I ended up with 1600 calories today. Yay!
I also have TOM visiting. Must be something in the water ;)

Debbie54 01-15-2008 10:18 PM

Battle, yes I certainly did. I did the evening mile walk which works the legs ALOT. It felt pretty good. I'm having trouble getting motivated to work out some tonight so that's why I'm here....to find the motivation, and I'm sure I will once I read everyones post.
I'm feeling better, thanks for asking, just still have the throat thingy going on.
I'm glad to hear you made it thru the banquet. That's great news and something to be proud of.

Ammi, Yay on the choice to not eat that baquette. I'm sure it tasted awful anyhow. It sounds like you are really stickin' to it.

Story, sorry to hear about the back, but great news about the 13 lbs gone!! That's just wonderful.

Ok, I'm motivated so I'm going to take off and do a WATP DVD.
Have a great night!
Debbie

BattleAx 01-15-2008 11:26 PM

Hey everyone,

For about an hour I didn't think about food at all. NBC11 (local NBC station) news just came to interview me for tonight's 11:00 news. I'm discussing where investors will see the effects of subprime mortgages in their portfolios. I received the call, ran home to change and throw some makeup on, and came back with about 5 minutes to gather my thoughts. I was super-nervous, it wasn't one of my best interviews, but I am happy about the exposure nonetheless.

When I received the call I was thinking about what to eat next, so it saved me from a bad decision!

Let's assume for a minute that the calculator is correct (which they aren't necessarily). The 2400 number is probably your BMR or basic metabolic rate. That is what you would burn if you did absolutely nothing all day. One pound of fat = 3500 calories, so to lose 2 pounds per week you need to have a deficit of 7000 calories. If you burn 2400 just from being alive, add another 600 in for activity you get 3000 per day. If you then eat 2000 per day you have a daily deficit of 1000, which is basically 2 pounds per week. Again, the numbers aren't necessarily 100% accurate, but they are a fairly good approximation. Does that help answer the calorie question?

Battle - That is so cool you are on the news!

Ok - so my plan was to watch the Biggest Loser and then come here and spend some quality time doing personals, but I got distracted by some other things and now it is almost bed time!

I did want to share a funny NSV (non-scale victory for the newer among us). I just bought some new clothes, but there are some of my old items that I don't feel quite ready to give up on yet. They were getting pretty tight at my highest and now they are getting somewhat ridiculous. I mostly wear skirts, so those I have been able to safety pin up. However, recently - like today, I realized that some of my t-shirts (v-necks especially) are getting big enough that I am accidentally showing quite a bit of cleavage. They are somehow gathering up in the front and falling down low enough to be a bit too revealing for my taste. :o I guess I need to either start being a more racy dresser or stop wearing those tops!

Moosegirl 01-16-2008 03:31 AM

Voodoo1 – I am not really following anything, more really just a complete overhaul of my diet. I do kind of follow WW points but only really for snacks and stuff not for main meals which mostly these days contain veggies and salad! I have found so much improvement from just changing simple things and find I am not missing my junk food!

Ggirls – Great weigh in, good luck for the week ahead!

MamaBplus3 – I’ve done that so many times when I write my blog post… I hit esc and lose everything!

Texarkgal – I hope the antibiotics kick in for you, I had the same some years back now I can still remember the pain!

CatherineM – Good luck with the pool, what a fantastic weight loss you have! I am going to consider rejoining the gym next week so I can get to some more exercise!

Heather – Don’t me dishoarded, keep trotting on and you’ll get there!

Debbie54 – Movement is coming, taking a stroll to the supermarket later I’ve run out of fruit and am short on salad!

BattleAx – Yeah Alfie hates the rain but I am happy to take myself off on my own, even by walking off to mum’s or the shops. I am hoping when I am at my Easter mini goal another 40lbs down – 28 to go I will have built up some energy to walk to town!

RealCdn – Yep every little bit of exercise helps, for me I’ve started to leave the car and walk more to the local shops! I feel so much better for it!

Ammni – Yes that was me the girl who slipped on the ice! Yes it’s fine now healed well! How good of you to remember me, gee that was back in 2006 or was it 2005 even I cannot remember! Lol

NotTheCheat – Well done on the NSV, new clothes is always fun! I need some new clothes but I am putting it off till around February when I will head out for some shops!

