Default plato can't seem to get past it

I have only been doing this for a week...my routine has been eat less, count calories, weight watchers, and only eating foods with nutritional value with low calories and exercising every day at least one mile. Towards the end of the week I got up to 5 mile walk.

I started at 184 (ofcourse weighing myself every morning) and got to 179 but these last two mornings have been creaping back up to 180. I feel like I hit a plato and this is where I always get stuck.

It is the weekend my husband who doesn't exercise or watch what he eats is here and I am so afraid I'm just going to loose motivation and just say forget it. this is definately my first test weekend.

I was going to rest this weekend and perhaps eat someother things because my husband is here and I feel my muscles need to rest. then start again on Monday. Do you think this is a good idea or not?

If you've only been at it a week, you're definitely not plateauing. A plateau would be when you've been at the same weight for several weeks, with no change, so that's good news. However, it is very normal for your weight to fluctuate from day to day. It would be abnormal for someone's weight to drop everyday and to never fluctuate. Once you can accept that one day it's up, one day it's down, next day it's up again, you can weigh everyday. If that bothers you, only weigh once a week.

When you say "eat someother things" are you meaning to eat foods that aren't on plan? If so, my opinion is that it is too soon to go off plan. You need to stay on plan long enough for it to become a habit, usually several weeks before that happens. I think you should stick with it over the weekend. If you are finding that really hard to do, maybe your plan is too restrictive. How many calories are you eating per day?

I do think it's good to take a rest day from exercise every week. Maybe even two days, but it's harder to get going again if you take them in a row, from my experience.

Good luck with the weekend. I know it's harder when your husband isn't supporting you. When I need to be more accountable for what I eat, I check in at 3FC more often. It helps me get through those times I want to cheat.

Thank you so much Tammy. I thought I did blow it this morning because I sent my husband to the store and specifically told him Light sausage and he bought the regular. The difference in calories and fat is amazing. Then I was starving and ate everything here and there. but then I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day and actually even though I didn't feel like it at first I worked out in the yard making plantar boxes and pulling weeds. I was just as tired as if I had been walking all week. Just have to make it through tomorrow with my hubby home...lol then he is back to work on Monday.

Tammy gave you great advice, I only weigh once a week for this very reason, and even then I sometimes have a hard time not getting discouraged. Like she said we just have to keep in our heads that our weight fluctuates from day to day and that that fluctuation does not mean we are not losing weight. Hang in there and you'll be successful!! Welcome to the boards!

Ditto what melody said....Don't weigh yourself everyday. Once a week is enough and actually I only weigh once a month (since we don't have a scale and I use a friends when I am over at their house). Go by how your clothes fit not by the numbers.

Default Great idea

What a great idea to go by the way the clothes fit and keep up my routine. It may be hard to not look at the scale, but I will try first to go one week without weighing myself. I will keep up the routine and see how my clothes fit. Thanks so much for being here!

You have been given some great advice. Here's my two cents: Do not weigh every day, it will only discourage you. Everything from the amount of water you consume to using the potty to having too much salt one day can cause your weight to fluctuate. Once a week works well for me. As far as the actualy diet or plan, it sounds like you've been eating "here and there", not really structured. Of course you need to do what's best for you, but I would recommend finding a plan (be it WW or any other plan) and doing it consistently for at least 30 days (no cheating). Once you do this, you will see a significant difference in how you feel and in the numbers on the scale. After 30 days you will NEVER want to go back. The biggest challenge is making it through those 30 days. I wish you the best of luck.

Blump thanks for the encouragement. I think I am still in the beginning stages of changing my life. I first was going to just calorie count then found out that adding activity and calorie counting was an important factor in my weight loss and ofcourse different activity not just the treadmill was important for weight loss. I have to rethink my whole life routine. it may take a month just to figure it all out. So I am going to be gentle with myself and stay on my diet but also not worry if weight doesn't come off but inches in my waste does. I don't know I will continue anyhow....thanks so much for your bit of advise...I will definitely find a plan!!

It sounds like you have a great positive attitude, and that will get you far. I absolutely agree that it needs to be a lifestyle change, not just a diet and I am a big believer that how you feel is far more important than the numbers on the scale. Keep up the positivity!
