300+ Weekly Thread #1204

WELCOME!!

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support, inspiration, and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.

We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.

Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!

Ummm Heather I think I mis-titled this week's thread, sorry!xxxxx
Well we went to visit my parents at the week-end & it was not much fun! I haven't been online as the pc was acting up again & hubby to do 'something' to it.
Anyway I'm losing inches, but the weight isn't shifting, must be something to do with 'toilet' stuff, or the lack thereof.
xxxxxxsharon
ps post more later, stil got laundry to sort from the holiday.

dgramie 03-30-2009 09:21 AM

Its monday again...wow the weekends sure fly by.
I count myself as lucky to not have any real damage from the storms that went thru on sat. Just 20 min north of us was a horrible tornado. Alot of hail damage around me. Windows broke out, cars beat to death, and all we had was a few dings in our oldest car and a few screens knocked out. We were not at home at the time so our car wasnt here.
One of the kids i keep lives less than a mile from where the tornado hit. We are very lucky!!
I only lost 5.4lbs during out BL challenge.I am not happy with that but at least I did lose a bit.
I am looking for a big loss in the next few weeks...anyone with me??
Thanks for all the nice comments on my pic. It was taken at the wedding.
hugs to all and drink your water!!

Devsmama 03-30-2009 09:23 AM

Hey everyone...dgramie, you look sensational! We didn't really have any storms here, just some thunder and a little wind. Other than that it was pretty tame. How big of a loss are you looking for?

dgramie 03-30-2009 09:31 AM

devsmom our challenge was for 3 months...so my loss isnt much at all...but at least it wasnt a gain.
glad the storms missed you!

azcyn 03-30-2009 10:02 AM

morning ladies...

quick fly by.

My weekend was busy busy. Sat night i babysat my niece and nephew while their partents went to a concert. Had fun. Yesterday was my niece 2nd birthday party. I did well on eating. I did have cake but it was a small piece and no ice cream.

Today is a week with no fast food. A whole week! I have thought about it though..rather sad. lol But I will make it through this 30 days.

Today i get my new glasses! I am so excited. My old ones, the polycarbon went bad adn they are all foggy. It is horrible. I think they ahve been this way a while, but only in the past few months have I really noticed soemthing was wrong. So yeah on getting to see the correct way.

dgramie: your avitar is wonderful! You look so pretty!

Debbie54: Are we going to do another weightloss challenge?

DCHound 03-30-2009 10:10 AM

Happy Monday everyone! I hope it's warm and sunny where you are ~ it's not here.

I went out to eat with a friend Friday night. I stayed OP but clearly had waaaaaay too much sodium. Saturday I was up 10 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I drank tons of water all weekend to try to shed the water I was retaining. This morning I'm still up 7 lbs. How long does it take for y'all to lose water weight when you're retaining?

Note to self: visits to the buffet must be Strictly Limited from now on!

If you would like me to do another one, just convo me!

Bellydanzer 03-30-2009 03:56 PM

Hey there ladies!
Hope everybody had a great weekend. I took a yoga class for the first time and it was tough! But it was also a great way to stretch and strengthen. Think I'm gonna sign up for 6 weeks and see how I do. Did 11 minutes on the elliptical Saturday but also had a chicken crepe at the Original Pancake House, which was sooo good, but full of badness, I'm sure.

Did another 11 on the elliptical today, but I am up about 2.5 lbs. grrr. No more weighing until Friday!

Have a good Monday!

JuliaDH 03-30-2009 04:52 PM

My boys brought home awesome report cards today! So in the theme of rewards. DH and I are teaching the kids healthy ways to celebrate without food! They get to play video games until dinner on a school night! LOL. And if they get awesome 3rd term marks in June it will be a trip to the Toronto Blue Jays game. Smuggling in healthy food choices of course!

Heather 03-30-2009 08:36 PM

Sharon -- Thanks for starting the thread this morning! I fixed the title!