It’s another rainy day here, I’ve just been contacted by Radio Five Live to ask if I wanted to be on the show this morning to discuss NHS Dentist, I declined since I wouldn’t be able to stop the air being blue…

Have a good day I plan on walking to the shops, I need some organic meat from the local butchers and then to pop to ASDA (Walmart) for some bits!

I also find since I am not longer spending my money on junk food I am buying magazines, I am spending a mere fortune!

BattleAx 01-16-2008 03:57 AM

The story aired. I could have been more animated--my affect was kind of flat (nerves). But, I didn't look that bad. Not unattractive. Very fat, but not shockingly fat. Last time I was on tv, I was horrified at my appearance. I looked like a balloon ready to explode. Not being horrified this time is a major step in the right direction.

MamaBplus3 01-16-2008 09:01 AM

Good Morning!! :coffee:

Battle: I am glad you feel better about how you looked on TV...we can be so hard on ourselves!!

Moosegirl: I love, love, love Walmart !!

Heather_dw: I know from being on WW that you need to eat the right amount of calories to burn calories...I try to stay at 2000 to burn 2lbs a week.

Nancy: I am finding that my tops are getting longer as I am decreasing in the "boobage" area...which makes me happy because I wont wear a top that doesn't cover my belly. I just have to make sure I am not flashing too much!! :yikes:

Debbie: I have the WATP video that does a 1 mile then a 2 mile with the ball weights. I think it is pretty old because I am usually concentrating on her really weird eyebrows instead of what she is saying. :dizzy: I haven't done it in a long while as my foot problems are still abounding. I am going to have Doug find my Gazelle in the abyss that we call the garage, since he has to clean it up for the weight machine anyway. I may not see him for a week, but I can always send the dog out to find him. She never leaves his side!!!

Catherine: Awwwwwwwww...he is so cute!! But really, tell him not to try that because Sammi did it to me once :p and I would rather change a poopy diaper anyday than have that happen again!!! :fr:

Well, TOM is still MIA, and I am getting cranky and annoyed. Doug had his sleep test last night and came home just when the kids were getting off to school, so he really threw me off and I forgot to WI before breakfast. I must remember to do it tommorrow! I am feeling totally bloated and maybe it was subconsious?? :?:

Have a Great OP Day!! :cheer2:

toofatforu 01-16-2008 11:13 AM

just popping in here to say hi.. i am still doing pretty good .. need to do just a teeny bit better and i am still hopping on and off the gazelle!

heather_dw 01-16-2008 01:20 PM

Hi gals. How are you all doing today? I'm hanging in there. Staying OP is so much easier after a few weeks have gone by. I'm contemplating doing the WATP one mile. I used to be able to do the 2 mile but I think I want to do 1 mile every day this week to get used to it again.

battle: Good for you! I hate hate hate seeing pictures of video of myself. It's ery cool that you can feel so much better about yourself than you used to!

Moosegirl: It really is crazy how much that little changes here and there can do so much. It's pretty much how I lost weight a few years back. I think the trick for was changing slowly as to not overwhelm myself.

NotTheCheat: Hmm,.. that does make sense. I just saw fitday's numbers and it just seemed so high :D I'm trying to go low but not too low. It's an odd balance.

debbie54: Ugh, I hear you. Exercise is usually where I slack off. Probably because it's the hardest for me to do. If we can just tough it out, it will get easier and easier for us!

goingtolose200: How was the weigh in?

TheStorysofar: ouch :( Is your back feeling any better today?

RealCdn: I tend to lurk alot too. I find that when I'm feeling worst about myself, I close up and shut the world out.

AmmiUk: Ugh, I hate when hubby does that. Mine needs to lose weight and he says he will, but he hasn't really cut out all of his junk yet. If I nag him, it will push him more over onto the "bad food side" so I'm hoping that he'll take my actions as some sort of encouragement. I know what you mean though, sometimes it can be so hard when bratty hubby is sitting there eating something that looks so goood.

Debbie54 01-16-2008 02:02 PM

Battle, Congrats on the tv time. That must of been really exciting!!

Nancy, I've been noticing the same thing with some of my tops. I gotta admit, it feels good in a naughty sort of way.
Mind you, I'm the president of the "Itty Bitty Titty" committee.

Alison, what kind of magazines are you buying? I love to get the fitness ones and imagine myself looking that good. Only a pipe dream, but it still makes ya want to work out.

Donna, I think you're right that it's an old one. The one I have is where she is walking by herself. It's the evening mile with leg work. I have about 7 different ones of hers. I sorta get bored with them though and go back to the DDR. Probably will do that tonight. Good luck on finding the gazelle.

