Week of~~May 8th~~

Hello Everyone!

I hope all of the mothers have had a wonderful day. We took Alex to the drive through safari at Six Flags and to the toddler area of SF. He had a MUCH better time this time! He got to drive a truck and that made his day. Of course, waiting in line to drive the truck was awful.

Welcome to Chris and  to everyone else. I'm off for a relaxing evening (I hope anyway!).

Karen

Hi All!

Happy Mother's Day to all us moms!

Welcome Chris! Glad to have you with us!

Having a pretty busy weekend, but here's a couple pics!

Happy MOthers Day everyone!! We had a brilliant day (it's Monday 9th here) - my Mum and I planned to do a 4km MOthers Day fun run, then when we arrived I got a rush of blood to the head and changed my entry to the 8km!! And it wasn't as bad as I thought :). It was also a distance PB since DD was born so I was feeling very smug all day. Then I got some very lairy pink fuzzy plush slippers which DH said DD chose all by herself - apparently she screamed and pulled them off the rack so he concluded she liked them LOL! AND I actually found some knee high boots that did up over my big calves (i've tried on 10000s of pairs and none ever do up, v. discouraging) so I was stoked and bought them for myself as a mothers' day present.
Well this has been disgracefully Me Me Me.
How are you all?

lppennington 05-08-2005 09:29 PM

Happy Mothers day to all the moms out there. I am not a mother, but I spent all day with mine. We had a good time shopping.

Hello to Chris, I am Lisa.

Well off to study!

LBTEPA 05-08-2005 09:47 PM

BTW Rhonda I live not in the UK but in Australia, land of chips, wedges, mars bars and Turkish delight as well as much good wine :) Seriously we are v. lucky here as produce is so good and relatively inexpensive it's easy to eat well. My problem is stopping!
take care

chrily 05-08-2005 11:09 PM

Thanks for all the welcomes. I hope to get to know all of you. Today was almost just another day. My Dh is down with strep and mono so I didn't get much of a day off. Oh well...I'll get even on Father's Day.... ;)

Anyhow...here's some more about me. I ate my last bad snack today. I looked at the scale and scared myself half to death with my weight gain. Tomorrow is back on the program and staying with it. Enough of that...I live in Montana. I'm a mom of 3 girls. I work part-time for my dad. He owns a candy warehouse....hummm, part of my problem. THe rest of the time, I am a stay at home mom. I do have rheumatoid arthritis which makes this weight loss ride a bit tricky at times. I've been married for 6 yrs now to a wonderful guy-Kelly. I like to read, sew, ebay :D and walk...when I get a chance. It's hard to find free time with kids racing all over the house. Which reminds me...I better get off and get them ready for bed. School tomorrow and I have to work.

I'll check back tomorrow evening.

Good morning ladies!!

Hi Chris  Welcome to 30-somethings!! I'm sure that you'll find this place a wonderful source of support and encouragement. The ladies here are fantastic!! Sorry your Mother's day was such a bummer, hopefully dh will be on the mend soon, and able to make it up to you ;)

LBTEPA, I am so excited for you and your 8K run!! That is so great :dancer: What's even better(and I can totally relate to) is finding some new fab boots that go over your calf!! WoooHoooo!! :cb: o.k., so you'll be wearing those everyday now, right? ;)

Happy Mother's day (a little late) to LBTEPA, KarenK, LBH, and Kellyvio!!

KarenK, sounds like your safari drive at 6Flags was really cool. I wish we had one we could take our kids to. We are planning on taking them to the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence RI next month. It will be our family weekend getaway #2. We are going to stay for 2 nights at a hotel with a pool, so the kids will be all over that!

Lisa, how is school going? Must be getting close to finals...How many classes are you taking? I know I asked once before, but I forgot...Are all your classes having finals, or do you need to turn in term papers? I remember this time of year as far as school was concerned...can you say, "STRESS"? :stress:

I worked very hard this week to keep my eating under control, and made it to the gym 5x... only to blow it this weekend. We hosted a dinner party with 3 other couples, and I had 4 beers, dinner, AND dessert...granted, all of my portions were reasonable, but I felt like such a pig :ink: at the end of the night. HOWEVER....i did have a 3# loss this week!! :encore:

It's working.....

edith

lppennington 05-09-2005 10:57 AM

Edith, this is finals week. Yes, STRESSED!!!! is a word. I have one final tonight (Mon) one tommorrow and then a 15 -25 page paper and presentation on Sat. I feel ready for the exam thats on Tues. I've got 1+ pages done for Sat. and I have not done any studying for tonights exam. I have one week off after Sat. then I start Summer school.

All of that to say, ya'll probably won't be seeing much of me this week.

Hello to everyone else.

LBTEPA 05-09-2005 07:02 PM

Lisa - thinking of you and willing some brain-strength in your direction
Chris - Hi and welcome! Hope DH is better soon. This is a really supportive forum. Now you have made up your mind to change, you'll be surprised how quickly your life will become different and the weight will come off :)
Edith - sounds as though you are being very hard on yourself mate - you didn't 'blow it' - you have to 'live' sometimes - and a 3lb loss is GREAT!!! Yay you!!
Have a great day everyone

newmyers 05-09-2005 07:53 PM

Welcome Chris! Happy Day after Mother's day to all the other moms out there. I spent the day lounging! Didn't even get on the computer just read and napped!
Hopefully a pic of my little ones will be here!

chrily 05-09-2005 08:48 PM

Hi All...
I had a fast day at work today. SO much to do. The day went by just like that. I came home and mowed the lawn. DH is still pretty wore out so...
I did okay with eating today. My portions were smaller but maybe not the right things to eat. I had cereal and milk for breakfast and at lunch a tortilla with lunchmeat and cheese and clam chowder (there's the bad item) and celery with laughing cow cheese for a snack and one piece of meatloaf, green beans, mushrooms, and some mashed potatoes for dinner.

