting to ride. I know that makes you feel so happy. Good for you!

Ags: I love new clothes. I hope that you will be wearing them before too long.

Letstryagain: Congrats on exercising during TOM. You are doing much better than I have been. What an inspiration you are. I am going to go to my interview and do my other chores this morning then come home and exercise. Thanks for inspiring me.

Kayley: Welcome back. Glad to see your smiling face. Happy belated 23rd birthday. I feel old. I will be 20 years older than you this week. lol.

Cyn: I'm so happy to hear that you had a nice day yesterday and you smiled.

Peggy: Glad that your Dr. finally listens to you. I swear when we are overweight they treat us like we are stupid and can't tell when our bodies are doing something.

Kootch: 1st congrats on losing the 5 more pounds! Next, your post struck a chord with me. I have had many times of not being more happy about weight loss. It is such a weird thing, We are trying so hard to reach our goals and get healthy and when we see the numbers go down often times we are blah about it. Hang in there. You are doing so well and just keep telling yourself that you are proud of you and that you are doing a good job. I think you are.

Well, I need to go read the Word of God and pray before my interview. I hate to start my day without my God time. I hope that you all have a glorious day filled with smiles, exercise, water and good food.

Oh, Carol: Hi there and hope you are well. Have you heard from Debi?

Blessings all,
Annie

kayleystar 06-15-2009 11:20 AM

Ah, it's nice to be posting here again. I've missed you all! My eating has been pretty bad lately, so I'm sure the scale will not be in my favor, but such as life. I'll be weighing tomorrow.

Well, I've gotta head to class, and then a 'girls only' kind of party to go to tonight at my friend Heather's house, so hopefully I'll pop in here tonight before bed. :)

Kootch - Hi! Don't think we've met yet, but congrats on your loss!

Annie - You're only as old as you feel! :) Thanks for the belated b-day. :) Good luck at your interview! Going for a new job?

CatherineM 06-15-2009 11:41 AM

I'm pretty nervous about going to the doctor today. Himself is escorting me fear that I will take a flyer instead. It's called prolonged exposure therapy. It's like taking someone who is afraid to fly to the airport repeatedly. Since I'm doing this for PTSD, we will be revisiting and trying to relive my attack repeatedly until (supposedly) it no longer causes anxiety. It's going to be a long summer, I suspect.

CatherineM 06-15-2009 11:47 AM

Just wanted to post a picture of what the Hobson Easyseat looks like because I know it is kind of hard to describe. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...160_AA160_.jpg

There are three different models now, and you can buy them on Amazon. If you go to Amazon through the FatChicks link, the website gets a cut.

letstryitagain 06-15-2009 12:10 PM

Hi ladies,

I'm off to a good start today and ready to stick to the plan. I'm going for 7/7 days OP this week.

Have a great day.

Dani052566 06-15-2009 12:22 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry I've been hiding in the weeds lately. I can't seem to do anything with any regularity. I'm on a computer all day so by the time I get home, I don't even want to turn mine on so I'm not very good with keeping up with postings and such, so my apologies.

So many have posted over the past week that I can't comment on them all but to say I hope everyone is doing well. I pray for those who need it and offer words of encouragement and hope to everyone, as well as congratulations to those who have been having some success.

Rat...great information on bikes. Thanks so much. I'm going to be moving at the end of July to about a mile from my office. To me, walking a mile (part of it is uphill) would be a struggle for me as my feet tend to scream if I walk even that little bit and the heat...well I can't stand the heat - makes me sick. Anyway, I was thinking of getting a bike. I used to ride one all the time but that was many years ago and the last time I tried one, 4 years ago, I was quite wobbly on it. But I have been considering whether a three-wheeler would be better for me. I'm hoping that if I live too close to drive to work (except in the winter months), it would help for me to at least bike if I can't walk. The information you gave is great. I have such short legs that I have a hard time finding one I can get one and feel comfortable on...and the seats...good grief but what an awful design most are.

The two cheek seat looks interesting...

In any case, my goal of one pound a week is still working - after 4 weeks I'm down 5 and that's with not a lot of effort to exercise so while it's not a lot, it's on plan and better than gaining.

I hope you all have a great week. I will try to be better at posting more often.

colormerd47 06-15-2009 02:45 PM

Good afternoon all,

Heather thanks for the new start for the week!!

Kootch, hot dang girl, you are a blaze, on fire, a doing well. I want to do just what you are doing, going down down baby, down down the roller coaster. What an inspiration.

Annie, I am following your lead today, I going to read The Word to have my spirit full. I will say a prayer for your interview. Blessings to you.