Heather Dw, I still haven't advanced to the 2 mile either. I get so bored with it actually that I start concentrating on the time rather than the exercise. I lose interest too fast. I dunno, maybe I have the attention span of a peanut.

I DID go workout after being on here last night, so thanks for the motivation ladies. I'm still OP, and actually got all my water in yesterday, was peeing like a race horse, but got it all in. Today feels like another great day. Wow, exercise and OP, it's been a long time coming.
Have a OP, water drinking, movin' kick A** day!!
Debbie

BattleAx 01-16-2008 03:53 PM

Hi everyone,

I've already eaten a lot today, but with effort, can still come in on plan. I think coming down from the nerves of last night had an effect on my eating. I have to remember that there are better ways to regroup.

Donna: it is doubly miserable when TOM is due but decides to delay his arrival. I hope TOM comes soon and you can get back to normal. If you feel bloated, it probably won't hurt to wait on WI for a few days.

Nancy, you wild woman, you! Hehe. I know about the shirts coming down way more than they used to in the front. It's kind of a funny fashion statement--a tent-like look with a plunging neckline.

Debbie: I also grow bored and impatient with the WATP, but actually it's with all of the exercise videos. I can only stand a max of the 2 mile walk, 30 minutes, before I start screaming for mercy. The only exercise activities that don't make me feel this way are walking/hiking and biking. The scenery keeps me actively interested.

Hi to Moose, heather dw, toofat, and everyone else!

going to lose 200 01-16-2008 05:48 PM

Only have I moment. Was only down .5 this week. Kinda sucks. Kinda cranky now. On to bigger and better weigh ins next week!

jar1965 01-16-2008 05:51 PM

Hi everyone! Just a quickie to let you know I was thinking of you! I started resistant bands today! 40 minutes! Och!

Debbie54 01-16-2008 08:45 PM

Jim and I walked down to the mail box today. It's probably 1/2 mile total. It was pretty cold out but felt really good. Then we came back and did 2 hours on the DDR but I only claim 1 hour of it since Jim and I alternate between songs. All in all, I think we got some good exercise in. Still OP. We made veggie pizza tonight for dinner and it was pretty good. I try not to eat too much bread products so I only had 2 pcs of a 8 pc pizza, which is within my calorie limit. It sure was good!

Battle, I feel the same way about the videos. I'd much rather be outside in the fresh air. I hope to get my bike this year. I wanted one last year but we just never had the money for the kind that we want, so I'm hoping for this year. Maybe with our tax return.
Hope you can rein in your eating and stay within your calorie limit. Heck, I know you can.

Brenda, .5 is better than nothing, like me this week. I'm sure a better loss is in store for both of us next week.

Jeanne, aren't the bands fun? I love working with them.Keep up the good work.

Have a good one
Debbie

CatherineM 01-16-2008 08:47 PM

Today's our anniversary. I made goat and couscous from scratch, not that pre-steamed stuff out of a box. So I spent the afternoon fluffing it so it wouldn't stick together. You steam it over the goat as it cooks, so I spent the afternoon also smelling that. Right now normal things don't smell good to me so you can imagine what the goat smelled like. I sure didn't want any of it. Himself loved how it smelled, and ate enough for the both of us. I'm the one supposed to be eating for two instead of him. He will definitely have to go to the pool with me.

gggirls 01-16-2008 09:02 PM

Hi All - snowing and feeling like I want to hibernate. So what did we do - go eat Chinese - no we both are not feeling so great - DH is really sick after just a 10 minute ride home from the restaurant and I'm really quesy. Other than that a great day! It's a heavy snow so very pretty to look at.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Hugs,
Carol

Realist 01-16-2008 09:09 PM

Hi all,

I have lost 4.5 pounds this week, so I am happy about that. I am getting closer to 350 (bleh), but it's progress. Just gotta keep doing it. I feel like two pounds per week isn't asking that much, but sometimes my actions aren't aligned. Go figure.

Anyway, gotta run.

Angie

dogpal 01-16-2008 09:21 PM

Battle: Congrats on the TV appearance not being as bad as it has been in the past. Wonderful progress.

Ammi: I am eating max at one time 1/4 to 1/2 cup. closer to 1/4 at once. Great job staying op.

