300+ Weekly Thread #1170
WELCOME! We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs. We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't. We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time. Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out. We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us. I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out. If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site. Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker. There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!! |
Joins in Zelma's cry *AMMMMMMMMMMIIIIIIIIIIIIIII*
Great to see you! You've been missed *hugs* Luv, Ratkity |
Good Morning-
Well I just got off the phone with big boss of work. I feel like it was a waste of my time to call. We will see. Kids have school registration today and little one excited to see who her teacher will be. So we will go there soon. She had a friend spend the night and I have to vacuum up popcorn that is everywhere! I think they are going to get the kareoke out today too. Older daughter left already to go help the band teacher out this morning with signing up freshman. Hubby is home and sending off some resumes to some places. I think it is going to be a hot one here today! I better get moving now. Hope you all have a great day. I have to go drink water now. Penny |
Ammi-I missed you
Zelma-It is hard to get doctors to look on a voice as a musical instrument, and treat it like a Stradivarius. Just don't let the ENT put you head down on a table and take X-rays up your nose. That's was just wrong on so many levels. I am doing a count down to school starting. I am going to register this week, and stay home and sew. I got all my top base layers for winter yesterday. Summer is the best time to shop for winter stuff at thrift stores. I even found an Obus Forme cushion to use in class. The only part of my butt that doesn't have cushion is the part that hits the seat. It's important for sciatic pain to have cushioning so that none of your weight is on your tail bone. I haven't bought a cushion because they cost up to $100, so finding just what I needed at the thrift store for $6 was a tad freaky. I may have knocked another woman out of the way to grab it, I'm fuzzy on the details. There is one nice thing about no longer using a wheelchair, I can properly jostle and fight over stuff at crowded sales. You just can't do that properly sitting down. I reminded me of the basement sales the day after Christmas my mom used to take me to. This was a grand opening of a new thrift store, so it was pretty crowded. Himself looked like a calf in the lion's den. He's 6'5", but looked scared to be around that many pushy women. He kept trying to stay out of the line of fire, and then finally asked if he could wait outside. I found him later sitting on a horrid green chair in the furniture department. He had no worries that anyone was going to buy it. It would have looked great in a 1960's TV show. He survived though. At least I don't make him hold my bag. |
Dinner went well with the in-laws. I made FIL sit and listen to me and in the end it boiled down to that my weight is not a topic for discussion or comment and that he can't lose weight for me I can't stop smoking for him. The thing is...he is a sweet well-intentioned man with no filter so things just come out. I think it helped that I acknowledged that I understood he was being supportive. I did also call him a hypocrite though and I think that kind of got him. Oh well.
AMMI....wow..welcome back and hello!!! |

How was your 1st day back at school?? going to go and refill my water jug..already had my 1st 64 ounces hugs debi |
Thank you all for your well wishes and congratulations. I think all of you wonderful ladies have been a major contributor to my sustained weight loss. Thank you for that as well. After the initial euphoria, I did have somewhat of a letdown because I started thinking about the fact that although I passed a milestone, it is still not even 50% of what I would like to ideally lose in total. But then I realized that if I just stay with the program I will get there, if I can do the first 100, I can certainly do the rest.
Catherine - What a coup getting just the cushion you need for $6. Sounds like you will have everything well organized before school starts. Julee - Glad you were able to clear the air with FIL Hope everyone is having a great day! |
I am jumping in after discovering the 300 thread. I don't do personals very well because by the time I have read and am now typing, I have forgotten most details.
I ate after everyone was in bed last night. Not a mindless gorge but a planned binge. A binge nonetheless. I counted the calories and wrote them down as well but am still disappointed in myself. I knew I would be while I was doing it too. Now I have to make up for it in the days left until my weigh in. I hate doing that and should have remembered so. We had emotional discussions yesterday and I think that was part of the whole reason, I don't really want it to be though. I thought I was sorta done with Food being so important, like it is something that can fix things and comfort. I will have to be diligent in my feelings this week and find reasons and motivations for being successful in my weight loss endeavor. Toni |
hugs toni...we all have an attachment to food of some sort. Hey just remember it could have been worse! back on the wagon today and increase your water for the next few days.
debi |
I'm back again, hoping to make myself stick around this time. I started a new little thread in this section if you want to take a peek. :)
|
Annie, I love to shoot guns!!! Isn't it a blast? Sounds like you're always on the move these days. Doing 5k, bike riding, and walking. I admire you're motivation kiddo!!