Kaley, do not know you that well, but it is high time that I did. Glad you are here. I have seen you before else where and I think you are such a pretty girl, hope all classes went well. I would like to hear about your online store.

Catherine, thank you so much for posting the pic of the seat, it looks incredible. Now I know what to look for, think I may order one to have on hand, and I think, thanks to Ratkity, I have the found the bike of my dreams. check this out ladies, I am even buying a swimsuit so I can go water walking. Some of the wonderful ladies on the Positive Uplifting thread have given me really great sites to check out. I really need a large size (30-32) cause I am so short and heavy. It may take a while, I will shall prevail. Boy, do I love you guys, always here and stepping up to the plate with help and support.

Letstry, one day at a time is all we can ask for and you are doing great.

Dani, your plan seems to be working really well for you. WTG!! Slow and sure and in the right direction. Who could ask for more.

I am having a good day today, I took the day off to stay home a babysit my grandson Malley, Short for Malichi, so that my daughter could make it to her new job. No babysitter today, so I stepped up and did the grandmotherly thing. It has been fun so far. LOL

Hope everyone has a great day today. Carol, how are you? Was hoping to see your bright and smiling face today. Hugs to you.

Later sweet taters
Ags

Thanks for the kind words, Ags! You're right, it is a roller coaster - so far downwards, but ya know there will be up days too. And I'm not looking forward to those...

Oh, and not a big deal, but I'm a guy. That said, I look mighty fine in a dress at times too, but don't tell my wife! :D

colormerd47 06-15-2009 04:08 PM

Kootch,
I am soooo sorry. I am not use to guys posting to often and I never ever even read the caption under your name. Charge it to my head and not my heart. But hey, it will be wonderful to have a guys perspective on things. Now I have two guy friends here, do you know E-Z Money, love him so much, what a charater he is, and oh sooo wise. Hot dang, now I have two brothers. And I won't tell your wife about the dress. LOL!!!!

Hugs to you,
Ags

Happy Monday Peeps (and Rooster Kootch)

The weekend flew by - was busy, fun and energizing all in one. We celebrated my dads 85th birthday a few days early with a family potluck. No more presents for my folks so all the leftovers are made into "tv dinners" - saves them energy they no longer have to cook and makes us feel like we really can do something for them once in awhile.

Unfortunately - with all the family favorites I overindulged a bit yesterday - but all leftovers are gone. The scale went up a pound this week - at this rate I won't hit 90 lbs released by September let alone my 100 lb goal.

I had a text from dgramie that hopefully they will be heading home today with heart cath to follow in about 6 weeks.

Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE.

Hugs to all,
Carol

Realist 06-15-2009 07:15 PM

Any positive vibes would be appreciated...my dad is in the hospital for irregular heartbeats.:?:

gggirls 06-15-2009 07:29 PM

Angie - coming your way

colormerd47 06-15-2009 07:31 PM

Carol, hey there's my chickie,

His 85th deserves a great big WOOT WOOT, so there ya go, I would like to be around that also. Great idea to make the leftovers into pre-packed meals for them, how considerate you kids are. Glad you had a good time. Thank you for the report on Debbi and her hubby. God is Good all the time.

Realist, prayers are ascending for your dad and his heart. Blessings and comfort for you and yours.

colormerd47 06-15-2009 09:58 PM

Catherine, I went to see the Hobson Easy Seat on line and they also had one that looked just like one called Hobson Pro x2 or something to that order and another one. Which one is best, the one they called the Hobson Easy Seat was made different. Please let me know, I went to the Amazon site. So the picture of the one you are showing, is the one you have?

ANGIE:: Prayers coming your way from Arizona!!!

dogpal 06-16-2009 12:10 AM

Kayley: Yep a new job. I was laid off in April. Okay on the age thing. I pretty much feel about 20ish. lol.

Catherine: How did the Dr. appt. go? I hope well. Hugs.

Dani: I know that when I used to work 10+ hours a day it stunk to get home and go back on the computer. Just check in when you can and post when you want. We still love ya.

Aggie: The interview went well. They have tons of people applying for the same job so,we will see around Friday I think. I did find out it is a temporary position that could go full time but that is how the state does it's hiring. So I could work 14 hours one week and up to 35 the next. I'm okay with that for now. I hope you had fun babysitting. That is so nice of you.

Kooch: I was cracking up at the mix up with your gender. lol. It reminds me of someone on here, I can't recall who did it but someone used to call me "Dogpile" instead of "dogpal". Funny stuff that is unintentional...hopefully with her calling me dogpile. lol.