Annie

kayleystar 01-16-2008 10:37 PM

*sigh* I just looooooove being on that TOM. No matter HOW much I eat, my stomach is still growling, and chocolate. Oh man. I'm sure I won't see a loss this week. Oh well. Hopefully it will be gone shortly, and I can go back to normal. :P

Annie - I have to wait to hear back about my test results (background check & drug test), and then they'll schedule my training. :)

Moosegirl 01-17-2008 03:24 AM

BattleAx – I once appeared on TV, back in 2001 for a chat show in the UK, I hated it, well I hated the way I looked I still did nothing about my weight though!

Donna – Tell me about TOM, I am wondering if mine will show next week, since I have PCOS and she appeared last month at Christmas after MIA for 11 months, wondering if the added weight loss will make her more regular…. We shall see!

Heather – Good look with doing the mile, I am really hoping to take part in a seven mile walk in London in July, not committed yet to it, it depends how much more I can lose between now and say May as to whether I feel fit enough to do it!

Debbie – I am buying anything from cheap weekly ones to monthly glossy ones, I prefer my monthly glossy’s like Marie Clar, Cosmo, Zest and anything else that takes my fancy! It’s costing me a small fortune but at the same time I have more money since I am not buying junk food! Lol

Catherine – That sounds good!

Carol – I really want a proper snowfall, I love snow makes it really feel like winter…

Angie – Well done on the loss, that’s excellent not be long now till you reach your goal!

Annie – Good luck with the official weigh in tomorrow…

Well I got my first official NSV… I have two pairs of jeans in the wardrobe that I bought over two and half years ago that never ever fitted me, I could get them on but I couldn’t get them over my belly… so I decided yesterday to dig them out and try them on and they fit! I couldn’t believe it so I shall be wearing them tomorrow for the first time, I’ve not worn jeans for over 14 years! Here’s hoping in another six week or so they will be too big!

As for the radio stuff yesterday, later on at lunch time I got a call from the BBC News Studio asking me if I wanted to appear on my local news to discuss the issues raised… ermmm NO AND NO! Once was bad enough, I didn’t care they where going to send a car and pay me my expenses!

By the way I have a blog all about my weight loss journey so here is the link if anyone wants to read - Shut Your Cakehole

ZedAus 01-17-2008 07:10 AM

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick post before heading off to bed. I have finally realised that I have to face the truth and change my ticker. I have been sitting around 175lbs for long enough now and I can't keep kidding myself that it is just 'hormonal weight' any more. It goes down now and then, but it is up more than it is down. I don't care whether it was the depression earlier in the year when my dad died, or the depression meds (that I am currently decreasing, ready to stop) that caused the weight gain. I am pretty sure that it is probably due to the fact that I am simply eating just a little too much each day. Healthy stuff, but maybe bigger portions than I used to have. I know I am still exercising as much as I was, so I'm not really sure about the cause, but I am going to 'wear' it for now and work on getting it down again.

I increased my goal from 150lbs to 160lbs, as I have to account for all of the excess skin I have and I am not sure I should get down too low. I was going to make my goal 165lbs, as that is where most people say that I should be and where I look best at, as they said I looked too gaunt at 160lbs. I just want to aim a little lower to see how I go. If I end up at 165lbs and am happy there, then I will adjust my goal weight and simply say "I'M DONE!"

People say that they can't tell that I have put on any weight, and sometimes I get asked if I have lost more weight, if I am wearing something particularly flattering. But I can feel the extra pounds. I find this funny, because I couldn't feel an extra 30 or 40 pounds before, so it is interesting that I can notice an additional 5 or 10.

Well, there is my confession. I am still leading a VERY healthy lifestyle, but I obviously have to tweak a few things to get the scale heading down a little, rather than sneaking up.

Take care and I'll catch you with a longer post soon.

Zelma

gggirls 01-17-2008 07:15 AM

Morning all - everyone feeling much better around here except for the leftover sodium from the Chinese. All the schools are cancelled due to the weather today which also means my cardio class is cancelled - I will come home and dust off the treadmill though and maybe even get the WATP video out.

Jeans seem to be a major NSV for a number of us recently - like Battle I had told others (mostly myself) that I wasn't a jeans kind of person. HA! One more storyline we feed ourselves. Great job moosegirl.

I had my own little NSV this week - my dress pants no longer need to be unzipped or unbuttoned to put them on. Yes - they are too long too. I seem to be whiny lately about not losing very fast but it seems not so very long ago that I was not so comfortable in these same pants.

Gotta run - may be a little longer drive (than the normal 4 minutes) to work this morning.

Move yourselves, drink your water AND smile!!!