Angie, sometimes we just reach a point where things slow down. The sodium can be a big problem if you don't get enough water in. Maybe the bod needs a break. It could be a number of things. Just try not to over analyze things. Ammi!!! Hi Girl!!! We miss ya lots here! Just to let you know, for some reason the US and Canada can't get Scrabulous right now. Just when the games were gettting good!! Johnnie, you better not even get down on yourself for not reaching the 50% mark!!! You've done amazingly well on your journey and you've come so far and should be so proud of yourself. Do you realize how many people out there will never make it to the 100 lb loss mark? You just keep doing what you're doing, and you'll hit the 50% mark. We're all so happy and proud of you!!! Toni, welcome and join in whenever you can. You can do this!! Ewing, welcome to you too!!! Today I officially started back OP. I wanted to wait til Jim went back to work and things got to normal. I was at 291on last Friday, but now at 288 today, so already the water weight is coming off. I'll be happy when I get these 16 lbs off that I gained. It sure can come back so easily. I'm back to working on my little banks too for something to keep me occupied. HOpe all are having a great day and staying OP and drinking that water, and movin! Debbie |
Angie: Hang in there is number one on my list of hitting a plateau. Is there any way you can up your water a bit, maybe eat more fresh fruits and veggies and protein and not so many salty things? Sorry I'm not more help but hugs to you hun.
Ammi: Thanks so much. It was so great to see you post here. I know you are at the over 40 thread these days but stop in when you can. Everyone here misses you soooo much. Hugs. Bernice: Have fun at work. Is there any way your daughter could ride the bus or something so you can ride your bike? Great job recommitting to staying op. I myeself have a renewed feeling today about exercising more again. I need to do that to get my weight moving downward again. I have slowed in my weight loss so much. I want to get to my next goal so badly. I guess we all do. Hugs. Sharon: I will be praying that you get the job sweetie. Thanks for the sexy comments. lol. Sorry about your throat too. Do you have the recipe for the ww soup? I would love to try to make it if you have it. Penny: Have a great day hun. Catherine: Great job that you got the pillow at the thrift store. I think God was watching out for you. I wish I could find good things at the thrift stores around here. The only plus size clothes that I find are the ones that I donated to them a week before. lol. I am going to go to the St. Vincent's thrift store today to look for a bike. My DH needs one so we can ride together. Julee: Glad that you and FIL had a talk and worked things out. Debi: You are such a sweetie. Thanks. Johnnie: I know what you mean. When I had lost my first 100 pounds I didn't celebrate too much because of how much further I had to go. I just want you to not do what I did. Celebrate my dear. It is a wonderful accomplishment! Toni: Welcome! So glad to have you here. Don't fret about the binge. You were aware and next time it happens hopefully you can stop and not binge as much. Small steps. I have a sister that lives in Montana. She lives in Ronan. It is very pretty there. Ewing: Welcome back. Debbie: congrats on loosing that water weight. You are well on your way hun. Great job getting back op. Hugs to you. Well, I am having a slow day today. It is almost 2 p.m and I am still in jammies!!!! I need to get my butt moving. lol. Blessings all, Annie |
Dogpal, Ronan is not far from here, I am in Plains.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone! |
Debi - I don't know if you've ever frozen squash before, but I never had until a few weeks ago. I'm going to pass along a little info I didn't know. You have to parboil the squash before freezing or it will continue to germinate even in the freezer. The lady that gave me squash is in her 80s and has been growing a garden and freezing and canning for a long time. She told me to bring water to a boil, put the squash in just until it's hot to the touch then drain & freeze.
Toni - Welcome! You will find a lot of inspiration here. Also, you are not the only one to have a secret planned binge. I've had a a couple in the last year and look I've released 100 lbs. I still fight that food comfort and I know I always will, but I find success in having only a few of those binges as opposed to the regular ones I used to do. Ewing - Welcome Back! Debbie & Annie - Thanks for the encouragement, the funky mood has passed and I'm feeling lighter again hehe. |
Yes, texarkgal, putting veggies straight in the freezer without blanching gives you food that tastes like cardboard. We have done it and the compost got all my yukky green beans that year.
|
Hiya Peeps - I seem to be at a loss for words but thinking of you all.