Carol: I love that you packed up the dinners for your parents. Such a great idea. Don't worry about reaching your goal. Just do your best doll. You are doing fantastic. You never know, you may reach that goal after all but the time isn't the important thing. The trying to reach the goal is. Thanks for the update on Debi's hubby. You are so sweet to update us.

Angie: I will be praying for your dad. Hugs.

I am so proud of myself. No sugar today after a week of indulging and getting very sick last week. I have also exercised tons today which makes me happy. I even got out and rode about 6 miles with Joel on the bikes before we lifted weights and after my interview today I took my doggies out for a 20 minute walk. I hope tomorrow is just as good.

I hope you are all doing well. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Blessings,
Annie

I’ve been sick since Thursday, and it shows no sign of going away anytime soon. Blah. I absolutely hate being sick, and feeling this sluggish. :(

So, I’m going to get to bed, because I’m exhausted!

Have a great night, all! (well, it’s about 1am here….so have a good after-midnight!)

Catherine – I hope all went well at the Doctor today.

Ags – Hello! And I’m blushing! Lol….I don’t take compliments very well, but thank you. :) Once our website is up and running 100% (right now, we’re running our business off of Myspace! Boo.), I’ll tell you all about it! :) But we’re making some items & also selling items we buy wholesale….mostly from the gothic/Victorian/alternative scene.

Hope you had a fantastic day. :)

Carol – You look GREAT! Keep up the amazing work!

Angie
– Tons of positive thoughts are heading your way. I hope all is okay with your Dad.

Annie
– How did the interview go?!

dgramie 06-16-2009 07:48 AM

HI.....we are home for now!
Thanks so much for the prayers and good thoughts!
this has been a terrifying ordeal. He is on alot of blood thinners and will be on them for life. The blood clots may or may not be absorded by the body. He will have the heart cath in about 6 weeks once they get him stablized on the blood thinners and feel its safe to pull him off for a few days.We go today to learn all about the blood thinner and what he can and cant eat. We go tommorow for the scan of the atteries in the neck and some other test. I have a feeling this ordeal was just the beggining of a very long road.
I Knew he wasnt controling his glucose like he should but it wasnt extremely high either. His dr is a stickler and if he isnt careful he will be on insulin.

I came home to a out of control garden. We picked 3 cucumbers and 14 huge zucs and 17 squash and nothing was even close to being big enough to pick last thursday evening.
My scales are the same yet again. I was afraid i had gained during the ordeal because the first few days i didnt eat enough.
hugs to all and please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers

Torister 06-16-2009 08:45 AM

drgramie...sending prayers to give you strength during this time. I hope the docs get everything under control. The not knowing whats next is scarey! Don't forget to take care of yourself...you don't need you getting sick on top of everything else. Hang in there!

Ratkitten 06-16-2009 10:34 AM

dgramie and Realist... healing vibes sent to you and yours!!

Hugs,
Ratkity

kayleystar 06-16-2009 10:40 AM

No classes today, so I'm going to work on some homework, an order from a customer, and if the rain holds off, I'd like to get out for a walk.

I'm thinking about buying a Playstation 2 (since it'll be cheaper than a PS3), and get DDR. I played it for the first time in the mall a couple of months ago, and loved it. I definitely think it'd make for a fun workout.

Dgramie - You guys are in my thoughts! I hope today is better. *hugs*

winki 06-16-2009 12:25 PM

Hello Ladies,

I had a busy but great weekend. I however did gain 2 lbs, I was expecting it, but did not think it was going to be that bad. I just have to work harder.

I have a question are all you lovely ladies. What is a good exercise to start with? I tried the 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels but my knee just cant handle them. I do have an exercise bike that I use, but any other suggestion? I do feel my energy level going up but I need something to help me burn alittle more.

winki 06-16-2009 12:26 PM

dgramie- You are in my prayers

Torister 06-16-2009 12:29 PM

winki, when I started exercising I used my stationary bike. I then started walking around the neighborhood. Now I use the treadmill and weight lift. I also make sure I put extra steps into my day by parking at the far end of the parking lot at work and at the mall, etc. Every little bit counts.

CatherineM 06-16-2009 12:46 PM

Aggie-I have the original easyseat. It's over 20 years old at this point. I'm not sure I'd get the new pro seat because I found the rounded off seat doesn't dig in, and that kind of saddle seat might. Each side pivots up and down independent of the other side as you ride. When your leg is at the bottom, that side is tilted down in the front, and the other side is up because that leg is at the top of the pedals. It's kind of like how a stair master pedals go up and down.