Hugs,
Carol

texarkgal 01-17-2008 10:38 AM

Good Morning Everyone!

I am finally feeling back to myself today and will see the dentist tomorrow and hopefully he can fix it or just pull it. Anything not to have to go through that pain again . Thank everyone for your get well wishes.

I haven't felt like posting, but I have been lurking and keeping up with everyone. The board is moving so fast these days I'm not going to try to catch up to personals today, just suffice it to say cheers for all that have lost lbs or experienced NSVs, commiseration for all that are struggling (we are all there at one time or another) and sympathy for so many of you suffering TOM. The common theory is that women that work or live together eventually have the same cycle for TOM, I wonder if this applies to our board members too :joker:

I do have a question for you all though. Has anyone experienced lower back pain when walking at the outset of your program? I am trying to walk more to gain stamina and be able to exercise more, but after a few minutes I get severe pain in my lower back & have to sit for a few minutes before continuing. I thought it would get better as I lost weight and now that I have lost 60 lbs it has only gotten marginally better. Due to my rheumatoid arthritis I have had both knees and one hip totally replaced and the other hip needs to be done also since it is bone on bone. So it's hard for me to determine if my trouble comes from the RA and it's associated problems, the weight, or a combination of the two. Also, I am hunched over and cannot seem to stand up straight. I'm hoping that as I lose more of the bulk in my stomach area this will improve.

Has anyone had any of these problems? As I read the boards and see the amount of exercise most of you can do, it gets me a little depressed, even though I am aware that because I have RA and 20 - 30+ years on most of you, I cannot expect to do the same things or get the same results. I would really be interested in your feedback, since I'm trying to formulate some realistic goals for myself.

Thanks in advance for your advance & wishing everyone a great OP day!

RealCdn 01-17-2008 01:29 PM

Johnnie,

I started just over where you were, but I wasn't doing any regular exercise. At the time I had a job where I was on my feet everyday though, so I might have been more used to it. I'm a little higher than you are at the moment, and although sometimes I have a little ache in my lower back, there's no pain.

I'll make one suggestion, and if that isn't it, you might want to see your doctor about it. How are the shoes you're wearing when doing your walking? I ask, because I first started with generic runners and found I had lots of random pains. A friend suggested that I go get a proper pair, for walking. Around here we have a store called "The Running Room". I just looked, but they are mainly Canada and only a few stores in the US (mainly MN).

Ask around where you live. It's intimidating, at least for me it was, going to a store that seems to push running. However, they are great. When I bought my shoes I was asked to go in my stocking feet, roll up my trousers, and walk up and down the store. The guy asked if I would be walking inside, or outside, and eventually I tried on 5 or 6 different shoes. If I remember, they were expensive, but they are perfect.

I only mention the process for buying them because you want a store that does the same type of thing. I was amazed what a difference it made.

FitGirlForLife 01-17-2008 02:06 PM

Carol, Ammi, Debbie, and Annie - Thanks for you warm thoughts about my niece. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders - and my sister is positively joyful.

Hugs  to those of you who understood and supported my scale avoidance for the week. I have been OP all week.

Ammi - way to go avoiding temptation . I'm finding that I just can't go out to restaurants to eat right now. Even if the food is healthy, the portion sizes are so big. When the food is right in front of me, I have trouble resisting.

Carol, Donna, and Moosegirl (and I think I missed somebody) - Woo Hoo for shrinking bodies and clothes that suddenly fit - or are maybe now too big.

BattleAx - keep looking to those pants for inspiration. I have a whole dream box of clothes. Some of the items in that box are from the late 1980s - those fashions will probably have come around again by the time that they fit me again.

Angie - Celebrate those 4.5lbs.:carrot:

Zelma - Being mindful of keeping the weight off really is a life long issue for most of us. When I lost so much weight a few years ago, I really thought that was it for me.

Heather - I so know how you feel. I lost over 80lbs a few years ago and then gained it all back plus some. When I lost that weight, I felt so empowered and was certain that I would never regain it. I try to tell myself that I am where I am and accept that in the present. And I am encouraged that if I did lose the weight once then I can do it again. I bet you can too. I try to keep my calories under 1500 even when I exercise - it's hard though - I keep hitting 1700-1800.

Johnnie - About your back, When I first started exercising, I felt a lot of lower back pain. Stretching my hamstrings and strengthening my abdominals solved my lower back problems. I do agree with Anne about the importance of good shoes and especially about checking in with a doctor.