Big hugs, Carol |
Hi guys,
I have quick question about exercise. We got a WII Fit yesterday (yahoo), and I was wondering if you thought it was ok to count it as exercise (in the exercise thread). Some of the things don't completely push me, while others really do. I am trying to sneak in my biking (because anal retentive me doesn't like to miss a goal, and I set a goal at 150 miles this month). But it does make the exercise more fun as well. So far I have done 75 minutes on the WII Fit, including some running, hula hooping, skiing, etc. :) Let me know your thoughts. On the weight loss note, nope, no weight wanting to be lost. I definitely need to cut back the sodium, I just haven't fallen in love with fruit and veggies. :bomb: Oh well, at some point I will put everything together. I hope. Carol - talk to us. I miss you... Take care and be well, Angie |
Toni: I don't know where Plains is, cause I don't know Montana that well. tee hee. I do like it there. I live right next to Coeur d' Alene IDaho so not too far from you guys.
Johnnie: Thanks for the tip. I was over cooking the squash before freezing. Heather: I love your avatar photo! Carol: Hugs and miss you tons. Angie: I would count the wii fit. That is a lot of movement. Any movement is exercise I think. Just my opinion. Blessings all, Annie |
Hey everyone! Don't have time to produce a proper rant right now but I at least wanted to check in and wish everyone a happy healthy week. I'll be back tomorrow :D
P.S. Anyone know how much water is too much? I know there's such a thing as water intoxication and, although I haven't felt anything like that, I've been drinking an awful lot...so just wondering! |
Realist- I wanted to share this recipe with you...I built it on WW.com so I could figure out the exact # of points, but it's packed with vegetables; even my sister (who is NOT a fan of the veggies) loves it.
POINTS® Value: 3 Servings: 8 Preparation Time: 30 min Cooking Time: 30 min Level of Difficulty: Easy Course: main meals Ingredients 1 1/2 Tbsp vegetable oil 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce (the roasted garlic kind is FANTASTIC!) Tsp. Ground ginger Pinch red pepper flakes tsp. Rice wine vinegar (optional) 2 cloves garlice, minced tsp hot pepper sauce 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast (frozen) 10 oz cooked shrimp (frozen) 1 cup broccoli 1 cup cauliflower florets 1 cup carrot(s) 1 bell pepper(s) 1 cup Chinese cabbage (or any variety cabbage) 1/4 cup celery 1 cup snow peas 1 cup yellow summer squash Instructions Thaw chicken and shrimp, and place in a freezer bag or tupperware with teriyaki sauce, ginger, red pepper flakes, minced garlic, hot pepper sauce and a splash of rice wine vinegar. Let marinate for at least 25 minutes. Cut all vegetables into bite-size peices. Heat oil in large pan or wok and add all vegetables except cabbage. Stir-fry until carrots are slightly tender; add cabbage and cook for additional 2 minutes. Transfer into large bowl. Separate chicken from shrimp, and put chicken and marinade into pan; cook until chicken is no longer pink. Add shrimp and reserved vegetables. Heat through and serve over rice. **Rice will add extra points** Note: If you run out of veg. oil and need more moisture to cook the vegetables, use a little low-cal broth |
so just how many times can a person remind themselves to return a phone call over a 3 day period and NOT do it... lol im SO sorry Julee.
I will be in downtown LA on saturday if you want to meet me there :) |
Luan...no worries...I knew you said you were busy. Saturday should work...as long as I have good directions...I'm not a big fan of getting lost downtown :)
|
its pretty easy to find. call me again so i have your number :)
|
Angie -- I have counted wii fit (and ddr) before when I feel like I am getting a workout! Go for it!
Annie -- I like my new avatar too! It's me with a fish I had just scaled and gutted for dinner! I learned a new skill, and it was yummy! |
monica_ I drink a gallon plus per day. Just make sure you are speading it out through out the day. I find I lose much faster when my water intake is really high.