As to swimsuits, I am very much a proponent of water aerobics. We put so much stress on our joints just walking around, that the water just makes sense, but most of us are too embarrassed to venture out in a suit. Having a suit you feel good in really helps. I used to get suits from this lady who would take your measurements and practically tailor one for $40. That was a long time ago, and she has retired. Junoia makes larger sizes. My biggest problem is that I am such a pear that no off the rack suit would ever fit me. If I didn't sew, I'd get one that fit the top part, and have a panel of fabric added at the side seams. Get some fabric that goes well with the color of the suit, and it will just look like part of the design. Any alteration shop will do that simple of work. You can also ask some older woman at church who sews to make you one. I use the pattern from Jalie, #2317. It goes up to size 22 XXL, which is my top size, and I alter for the bottom because the hips only go up to 53". I like it because it has a bit longer bottom like shorts. It also includes a maternity version which works well for women who are apples.

Doctor's visit went okay. We are just starting though. I try to schedule something fun to do afterwards so that I have something to look forward to, and to work off some steam. Next week, my favorite fabric store is having a big sidewalk sale, so I have incentive to go.

Kootch 06-16-2009 02:26 PM

There's so much illness amongst our fellow members here, and their loved ones... What I can't get over is the incredible support between the members of this group, not just in weight loss, but in all of life's struggles. Awesome stuff! Makes me pretty satisfied that I stumbled upon this group knowing what a great group you are...

dogpal 06-16-2009 04:11 PM

Kayley: the interview went fine. Thanks for asking. It was a panel interview so, you just never know. I should find out on Friday I think.

Debi: Hugs. I will continue to pray.

Winki: I started on my recumbant exercise bike when I started. I also went to a physical therapy pool and did water walking. I hope whatever you chose you enjoy.

Cah: glad that the Dr. visit went okay. Have fun tody if you can.

Kooch: Yep, these people are lovely people and we are very blessed to have them as part of our lives. I know I feel that way and thank God for my friends here daily.

Blessings all,
Annie

Dani052566 06-16-2009 04:15 PM

I’d like to add another alternative to Catherine’s suggestion about swim suits. I too and one of those who hate the idea of anyone seeing me in a suit. The swim fitness class I joined is actually for mostly retired/elderly people, but anyone can join. They are a great bunch of people (men and women) some of whom have had surgeries and are dealing with cancer and having prosthetics and I’ve found it to be such a welcoming group that they made me feel very comfortable from Day 1 so I’m grateful for that.

I ordered my bathing suit from Women Within online. I actually ordered the swim biker shorts which have longer legs but because they are for pools are less heavy when wet than the regular biker shorts I originally tried wearing. Then I bought a baby-doll type bathing suit top (in black with adjustable shoulder straps because I have no shoulders!) that goes down over my hips. And while I still can’t stand the thought of myself in the suit, I have found it to be less scary to wear than a once piece which I would likely struggle to get into (I’m heaviest in the abdomen and upper buttocks).

Like Catherine said, having a suit that you feel good in really helps.

On another note, I am sorry to hear about so many illnesses of posters and their family members. I send out good vibes and prayers for all of you.

colormerd47 06-16-2009 04:36 PM

Hi All and Oh Happy Day:carrot:,

Catherine, how are you today:)? Do you have a pic of the one you have?

Dgram, I am happy you all are home:hug:, seems so far so good and that is just what we want. Prayers that everything will be fine, our God is a God of second chances, everyday is a new day and new start, your hubby is getting both;);). Our prayers are continuing for your comfort, strength, healings and your faith. I love you girl:hug:.

Kootch, we trully are out brother's keepers:). When you are down, we are to lift you up, when you are happy, we are here to help you celebrate, when you struggle, we are here for you to lean on, we are our brother's keeper:hug:. Isn't love amazing!!!:carrot::carrot:

Winki, I am a biggg;) girl and when I started I walked, inside and outside, now I have a whoola hoop and it is a workout all by itself just trying to keep it up. I am going to start pool walking, I hear it is much easier on the knees and my knees need all the help they can get:dizzy:, and I am buying a Trike, yes a giant tri-cycle so this big girl can with the wind;). Try any of these to start, start easy and slow and work your way up. Happy exercising.

Torister, great idea parking further away, think I will try it but not too far, don't want to have to call a cab:D:D. LOL

Hey Rat, no stories today, I like them, please keep them coming:). I am buying that bike next payday. Hot dog!!!:carrot:

Kayley, cannot wait to see your stuff. Glad you are having a good day:cool:.