Kimmie

FitGirlForLife 01-17-2008 02:09 PM

Oh and how could I forget Catherine - I'm so happy to hear your news :preg: and so sorry to hear that you feel so rotten.

Kimmie

BattleAx 01-17-2008 02:37 PM

Morning peeps! Today is another day to be on plan. Let's shake it up and move around! Let's drink our water and eat healthy, nutritious foods.

Zelma: good luck on tweaking the program to take off the creeping weight. You are smart to acknowledge it now and take action before the scale creeps any further.

Carol: the first time my pants got too long I was surprised and confused. I couldn't figure out why they were dragging on the ground. Once I figured it out, I was amused...and happy. There is nothing like the headiness of going down in size.

Texark: I also think the lower back pain is related to stiff muscles and lack of core strength. I found that some stretching was a must in order to do the walking. I use a Pilates DVD, which has both stretching and core strengthening components. Only a little is needed to feel better. When I first started the DVD I could barely do any of it, but the little bit I could helped a lot with being able to move around comfortably. The DVD I have is Denise Austin and it has the pilates workout plus a yoga workout, which I never do. I still only do about 15-20 minutes of the pilates workout, but it's enough to make a huge difference.

Also, at my highest, I found that fitness walking was very hard on my body. As the weight came off, my legs and back were more able to handle the exercise.

As RealCdn said, the shoes are important as well. This is an area you just can't skimp on.

FitGirl: It is good that you know your limits about what kind of situations you can handle right now. For me, I can't avoid restaurants, banquets, big spreads of delectable foods because of my professional and social obligations, so have made it a goal to manage the best I can in those situations. Sometimes I'm more able to manage than others. But, there are other things I simply must avoid--like having certain foods in the house.

heather_dw 01-17-2008 02:52 PM

I was going to wait and do weigh ins on Fridays but the scale was taunting me. I was feeling all happy because I have exercised 4 days in a row. I never do that. I always have one day on one day off, etc etc.

The stupid scale first said 333, then 334 then 336... argh.. what is it? :( I don't know how I could possibly have gained. Calories have been watched for 2 weeks and the exercise this week.

Catherine, Happy Anniversary!!

Carol, Is the shock to your system of the chinese food or do you guys have food poisoning? I hope it's not that. Hope you feel better soon. Another great NSV. Seems quite a few of you are sharing those this week. Keep it up! I'm glad it was only the salt that was making you feel icky.

Angie, great news on the pounds lost! :woohoo:

Annie, I hope you have a great WI. I jumped on the scale today just to see if I've lost any since TOM is over, and I'm down to 299! Tomorrow I WI officially since I changed it from Tuesdays. Good luck to you!!

Alison, those are great mags! Yes, I think you made a good choice on mags over food. Keep it up! Great job on the NSV too!

Zelma, you should have that off in no time! You've done so well. I bet you look smashing!

Johnnie, I've had a lot of lower back pain when I start an exercise regimen. When I first started doing the DDR, I was down for a week because of the pain in my back. Ratkity says it could be from our hamstrings, or hamhocks.... that aren't stretched properly. So make sure you stretch before and after your exercises. I don't know it that's what it could be for you, but it sure did make a difference for me once I started stretching.

Heather dw, are you sure you're getting enough water in? I drink about 4 liters a day. I'm using the bathroom alot, but I just think of it as the pounds being flushed away. What kinds of foods are you eating? Do they contain alot of fat? You can still stay under the calorie limit and still eat alot of fat. That's what I found I was doing when I wasn't losing. Have you had your thyroid checked? If it's underactive, that could put a dent in your weight loss. Hope this helped some.

I tried on my size 24 jeans and they fit. Not even tight. I guess I need to let go of the 28's as they are able to take off without unzipping now. I hate to see them go. I also have a coat that is huge on me now, so I guess I'd better get rid of it too. Time to start another bag of "too big" clothes. Feels good and scary all at the same time.
Have a good day!
Debbie

Heather - step away from the scale! I know it can be hard to do. Make sure you're tracking your calories well. When I cook something I either measure or weigh everything. No eyeballing allowed. Things that can kill you are salad dressings (ie. is it really a Tbsp), and oils/butters. First, ensure that what you think you are eating is what you are. Then keep track of how much exercise you are doing. Debbie made an excellent point (water, water, water). If you aren't drinking enough your body will retain it. I've just recently started tracking my intake and it's 11 cups a day (and this doesn't count water from protein shakes).