We started a new term today, and it was busy with lots of little details... But I am happy to report that I've strung together more than a week of being on plan! Finally! I've not been consistent for, I think, over a year!

shimmers 03-30-2009 11:51 PM

Hi everyone,

I had an appointment with the bariatric surgeon today and had the psych evaluation (re: my readiness to do this thing). Both went well. I've lost 6 of the 20 pounds the dr would like me to lose, and he'd like me to step it up a notch, getting more into the pre-surgery diet and more disciplined, all around, but overall he was encouraging. We're talking about a 'gastric sleeve' which is a pretty new procedure, comparatively.

Has anyone here had experience with gastric surgery?

Sweet dreams,

shimmers 03-31-2009 10:16 PM

I'm the first to check in today? :( Did I miss something? Am I on the wrong thread?

Hope you've all had a great day ;)

Realist 03-31-2009 11:54 PM

Hi all,

Today was a good day. I got over 12,000 steps in, plus will exceed my calories burned goal (3300). I have made a decision (I am 99% sure anyway). I am going to do the 10K race (I am merely walking) at the end of May. Right now I feel confident saying....I don't think I can walk 10K straight. So I am going to try to "train" for it. I found something online that tells me what I should be doing. I am guessing it wasn't written for someone as out of shape as me, so it should be a challenge. Right now I am in need of a goal other than weight loss. Because my weight (due to self sabotage I am certain) just isn't moving. But getting my walking in as scheduled, perhaps that will change.

Just one shout out...congrats on no longer being morbidly obese Carol! Way to go!

Angie

princesspuffypants 04-01-2009 02:07 AM

Angie - are you doing c25k? if not check it out. i found a website with music cued to this program to help you train

dolfingirl2000 04-01-2009 06:51 AM

Hi Everybody,

I'm just in for a minute. I had to put my starting weight on the challenge thread and I was pleased to find out that I've lost 4 lbs. all together. :D That's 1 more than I had thought so I'm happy about that. I also went to look at my BMI number and I happily discovered that just because of losing 4 lbs. my BMI went from a 47.5 to a 47.3. :) Can you all believe that 4 lbs. makes such a difference? I know it's only .2 but still, I honestly wasn't expecting to see that so I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm kind of bummed because I haven't been able to go to the gym on Monday and Tuesday. I had a lot to do and try to figure out for the restaurant and that unfortunately has to take precedence. If I can't go to the gym today I'm going to walk on my treadmill. I challenged myself to do 800 minutes in April so I want to make sure to get a good start.

Okay, you all have a great day. I have to go and finish getting ready for work. :p

 Vicki

gggirls 04-01-2009 07:16 AM

Just popping in to say good morning and..............

Move those bodies, drink your water and SMILE.

voodoo1 04-01-2009 07:43 AM

Thanks Heather, I forgot the title, DOH!!! Hope you get a rest soon.xxxxx
Is Johnnie any better GG? xxxxx
Nothing much to add, about to bath the dog in 'special' stuff to kill mites, fun, fun, fun...not!!!! It's very poisonous so I have to wear gloves, an apron & have windows open, hope he doesn't shake it all over me!! the weather here is GORGEOUS (20/68 degrees) I have four lines of washing out & two more piles waiting to get washed. I might have a stroll into town, get some fresh air, salad stuff & of course, EXERCISE!! When we went to my parents it was SO cold, rainy and when we got in my head was hurting from the cold & we all had to get changed as we were wet, covered in sand and VERY cold. Amazing how a couple of days can COMPLETELY change the weather here.
xxxxxsharon

Heather 04-01-2009 07:57 AM

No foolin'! It's time to exercise!! We are doing well at our 300+ exercise challenge for 2009, but we can still use MORE minutes!!

Please think about recording your minutes any time you exercise in April! You don't need to commit to a goal or anything!!

dgramie 04-01-2009 08:48 AM

I survive my day of being hungry yesterday with only about 100 calories extra. I drank a gallon and a half of water. Dont know what triggered that hunger attack.
Its a new month and time to really focus...we want to look awesome in shorts.

CatherineM 04-01-2009 06:04 PM

I'm in total prima donna mode. It's getting close to Easter, and lots of choir practice, and I got assigned a solo with an accompanist I dislike who only uses music written by people who have been dead for several hundred years. I actually told the music director (my best friend) that I wouldn't do it. No is something I have rarely had in my vocabulary, so that is a big step for me.