I cant believe its aug 5th already..time sure flies when your having fun!! Yesterday was super hot but today is suppost to be even hotter and more humid 105-110 heat index. My flowers are looking bad..my pansies have died. I cant complain though...i planted them in late march. I think I will get some mums to put in their place. johnnie _around here we are freezing everything without blanching it ...I use to blanch my squash and corn before freezing. The county extension office had an article a few years ago in the paper that blanching isnt necessary . I slice my squash and lay it in a single layer on a cookie sheet and freeze. when it frozen I then bag it in ziplock bags. FOr sweet corn I just shuck and silk it and then wash it good and then place in freezer bags. I have been doing it this way for about 5 yrs now. Its wonderful and much easier. I also cut up bell peppers and onion and freeze them the same way. Its so nice to pull them out in the winter for a meal. |
Good Morning Peeps - my WI this morning was up 1.5 - I think its time to practice what I preach with water intake. In the heat I've not been getting as much water in - oops.
Heather - love the new avatar. Sounds like you had a wonderful time - can't wait to hear/see more. Now (Carol) - move your bodies, drink your water and smile. Hugs to all, Carol |
G'morning!
Heather, luv the new avatar!!! I'm glad you are home safe with wonderful memories :) Realist, I count Wii Fit if I'm doing aerobics or strength. The balance stuff is fun, but I don't get my heart rate up. Hang in there GGG! Monica, my mom was hospitalized for low sodium due to drinking too much water. It's a dangerous thing. New studies are slowly coming out about how much a person should drink. I'm still an advocate of staying hydrated. Just be careful as you approach the gallon mark. Oh, make sure you put that yummy recipe under the recipe thread! Hugs Annie! Your pictures are amazing!!! You look fabbo !! *wolf whistle* Welcome Toni! I'm taking the blackberry coffee cake to work. I enjoyed 2 pieces and that was enough. I'll let the wolves eat the rest (they will eat anything!). Hugs, Ratkity |
There is a local dr here who advises his patients to drink a half ounce for every pound they weigh. I have to drink a large amount due to kidney stones issues. Just be sure to not try and drink it all at once or late in the evening..Dont want to be up all night going to the bathroom.
I think its a hot topic right now and I have even seen a thing on good morning america that said you dont even 64 ounces a day...I know my body needs alot a day. |
After having a good loss last week and it seeming easy...this week im starving. I have had my eggbeaters with veggies and a tomato sliced and toast and im hungry again. I hate days like this..guess I will take the boys for a walk and maybe take my mind off food!
hugs debi |
Peeking in -
Someone asked a few days ago what a 'morab' is - it's a cross between a morgan horse and an arabian horse. Just chiming in on the new avatar HEATHER - It's Great! Finished yesterday in better shape than I have in a long time. I just hit that wall. You know the one: the "I-just-can't-stand-being-this-cumbersome-for-another-minute" wall. I can't STAND to joggle around on top of my poor horse anymore. I picked up 2 quarts of the awesome House Soup at my local chinese restaurant. I know it's WAY high sodium, but I'll take that trade off for a few days to get the sugar and calorie intake under control again. It's SO good I feel like I'm treating myself, but it's all veggies and VERY lean pork, chicken & shrimp. A happy, successful day to everyone. I hope all the job offers, school scholarships, and other successes come thru for everyone who's waiting on them! |
Quick questions on the Wii fit.. Is there a weight limit? I have read its kind of rude.. but I wondered if it does not work over a certain level?
Thanks.. Terri |
Good Morning all,
I just got back from the dentist for a cleaning and check up. All perfect! That makes me happy. I went to get a sugar free/fat free/ cafeine free drink at the local coffee shop and they gave me a sugar one. I then drove it to my hubby. He loves them and I got to see him. Heather: I love, love fish and to fish. It is one of my most favorite things to do. Glad it was yummy. Do you know what kind it was? Carol: Hugs on the gain. Probably water retention. Glad to see your smiling face again. Rat: You crack me up! Debi: Sorry you are having a hungry time. I went through that yesterday. I wonder why we have days like that. Val: Hi there. Glad to see you poke your head in here. Blessings all, Annie |
Oops.