So, make sure your calorie tracking is accurate. Keep exercising, and don't get on the scale until NEXT Friday. ;-)

Oops - I meant to add - pat yourself on the back for 4 days of exercising in a row!

heather_dw 01-17-2008 07:00 PM

I'm getting about 48-70 ounces of water a day and I'm low low on fat. Hubby thinks the scale is just crap since it gives you different numbers each time.

RealCdn 01-17-2008 09:00 PM

Heather - your husband could be right. With a good scale you should be able to get the same weight most of the time, no matter where you stand. With a mediocre scale you need to make sure you're standing in exactly the same place.

If you can't recreate the same weight (ie. stepping on and off say two or three times) you might solve your problems with a new scale. One warning - don't freak out if the new scale weighs higher!

I'm heading out soon to a great Vietnamese restaurant. I have a fair amount of calories left for the day, so with careful choices I can make this work. I have an additional incentive today because I can feel that my system wants to go into an allergic response, and will take very little encouragement to do that. Overeating, or eating certain trigger foods, will guarantee that I'm going to have a problem. Additionally, the benadryl I'll take as a precaution will decrease my appetite.

I hate that I'm at the point where everyone sees the weight loss, knows I'm trying, and is watching what I eat. Oh well, this is one of the things that happen along the way.

Debbie, WOO HOO on fitting comfortably into size 24. Wow! Also, big WOW on reaching that all-important milestone of 299. YAY!

:^: Hi all,

Kayley: Thanks for letting me know. I have been thinking about you and starting your new job.

Moosegirl: I myself know just what you are feeling about wearing jeans. I just wore them for the first time in 19 years last weekend. It was a great feeling. :carrot:

Zelma: Sorry that you had to change your ticker to the plus. Don't under estimate the weight of extra skin! No amount of exercise will get rid of that extra weight. Hugs.

Carol: :bravo: on the smaller pants. Great NSV.

Johnnie: I used to have such bad back pain when I first started walking. I weighed a lot more than you but, it was the initial start of exercise that took quite a while for my back to get better and stronger.

HeatherDW: I think maybe you are weighing too much. Just a tiny bit of water can make your weight change. Maybe try to only weigh once a week for a while. I have jumped on the scale a few times a week and it can get discouraging to see it climb when you know you are doing everything right. If you wait a week and are doing everything right I'm sure it will change.

Debbie: :cp::hat::dance::dancer::cloud9::woohoo::cheer2::c ongrat: So proud of you for gettin out of the 300's forever! You rock. Size 24 aint too shabby either.

Okay. For my official weigh in today I also reached 299 pounds. I am thrilled with that weigh in and it just seems so unreal. It has been over 19 years at least since I was at this weight. I am going to set my next goal at 10% of what I weigh right now I think. That would be about 29 pounds. I think my next goal will be 270. I have to think about it but I am pretty sure that is what I'm aiming towards.

I hope you are all doing well.

Blessings,
Annie

A huge cheer for you, Annie! I've been watching your ticker drop. :cheer2:

WOOOOO HOOOOOOO to Annie and Debbie saying good buy to the 300’s forever. You both have so much to be proud of. I’m sure you are beaming - I know I am for you!!!

Battle - enjoy your evening - everyone is watching you - not because of what you are eating but because of your confident manner and grace.

Heather DW - I’d say go buy a new scale - in last weeks thread there were several great deals on what sounded to be good scales. We used to have one that depending on where you sat it there would be as much as a 10 pound fluctuation. As a fellow “show me” resident I know you want it and want it NOW. Anne gives good advice - if the scale tempts you - hide it - give it to the neighbor - put it in the trunk of the car - whatever you have to do - get it away from you. I personally have to be accountable to the iron monster every single day - I can rationalize too much if I don’t log each days weight (first thing in the morning). Next thing you know it’s weigh in day and I’m clueless as to why it says what it says. You have to be prepared to handle the normal fluctuations though if you do this.

Debbie - I’m not sure what it was. Ed was really sick and we pretty much ate the same thing. Thanks for your hugs. We got your silly snow - did you send this arctic cold too - right now it is 7 outside and supposed to drop lower.

Johnnie - sorry to hear your back is bothering you with exercise. Sounds like you have received much great advise regarding stretching and proper shoes. I had to laugh when you said you have all the years on us - you make me a teenager again nearly - and I’ve decided I don’t wanna go back so I will stand tall and proud at 50. BTW - so glad to hear your tooth is better - do you know what the plan will be tomorrow when you visit the dentist? Hugs to you my friend.