Tonight I am off to a fundraiser activity. I'm going to be counting money in the back of a casino from 10pm until 3am. It's going to take a lot of caffeine, and no one better wake me up early in the morning. It earns our church $60,000, but I have some serious ethical issues with it. The alternative is leasing out the church basement to massage parlor or convenience store, so I guess I can deal with it. The Calgary bishop has already outlawed them as fundraisers for churches or schools under him. Our Archbishop hasn't yet, but I expect he will soon. They found a 2 year old in a car in a casino parking lot down in Calgary a few days ago. His dad had been inside for 6 hours. The baby was cold and vomiting. With the economy, I can foresee more people giving into the desperation of gambling too much. This is a far cry from the grandmothers at bingo at our church when I was a kid. Been a long time since I was around that much money.

Hi everyone.

All I have been doing is working, working and more working. We lost the contract with the state so prior to yesterday I was working getting files ready to be transferred. Starting today, I am answering the phones and trying to assist any clients who are confused or don't know what to do.

I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there. I will be working the rest of this week then I will be laid off. I have an appointment with Vocational Rehab tomorrow.Hopefully it will go well.

Blessings all,
annie

shimmers 04-01-2009 09:24 PM

Evening, all,

I had a productive day, but mostly with work. The visit with the surgeon was really motivating, and I watched my diet today, but I've been so busy with work and chores, I haven't taken time to exercise. I still have a few hours left to today, though.

Angie, congrats on a good day and a great decision! I hope this new challenge energizes your efforts.

Vicki, wtg on your weight loss. It’s good you have exercise options. We have an elliptical because the gyms in our town are ‘eh.’

Sharon, I hope you had a great walk. It sounds Wonderful!

DG, good for you powering through yesterday!

Catherine, by saying no did that mean you got a different accompanist? Music from the 20th century or beyond? I can see how casinos and churches don’t mix easily – I hope all goes well for you.

Annie, good luck with Voc Rehab tomorrow. You deserve good news and good luck.

dgramie 04-01-2009 09:46 PM

GReat day...food, water and exercise and just feel great!!

Realist 04-01-2009 10:51 PM

Hi all,

Another decent day, pretty happy about it. It was snowing, windy, and cold, and I still went out and walked today. I frozen my rear off!!

Luan - I have thought about doing the C25K, but I worry about my knees at this weight. I do plan to start running at some point, but it will probably by 25 to 40 pounds away.

That's if for me tonight.

Angie

Good Morning Lovlies!

Here an inspirational quote for today.

“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there” - Will Rogers

So those of us who are on the right track just need to get the engines fired up and get rolling! Like the little engine that could.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lit...ine_That_Could

Headed off to my ladies bible study. Must fend off the yummies they bring. Although lately people have been great with healthy options...AND my trust bottle of water.

DCHound 04-02-2009 11:32 AM

Happy Thursday everyone!

princesspuffypants 04-02-2009 12:10 PM

angie - how about a modified version to start with. slow walking then fast walking instead of running. if youre on a treadmill that will absorb a lot of the shock before your knees will. good luck to you!

chicadee76 04-02-2009 12:11 PM

I have overcome some fear to use the pool at my job. I work for a police academy. Thus, they have a full scale gym and pool. Well, I talked to a co-worker and got a buddy, so I plan to use the pool 2 days a week.

Jacquie668 04-02-2009 01:00 PM

Hey ya'll... :D

Been busy busy busy and well dealing with hormones again. Hopefully next month will be better since I'll be on BC. *shrugs*

I hope everyone is well. I haven't had the time to even read posts, but just wanted to say helloooooo. I have a big meeting tomorrow and then I can relax for a day or two. :D By relaxing I mean taking my fat butt out to exercise. Getting myself into a routine if it kills me lol.

*hugs*

gggirls 04-02-2009 01:04 PM

Sharon - Johnnie is recovering more slowly than she had hoped. I gave her your message and I could hear the smile in her voice. I'll tell her you asked again - thanks!

