Default How long until they noticed?

I am curious, for those who have lost a reasonable amount of weight, how many lbs. did you lose before coworkers and family began to notice you had lost?

I personally am betting that nobody notices until I lose like 50 lbs. I feel like it will really substantiate my efforts when somebody who doesn't know I am dieting can tell purely from looking at me. For this reason, I am not telling ANYONE that I am dieting. I told my Mom that I am watching what I am eating, but she has heard this probably 100 times before and my weight has only steadily risen. So she has probably already forgotten, since that was a month ago.

I personally can already tell that I have lost weight. I am wearing a pair of pants and shirt that I ordered from Old Navy.com and when they arrived they didn't fit. So I told myself that I would lose the 15-20 lbs needed to fit into them or I would return them within the month. That was September. LOL. I forgot to mail them back, so I have them to wear now that I have actually lost the weight. The pants fit PERFECTLY and the shirt could be a tiny bit bigger but fits. I am going to post a picture in the mini-goals section later because I am so excited by this! The pants are a size 26, so size 24 here I come!!! Size 24 and 305 is what I wore and weighed when I met my fiance almost a year and a half ago.

Isn't it funny that we have milestone weights that are completely random but mean something to us and only us?

Because it happens over time it does tend to go unnoticed when someone you see every day is losing weight. Probably the first people to notice will be people who don't see you every day. The people around you all the time will probably first notice when you buy new clothes.

My grandma and friend Eve noticed first. I don't see either of them on a daily basis. I see them once every two weeks.

I didn't tell anyone--my hubby knew I was trying but never said anything either until I hit about the 30 pound mark.

I think it was about 50 pounds -- maybe more -- before people who saw me regularly noticed AND said something.

People noticed when I had lost around 20-30 pounds. I got a nudge from family members and they said "we see you are doing something and you keep it up. we can tell you're loosing weight and feeling better."

The second weird notice, and I'm about 60 pounds in, was I bought new clothes that fit. Sexay jeans haha...and shoved my boobs in a supportive bra, low cut shirt, make up...I got the "wow, you are looking good!"

I think that day, I was just carrying myself so positively. I was beaming with smiles and well..."support". haha.

Now if only I can shove my huge stomach into something more shapely lol.

Hi tcsmart! First of all I want to say that I think it's a great idea not to tell anyone you're losing weight. For me, it helped a lot not to have that pressure.
The first person to notice my weight loss (who commented) was my roommate, and she noticed when I was down about 40 to 50 lbs I think. But then again, she had been observing my eating habits as well. The second person was a friend of mine who hadn't seen me in a while, and he noticed when I had lost about 50 lbs. That was a great day!

A few close friends made comments around 30 pounds, but a lot of people noticed and started saying things around 50-60 pounds. Now at 80 pounds pretty much everyone says something.

Keep up the great work!

Let's see.......

320 when we moved into our house
290 when we went to NYC
270 when we went to Jamaica
220 when we met & started seriously dating

I too have milestones. I am looking foward to reminding my DF of these times in our lives when I revisit these weights.

My niece always says that she can tell I've lost weight.....but I think she just loves me the best : )

for me it was when I lost some where between 30-40 lbs..

but what I do Is take pictures of my face and my body each month wearing the same thing and posing at the same spot in my house and especially the close up of my face you can always see the changes that began after I had lost just 12-15 lbs.. I suggest taking a picture a close of up your face each month.. and you;ll see the difference even if you or your family and friends cant each day- pictures don't lie!

When I lost weight the first time, it took 40-50 pounds before people started noticing. I miss that a bit because now I figure those people who noticed are now judging me for gaining it back.
