Default Do people always seem to weigh lot less than you'd think?

People always underestimate how much I weigh - not that I allow a lot of people to guess. I am thinking more about the nurse at the doctor's office who always acts suprised, or starts the scale at the 150 mark and slowly slides up as if there is any chance in **** that I weigh between 150 and 200.

Anyway, we had a guest this weekend for thanksgiving that I always assumed weighed more than me. Never thought that much about it, but just assumed. He appears to be much larger than me, and certainly wears clothes that are much much larger than my size. He tried out the scale in our bathroom and came out beaming and saying he was down to 265! I was floored and shocked that I weigh more than him!

I've had this same experience before with thinking people must weigh more than what they do. I guess everyone just wears their weight differently so some people look heavier than than are, and some look lighter than they are. My fat is pretty evenly distributed, but the guy who I was talking about above wears it all in his belly and face. His arms and legs, though, are scrawny... so I am guess that is why is weight is lower than I'd expect.

I don't know the point of this post. Just depressed and venting I guess. It's depressing when you see someone that you are sure you are smaller than, and it turns out that you outweigh them by 40 lbs.

Thanks for listening.

Oh i know. That is so depressing. My dad weighs less than me and i consider him "a big guy". He is 240. He even wears a smaller size pants than me. Really makes me feel HUGE. Of course, i am huge i guess, but you hate to feel huge next to "the big guy".
Why do the nurses always start it out at the 150 bar? They do that to me too. I think it must because they would rather underestimate than over estimate. I mean come on...they weigh people ALL DAY LONG...surely they know "about" what a patient's weight is.

What really gets me is when I compare myself to those of the same height and size, and find out that despite appearances to the contrary, they actually DO weigh less than me! There have been folks that I've seen and could've sworn weight so-and-so, and it turns out they weighted less than I thought. Honestly, you just gotta reprogram yourself to quit doing that, and to just focus on your own goals and weight loss. In the end, it's how you feel about yourself that matters, not about anyone else's.

when I go to the doctors and the nurse puts the weight on 150 I spare them the theatrics and just say you need to go up to the 250 rung at least. haha

also I do know what you mean like when I watch the biggest loser the initial weigh ins I think I look a lot smaller than some of the girls then they weigh in and i am 30-50lbs heavier than then. I guess it depends on height/muscles mass/distribution etc.

I long for the day when my weight does not consume my day!

I know I am the same way & it does tend to get depressing. Especially with my husband. I'm a pear shape and he is an apple. His pants are too small for me (though he is catching up to me) and I outweigh him by 75 pounds but he looks so much bigger than me. Maybe I'm just fooling myself by thinking I don't look bad but I really do. I dunno... my day is coming though... I just have a problem waiting for it...

Thanks for understanding...

I don't know if I am just kidding myself, maybe it was just a reality check that I needed. I guess I'd rather have a high weight but look like I have a lower weight than have a lower weight but look like I weigh more... although I'd rather just look like average weight and actually be at average weight.

I agree that some of the Biggest Loser weights shocked me. Have you guys ever seen Fat March? There was one woman on the show who they dubbed a "former softball player" and she weighed more than any of the other women - but I thought she looked like one of the slimmest. She expressed suprise on the show that she was the highest - and I totally felt for her. She was definitely the one that I could relate to. I always saw a couple episodes, so I don't know how things worked out for her weight-loss wise. Maybe that old mantra "muscle weighs more than fat" is true.

I might ask the nurse to "spare me the drama" next time and just start the scale at at least the 250 mark. That is always such an agonizing climb up the scale.

Here's a thought about your friend -- do you know he was telling the truth about HIS weight?? Haven't we all 'fudged' the truth at one point or another?? I wouldn't believe anyone's license weight, fer instance!

Height makes SUCH a difference and you can't really tell how tall someone is and in pictures/tv if they aren't standing next to something/someone else to give you perspective. I look at other people my weight who are taller than me and they look so much smaller!

I really don't have much of a clue. The woman I work with says she is a plus size and she looks so small to me. It isn't that I am accusing her of lying, but it just blows my mind. She isn't super skinny, but she doesn't seem that big to me.

OK FIRST OFF...I sooooo know how you feel about the whole nurse at the office. I don't know if they are "required" to start at 150 lol or if they just don't pay attention. But its like yeah WHATEVER!!

My family is well..my family and we crack jokes about everything! And one time they were saying something about over weight people and and can't tell you the specifics..but anyhow..I looked at them and said HELLO yall I am 345 pounds..and my Aunt looked at me and said we dont think of you that way..LMFAO! I was like huh?? And my uncle said there is no way you weight that much. So I guess I am one of those that dont look like I weight that much BUT I do! I tell them look you dont see me as "fat" but I do.