CatherineM 04-02-2009 06:41 PM

I survived my casino night. It was actually great fun. I was back in a count room that looked like something from Ocean's 11, except with cheaper carpet. Same guys in black suits and little earphone radios dangling from their ears. I have never sat down and counted over a quarter of a million dollars in one sitting before. Everything had to be counted twice by two teams. I had a little bill counting machine that would spit out 100 bill stacks. For $100 bills, that's 10 grand in the time it takes to burp. This was a Wednesday night. I can't imagine what it must be like on the weekends. I wanted to go around to the poker tables and tell people to go home and pay their mortgages instead. We only counted the money at the tables, and most people were on the slots and video poker. Some playing two machines at once.

I'm told it's good for me to get out and try new things. I sure washed my hands good when I was done.

dogpal 04-02-2009 07:08 PM

Hi all,

Shimmers: So glad that your appt. wtih your surgeon was a good one.

Debi: Hi hon. Glad you had a great day yesterday. I love your avatar pic!

Chacadee: Yippeee for going to the pool at work. I'm proud of you.

Carol: Thanks for the update on Johnnie. Please tell her I think of her often and I am continuing to pray for her healing.

Catherine: That would be weird to see that much cash at one time.

Tomorrow is my last day at my current job. I had a great meeting with Voc rehab today. I told her my dream job would be to speak to people both in a conference style and one on one about weight loss surgery and to support and encourage them. She suggested that I speak to my surgeon about the possiblility of him making a position for me at his office as a paid peer mentor. I went there to get some high protein snacks and talked a bit to his office manager about it and she thinks it is a wonderful idea. I told her I could visit people in the hospital that just had surgery and pre-op people. I would be willing to go to the Montana, Southern Idaho, Washington and Oregon to speak at Orientations instead of making the people travel over here to this area to be at the oreientations. All of that to say, If he doesn't agree with it then I will have to decide on what else I want to do and she is behind me 100% and will gladly assist me in schooling. So, all in all it was a great appointment.

I have been doing really poorly on food choices and exercise and I am making a plan to have a much better day tomorrow and for the rest of the evening.

Blessings all,
Annie

Quick fly by all...

I am still gettting use to my new glasses so I am trying to not be at the computer at home as much!

shimmers 04-02-2009 10:19 PM

Hey everyone, just a quick fly-by. A tree blocked my commute home and the detour added an hour to my time. argh! I'm off to visit with my dh.

gggirls 04-03-2009 06:17 AM

Good Morning Peeps - Happy Friday!

I was looking through the picture thread and I am missing lots of chicks - come out come out wherever you are (you know who you are). We miss you!

Angie - great plan! For me it always helps working a plan rather than just waiting to see what happens. How was your day yesterday?

Annie - wow would that be the perfect job for you or what? Your experience with the surgery combined with your love and compassion seems a great fit. Sounds like things are better for you this week. Glad to see you posting.

Debbie - thanks for setting up the next quarter's weigh in schedule. It helps so much for me to see the overall changes being the slow loser I am.

Here it is my day off - up at 4 - kitchen and dining room cleaned - ready to start on the stairway carpets before the dogs decide its breakfast time. Off to have my teeth cleaned and to the office for a few hours - then maybe a nap but certainly at least 45 minutes of exercise today. Last night my trainer must have had too much sugar of caffeine - she was tough! She started out 1 push up then roll over 1 crunch - then 2 push ups - 2 crunches - until you reach 10 of each. At the end of the workout it was 10 push ups - 10 crunches back down to 1. I didn't make the 10 - 1 but it was a great workout nonetheless after 45 minutes of cardio.

Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE.

Hugs to all,
Carol

Mainah 04-03-2009 11:02 AM

I've posted this in a couple of places, so please forgive me if you've read it elsewhere. I count calories and have been using TheDailyPlate to keep track. That site tells me I need a little over 2100 calories a day to lose 2 pounds per week. I thought that was high, and my weight loss has been a bit slow. So I checked Spark People today and that site tells me I need around 1700 calories per day! Grrrr....400 calories is a big difference! How do I know which is right?