Well all I joined a 5 day challenge and so far so good. I met all of my goals on Monday and off to a very good start for today. Praying for a great WI on Thursday and if not it will be okay. One of my goals is not to let anyone or anything stress me a steal my Joy.:^:

Talk to you all, later gators,
Aggie

Dani,

Thanks for that info, I am going to that site when I leave here and going to check out those shorts. One more question, on that babydoll top, does it stay down in the water. I have a large tummy which hangs and a large backsides. Looking forward for your input.

June 14th results

Hi ladies,
So sorry I missed doing the weigh in results until today. I've been suffering with allergies so bad that I barely am awake most of the time. I just want to sleep so I don't have to deal with them.
Anyhow...the results are posted

DCHound 06-16-2009 09:55 PM

Sorry I've been MIA, I was on vacation for a long weekend but I'm back and caught up. Prayers for all the ill people and welcome Kooch!

Happy news for me, this weekend I saw a group of friend I hadn't seen since last June, 110 lbs ago. Several of them actually screamed when they saw me and couldn't quit raving. One of them had photos of me on her computer and pulled them up...wow, what a difference. One pic of me had me poured into a pair of size 30 slacks that looked like they were about to burst...and this weekend was the first time I've worn my new 16W jeans out in public ~ what a difference.

I was worn out when I got home so I called in sick to work on Monday. I can't wait to drop 50 more lbs. because I think I won't tire out as quickly as I do now. When I was in my 20s I could go for days on very little sleep...not now.

Happy Tuesday (almost Wednesday) everyone!

kayleystar 06-16-2009 10:28 PM

Just popping in here quickly before bed. I'm absolutely exhausted, and still feeling quite ill.

Have a great night all!!

Dani052566 06-17-2009 08:49 AM

Ags,

No unfortunately, if it's any kind of babydoll top that's not part of a one-piece because of the buoyancy of the water and the material, it will float up a bit. I tuck the end in slightly once I'm in the pool because when you're in the water, no one will notice that the edge is tucked in. Then I pull it back out before I get out of the water. I'm very heavy in the stomach and abdomen but as I said, when you're in the pool it's not noticeable. And in my swim fitness class we are bouncing all over the place - shallow end and deep end and I've never had any problems.

Hope this helps you. :smug:

azcyn 06-17-2009 09:31 AM

morning chickies...

Yesterday was not good! I was fine, got to work and was nautious the rest of the day. Then when I got home, My lower back and hip was killing me. I finally was able to lay down and snooze. I did call the Dr office, they said my results were in and the Dr would be calling me. I work at the lab, I know what my results are, and it makes me mad that the DOCTOR did not call me even after I called them. I really NEED a Dr that cares and cares that I am concerned.

Kayley: whats the myspace with your stuff??

I have noticed that my shirts are getting a little too big especially on top. YEAH!!

kayleystar 06-17-2009 10:26 AM

Good morning, all! I'm just getting ready to head to class, but wanted to pop in here quickly!

Cyn
- If you go to Myspace backslash cyberdollydesigns you'll get to our stuff. :) We're Cyber Dolly Designs & Clothing; I make dreadfalls, Cyberlox, and other hair things, and my partner in crime makes some fun stuff as well. And we stock dresses, lingerie, and corsets (up to 6x!). We're always adding stuff, and we've not been open a month yet, but we're doing well so far. :)

Happy Wednesday all,

I just got home from church dong some painting with some other ladies. We recentlyl expanded our church so there is lots to do to finish it. It is the 2nd time in my life I have ever painted. The first time was last week. lol. I enjoyed doing it and spending time with the other ladies. One of them knew it was my birthday and told all of them so about 20 people gathered together to sing happy birthday to me, work men included. It was cute and I tried to not get embarassed and just enjoy the moment. lol.

Cyn: Woo hoo to shirts being too big! I hope you feel better soon.

I had a super great meeting last night at my normal Tuesday night support group. It was wonderful. Our Dr. spoke and he spoke about our spirts needing to be healed not just our outside but we need to heal out inside too. It just spoke to my heart soooo much. I am so thankful for him. I came home last night so pumped up and I woke up this morning feeling pumped up and excited. This is the best I've felt mentally for soooo long. I hope that something clicked in me last night to help me see that I am important and that I do have a purpose because I have been struggling for so long feeling like a piece of crap that I was told I was growing up and I think today, I am not a piece of crap. Today I feel like I matter! I have been smiling all day. I hope it lasts because it sure has helped me to stay on track with eating.

Tonight I am going to the massage therapy school to check it out for their open house. I am considering going to it. We'll see.

I hope you are all doing wonderful today and are truly blessed.

Blessings,
Annie
