Default Newbie posting

My doctor, mom, and sister want me to try to lose weight on my own and I have been trying for a month now and not doing to bad. Of course surgery is on the table in a year if I really try and really can't lose by myself. (They can't find anything wrong with me, but my metabolism is VEEEERY slow... when I get my teeth filled it can take me twice as long as others for the novacaine to wear off, my metabolism is that slow! really!) So I need some encouragement.

I am 5'1" SUPER short... my boyfriend once said someone was freakishly short and then followed it up with "about your height" lol

I do want to lose weight also. A lot for looks and vanity reason, but also a lot for health. My mom just had a knee replacement and I don't want to have to do that. Also, the main reason I am doing it is because I don't want to have to consider my weight anymore. I don't like going to amusement parks because I am afraid I won't fit. I am afraid to ride a bike with my nieces and nephew, turnstiles and concerts are scary everytime etc etc etc.

I go to Curves 3 x a week and have been for a month. Last week I started doing aeerobics on my off days and everyday I do my mom's physical therapy with her... which is harder than it sounds! lol

My eating habits have been a lot worse but could be better.
I don't drink anything but water anymore (I can't have carbonated drinks or caffeine because of my stomach) I drink one glass of juice a day usually between 10-16 oz. I don't eat sweets... well, much. Occasionally I will eat dessert with my sister's family or something like that. But I am not extremely careful with my meals. I try to be some days I will do good with yogurt and bagel for breakfast, applesauce for snack, lean cuisine for lunch, 100 cal packs or crackers etc for snack and something normal like a meat, starch and vegetable for dinner.
Then occassionally I eat biscuits and gravy for breakfast, a jerk chicken wrap with dressing or pizza for lunch, or something not so healthy like hashbrown casserole for dinner.

I am currently 282 (i can only say that online!) and want to be 140-150, not small but great compared to now!

The reason I introduced myself here is that everyday that I track what I eat and exercise I wonder if I can do it. I need the encouragement from people that were my size that lost all (or most so far) on their own without surgery.

You CAN do it!! Everyone here is proof of that. Some of us are still on the path and some have met their goals....or are new. It sounds like you are on the right track.

I too go to curves. I go 6 days a week, and 3 of the 6 I go twice in a day. Once in the morning and then again, after work. I didn't start this way though. I took it one week at a time and made a plan. The first week, I decided to start counting calories (Because I've been on this path before and that is what worked for me in the past), then the following week, I added water. I am a total Diet Coke Addict. (I don't have any until I get home now. I used to drink anywhere from 4-6 just at work!!). Anyway, the next week, I started walking a mile 5 days a week. I did that for two weeks, then I started walking 2 miles a day...I had been thinking about going back to Curves, but had my walking tape, so I put it off. Then the day came....My friggin walking tape busted!! Well, that was my sign that I needed to join Curves (hehe). AND Curves was having a special and I didn't have to pay a joining fee. SWEET!! I just re-joined in Sept. of this year.

Here it is 8 months down the road and I'm slowly but surely losing this weight! I say "slowly" because I want the weight to be gone as of yesterday, but it is what it is. A long road with bumps and twists everywhere. But keep your eye on your destination and you WILL get there.

Congratulations on the your loss so far! You are doing GREAT!

You can totally do this! Small changes can lead to big results. Sometimes I feel like I am making no progress and then others feel like a lot. It is the amalgamation of all the little things you do over time that really make change happen. I know you have posted on the main thread - those threads are a great place to find support. For me, getting support has been so important. To realize we aren’t alone and other people are facing the same difficulties is so reassuring.

Welcome, Iswood!

When I started, I could only think about staying on plan for 2 weeks. That's all I promised myself. Now, it's months later, and I'm still hanging in, losing slowly but feeling great. I didn't think I could get this far, but I have, and so can you. There is a long road ahead, but it helps to think about small bits at a time. One day at a time, one meal at a time.
