Height: 5'9"

Default what size

I am buying my sister some clothing for Christmas, but she says she has not bought women's clothing for years and told me she wears a 2xt - I told her that is what I wear (I am 260) - she is over 300 pounds and is 6 ft tall. I do not know what size to buy her. Can anyone help me?

Thanks

How about giving her a gift certificate to a store that sells Queen size clothing? That way you can't miss on the size.

That would be nice, except she is very ill and lives in another state. She is too weak to leave the house lately.

You might have to ask advice at the store on sizes. Do you have an Avenue, Fashion Bug or Lane Bryant ? Sears also carries Queen sizes. I found with Lane Bryant, even at 206 pounds their clothing was to long for my 5'2" . they might be a good choice. Also the Blair Catalog might be a source as they have large sizes.

Just to give you an example how sizes and weights vary...

I'm 5'6" and weight 232 .. my size is an 18.

My sister (very similar build) is 5'4" and she weighs 200 and is a size 18.

Inches do make a big difference even with similar builds. Your sister very well could be a 2XL long.

Luv,
Ratkity

I am nearly 6' and when I was 328 I was in a 3x in most clothes. You might try getting something that is supposed to be loose, like tunic-type tops in the 2x she says she wears. By that I mean, something that runs big, then there would be some "wiggle-room".

sizes by weight are hard because of body composition...with her height I would guess size 22/24...but thats just an estimate...apple or pear shaped makes a huge difference too in women's clothes.

It's just not possible to determine what someone's size is from a height and weight. I've seen people post on here that weigh within 10 lbs of my starting weight, and I wore a size 30 and they wear a size 22/24. Apparently we were built very differently. If she is sure of her size, I would get what she tells you. If she's unsure, could she send you her measurements? All plus size clothing store websites have a size chart.

I agree with Lilion, when in doubt, get her something with "wiggle room". They make some very cute tunic tops nowadays, if that's her style.