Zelma - we posted at the same time this morning and I wanted to respond but was running a bit late with the snow and all. You are such an inspiration to me - your strength, your wisdom, your confidence and your ability to teach - not just your students but me too! I have learned so much from you - and now I learn again - as I watch you deal with this latest set of circumstances.

Hi Anne, Kimmie, Heather, Nancy, RK, Cyn, Donna, Patti, Brenda, Jeanne, Catherine, Angie, Kayley, Moosegirl, Ammi, Sharon, Story, Donna, Sandy, Colleen, Brandnewme and anyone else I may have missed or is lurking. Hope you are all doing well.

Today was a so-so day for me. Food wise I came in at 1515 calories - but it wasn’t calories I liked - too much processed food - kasha bar, tv dinners for lunch and dinner, etc. Gonna have to get motivated tomorrow to do a bit of cooking. Lunch is much easier when there is a pot of soup just waiting to be heated up. I did not exercise tonight as I had promised myself - gonna have to figure that one out.

Hugs to you all,
Carol

Hmm,.. any suggestions for scales? I think the issue is trying to get one that weighs high enough for a good price. :D

Debbie54 01-17-2008 11:31 PM

Heather DW, I was just wondering if it gives you different weights if you get on it, get off it, and get on it again. Ours was doing that too and we ended up needing a new scale. I was getting so frustrated with the other one I wanted to throw it thru the window. So check it out, and maybe it needs a new battery? Who knows. Just keep movin', drinking that water and counting calories. It WILL come off!!
I got my scale at Walmart and it was about 25 bucks and weighs up to 350. It also keeps track of how much I lose and a goal weight.

Battle, hope all went well at the restaurant. You do so well on knowing what your next social engagement is and make allowances for it. I have trouble just going out once every two weeks and how to manage it. You're awesome!

Annie, :woohoo: :congrat: on getting below 300!!! Ain't it a great feeling? I wrote it in my food diary with stars all around it. YAY for us!!!! I was thinking of going for 275 myself, 25 at a time isn't too overwhelming.

Carol, ooooo enjoy that lovely white stuff!!! We don't get enough here. It's pretty cold here too but no where near 7. Thanks for being so proud of Annie and I. It means alot. Sometimes the body just needs a rest, so I'm sure one day isn't going to hurt you. Just don't slack off too many days in a row. Bob Greene was on Rachel Ray yesterday and said the worst thing you can do when trying to lose weight, is exercise one day and then miss a few, which I'm guilty of sometimes. He says we need to exercise at least 5 days a week to keep it going.
Hope Ed is feeling better.

Well, I don't believe it, but, I have TOM AGAIN!! It was gone for a couple days and now it's back. I think I've had it about 3 weeks in a row, off and on. Maybe it's menopause, I dunno. I just hope it doesn't send me back up into the 300's. I will be totally P O'ed. I've been so good on my eating, exercising, and drinking water. So wish me luck.
My poor Sadie dog sprung her back I think. She went chasing the llama again and came back in moving very slow. So I've been babying her. Geeze, one dog has messed up ears, another dog has arthritis, and now Sadie with her back. They sure are having a rough time. Thank goodness the cats are doing fine.
Have a great night and keep up on doing the great work for those of you losing, and big  to those struggling.
Debbie

Heather 01-17-2008 11:33 PM

Annie -- I never get tired of rooting for you! :cheer2:

Zelma -- I feel I'm in a similar place to you. I've been stuck around this weight for a year. I know I can lose more, if I want, but I do eat a little too much a little too often. Mostly healthy choices for me too... and lots of exercise.

I have really realized that I need to be mindful on a regular basis or I will gain weight!

Good luck getting to your goal! I'm not brave enough to set one!

RealCdn 01-17-2008 11:49 PM

Carol - I should admit that I weigh myself daily at the moment as well. The scale is very accurate (in .2 increments) but I don't freak out when I see it move up a bit. And I only count true losses in my official weekly weigh-in.

Heather - I bought one at our local Costco back in December. It's a Taylor (never heard of them), but it was the only one that went to 400 lbs that they had in the store. You will probably be okay with something that goes up to 350 - but be warned that the closer a scale is to it's upper limit, the less accurate it is. (This is probably a really stupid warning, but I was responsible for scale calibrations at my last place of employment, and tolerances are often wider at the top end of the range. Although I'm talking about scales used for commerce, I'm not sure the same applies for bathroom scales.)