Terri: I was going to say that I think it was 250 but I honestly don't know for sure. Blessings, Annie |
Heather, that's such a cute avatar!! I bet the fresh fish was just yummy.
Carol, sorry to hear about the weight gain, but hopefully with upping your water intake, it will come off quickly. Hang in there! Debi, get some veggies and low fat ranch dressing, and eat some of those. Maybe it will get rid of the hunger. Today I feel more empowered. I just hope I can last the whole day. It seems like the same ol story, Jim goes to work, nighttime comes, my head's in the fridge. Gotta break that terrible habit!! We're starting to get green beans. Can't wait to pick and cook them!! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! Debbie |
WII Fit max weight is 330, but DH (350) and I (342) use it on carpet, where it doesn't read our actual weight. Once I hit 330, I am popping the legs on it so it can read my weight and I can track progress.
Can I ask you all a question. What does low sodium mean to you? How many mg per day? Also, low fat, what does that mean to you. I should make a correction about not liking fruit and veggies, I like them fine raw....just don't find them that snacky. Will work on that. I am at work, so should get back to the grind. Angie |
good morning all or afternoon in my case. i am grumpy today cuz i am retaing water grrr.!
|
ok so yesterday work was tremendous! The classroom I am in has an ajoining bathroom(with shower). We had carpet in our room till spring vacation when they ripped it up and tiled our room........well they didn't get to the bathroom. So they decided to do it last week! Someone thought it would be a good idea to wax our classroom floor again, even though it was done over spring vacation! Well back then when we knew in advance WE packed our room up and stored it in another classroom and WE unpacked our classroom............since we did not know WHEN they were going to do the bathroom.............and definately didn't even think they would rewax our room!!!! THEY packed(if you could call it that!!!!) our entire room & bathroom tossed it all in another classroom till the wax was done.........then just dumped it into our classroom!!! YES I said dumped!! So all day yesterday I was moving shelves and reorganizing the stuff that went on them!!! Our toliet wasn't placed back on the hole they had work still to complete! This morning they showed up and finally finished the toliet!!! (just as the kids were sitting down in their desks)
Sunday night my tooth started hurting.........I took some ibuprofen and used some ambesol...........but yesterday at work it kept getting worse and worse..........so I called the dentist to see if they could squeeze me in.......well not till thursday afternoon!!!! So by the time I got home I was in ALOT of pain.......and it kicked off a migraine!!! So DD drove me into the base to sit in the ER LOL..........I finally told DD to just go home & I would call her when I was done..........I got there a little after 4pm..........took about 45mins till they triaged me............I didn't get called back to see the doctor till 10pm..........called DD to pick me up when I got back there.........since usually I would be done in 30mins after being called back there............WELL not last night! the girls got there around 10:30 and I wasn't released till 12:30!!!! They gave me an IV and some pain meds then sent me home with antibiotics & more pain meds to tide me over till thursday when I can get in to see my dentist! So needless to say today being the first day back for kids.................I was off and on in pain and tired!!! LOL We have one student that apparently(after our very long day with him) needs a one on one assistant! Hopefully tomorrow will go more smoothly! (at least I wont be tired!) Well I'm going to get off here and take some more pain meds and head off to bed! |
Annie -- The fish was labelled "salpa" at the market, but I don't know if that's a local term in Croatia!
|
Aww :grouphug: thank you all for such a lovely warm welcome back. I am indeed posting over on the 40+ thread, but I promise when I have the chance to post over here I will. If only to say hi :D
Take care all, and :thanks: again. Hugs, Ammi :trampo: |
Hi Peeps - I think I've about determined I am overly tired and a little overwhelmed with the things facing me from now until the end of the month. I am trying to take on a one day (hour) at a time and not worry about 3 weeks from now. Tomorrow after working in one of our field offices I will go back to the lake until Friday and I'm hoping to let the cares fade.
I wore the dress posted in the recent pic to work today. It's probably been 10 years since anyone at work has seen my legs - what an uproar along with some nice comments. Thank you all for the hugs and thoughts - we'll get through this too. See you all on Friday - glad to Prof is back to keep you all in line. Battle - are you lurking? Hugs to all - and yes drink your water - lots of it (I'm doing good on the water front too). Carol |
