After a long break and a regaining of the original 70 lbs I lost, (pregnancy, death's, depression, all led to the gain), I'm finally back on track. This time around though, I'm a couple of years older and the energy I once had, despite my size, just isn't there. I also don't have the time I used to have to make it to the gym, track, etc.
What I'm looking for are some easy to follow dvd's. I don't want anything with a bunch of jumping, at 330 pounds, I'm liable to break a kneecap or something! Please don't suggest Billy Blanks and his Tae Bo line. I am far from the most coordinated person and I've tried his stuff in the past. In the end, I never could get the hang of it and I just felt like The Blob flinging myself all over the place. It wasn't a pretty picture and just the thought of a repeat makes me shudder!
If anyone has some easy to follow dance suggestions, that would be awesome.
I also own a Richard Simmons Supersweatin' Party off the pounds ^^ It's a riot, if you don't mind feeling a little cheesy while moving around. It's got a couple little jumps, but you don't have to do those. Just the walking & moving around is enough for me to work up a sweat (and I got the dvd at about 300).
I recommend the walking dvds, Walk away the pounds, I lost about 25 pounds doing that once a day along with a short walk outside daily. It is fairly easy to do even when I was not able to do much. I've also done sweating to the oldies at times. The other day I checked out a dance dvd from the library. Can't rememebr the exact name, Dancing off the pounds maybe. It had different types of dance and a few were very easy to do. I've wondered about the just my size yoga, so let us know how it is maybe? I'm tempted to buy it. Hope you find something that you enjoy and works for you.
I was going to recommend the walking DVD's but I guess they are pretty popular. I do the Tae Bo and the walking DVD's. I kind of thought it was funny what you said about Tae Bo because I like it a lot and don't have any problems with it. There's a dance one from Denise Austin that I tried that was pretty good it's called Burn Fat Fast, there's a cardio dance segment and then there's also a sculpt segment on it, you customize your workout for the day, the dance is pretty much like the mambo and stuff. Hope that helps you out.
Hey!! I have been thinking abotu asking for a sticky thread where people could review different work outs. because I have a hard time too with the ones that require a lot of jumping and things I simply can't do yet!
On of my favorites it Shapely Secrets with Greer Childers. It is 7 minutes and it's all isometrics. I hear a lot of people saying this is not a valid workout, but I have been doing it and it's the only thing that has shown me real results in inches! and you FEEL it. Plus you don't have to MOVE at all, you felx muslces.
Then there isbellydancing for Beginers with rania. I really like this, and i can do everything it requires. there are 5 ten minute workouts for each day of the week and they are great and relaxing. I usually do two or three at once.
Good luck!
Stay away from Sean T's hip hop abs! His Tilt Tuck and tighten method just spelled back pain for me!
I've got Just My Size Yoga, and I highly recommend it! She makes it easy for gals our size to do the poses, and yes you DO sweat a bit!! But you feel SO GOOD afterwards!!
I could have written that OP myself. I lost 56 lbs in 2005 and regained it all plus more due to the same reasons. I felt so unfit this time around (started out again on Jan 7th) I am in the Uk so used a British DVD to get me started. I am now using an old but favourite one of mine, Susan Powter's Bun Fat and get fit. There are a lot of leg and arm moves in it but no jumping and of course she is always reminding the user to modify the moves to suit them. I really love it and it was my main form of exercise when I last did battle with the bulge!
For a gentle workout, I like Crunch: Fat Burning pilates. I used to do that on the days where I wanted to do something but not something intense.
I also really like the Firm workouts as they tend to use weights to bring your heart rate up versus jumping around. I used to do them somewhat modified when I was well over 300 lbs.
I really enjoyed the JMS Yoga Video although I didn't feel I got much of a workout but it was a good start - I love how I felt after. I sometimes incorporate it into the yoga class I take now that is 90 minutes.
It's the only one I've tried but I'm always looking - also if you are a netflix member you can try them out there before buying.
I have a few Richard Simmons ones, BUt I can't get through the whole video so I picked up one at the library and love it!!!! It is Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds but it has a little kick boxing. And I mean a little. I am 350 lbs and I did the whole 30 min on the first try. I am going to buy that DVD cause it is the only one I can finish. It is low impact. ALSO YOU ARESTANDING THE WHOLE TIME! Nothing worse then a video where you gotta switch positions and be on the floor off the floor. Being my size it is too hard ...for now. She has other ones too, my friend has one where its walking for 3 miles.
Thanks all for your suggestions! I reallly appreciate your taking the time to answer. That being said, I did decide on what to buy. I've got Just My Size Yoga, Leslie Sansone's Mile 1 and 2, and Elements: Ballet Conditioning all on their way. Time to get....