LBTEPA-Thanks for the welcome.

Newmyers-No pic of your little ones showed up...I'll have to post a few pics of my babies....

Lisa-School huh? What's your major? I'd love to go back but I'm a social phobic type. The thought of giving a presentation would send me into a very large panic attack....

Edith-Great job on the 3 lb. weight loss. You go girl! I wouldn't let one bad night get you down.

Hi Karen-We don't have anything cool like that around here. Sounds like you had a blast though.

Back to the business of being a mom...

~chris

mom2twinz 05-10-2005 08:16 AM

Hi Chris!

It sounds like you did great yesterday. I wouldn't worry too much about the clam chowder...after all, you did mow the lawn, and that's great for burning up calories

I've found it to be a great help to me to list my goals for the week (see thread: 30-somethings Goals for week of...) Join in on that thread to list your goals for the week, it works wonders for keeping you accountable ;)

KarenK 05-10-2005 09:39 AM

Good morning everyone,

I've been on a cleaning binge this week...after watching Friday's Oprah. I know hoarding is a compulsive disorder, but man, I don't want my house to look like that! I worked in the attic yesterday while Alex was napping. Yuck. It's not even hot outside, but it was boiling up there. We are so bad about just tossing stuff up there. And we got a new roof this past fall. I never realized it would be SO messy from that. It's horrendous. I'm not sure how we are going to clean all the gritty stuff. I'm afraid it will ruin my vaccuum cleaner. This morning I cleaned out Alex's closet. Now that was fun!

Lauren: Robby is beautiful!

Lisa: Good luck on the finals.

Edith: It doesn't sound like you blew it to me. A three pound loss is awesome.

Chris: Sounds like you did well to me.

Have a great day all! More cleaning for me! (grumble)

KarenK 05-10-2005 09:42 AM

I finally got Alex's birthday pics up. Here he is on the big day!:

http://mysite.verizon.net/kkossowsky/2bdtwentyeight.jpg

He enjoyed it much more this year than last year. He actually laughed when everyone sang to him. Last year he cried.

LBH 05-10-2005 10:26 AM

:lol3: Karen, I see you couldn't resist the blue icing again?!

Having a busy day here...will try and catch up later.

chrily 05-10-2005 11:50 AM

Morning all. I feel half-dead. We were up most of the night with my littlest one. She went to bed with a runny nose and woke up in the middle of the night coughing and wheezing. Not a very restful night for anyone. I gave her a breathing treatment around 8 this morning and the medicine kind of makes her sick so of course..we having vomiting now. She's not old enough to be tested for asthma but I'm almost 100% sure that's the problem. She's done this quite a few times in the last year.

So I don't want to disappoint everyone but I doubt I'll get much done today. My eating should be great though, since she wants to be held constantly. Keeps me out of the fridge... ;) I might get a walk in tonight when I take Kayla to her swimming lessons. I walk around the track while her lesson is going. DH can stay home and hold the little sick one then. She keeps asking where daddy is. Poor honey is used to him being home and he went to work today...FINALLY! :D He's been down with strep and mono. That was actually scary. He was at work on Friday and he got confused and disoriented and couldn't remember how to get home or how to run his computer. He was scared and so was I. I took him to the ER and he was dehydrated. The doctor said that when you get dehydrated, you're body tries to maintain vital functions and memory isn't one of those functions. So it's nice to see him back working and doing things, even if he is still really tired.

Edith-I will have to check out the goal thread too. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Okay back to holding my little sickie babe. I'll check back when she's resting.

Chris, I am at a private college, getting a duel BS (boy ain't that the truth) in Business Management and Marketing. I should be done and graduated by May 20th 2006.

chrily 05-10-2005 02:15 PM

Lisa, I went to a private college for an Associates degree in Business Management and only had 1 credit to graduate. I had to take some time off while I was pregnant with Nicole because I was morning sick..morning, noon, and night. :D The school closed while I was out for a semester. I never got to finish mine. Glad you're getting yours. I'd love to do something in healthcare management like my sister but I just don't think I can handle that and family at the same time. She is so busy all the time with her 3 kids, school, and working nights. I barely have enough time to breathe as it is... :)

KarenK 05-10-2005 03:14 PM

OMG, somebody tell me that cleaning counts as exercise! Has anyone ever looked at the top of your cabinets? (If anyone tells me they clean theirs on a regular basis, I will cry!) I never thought to clean there. Guess what. It's GROSS. It was so dirty, it was fuzzy. Ugh, Ugh Ugh. Not anymore tho. I got all but one cabinet. I couldn't reach it. I will have DH get it for me.

Lauren: Yeah, the Pooh cake came with blue icing. Whatcha gonna do? Besides, it makes your tongue such a pretty color. And I'm still finding bits of it all over the place.

Chris: I'm sorry your little one is sick. It sucks so bad when they are sick. Mine wanted to be held for a WEEK after he was sick. He's just now beginning to leave me to play. I'm glad your hubby is feeling better, too!

Lisa: Get back to work studying! (only kidding!)

lppennington 05-10-2005 03:54 PM

Karen, can't I take just a few minutes break here and there. If not, I would either cry  or do some damage to something. I am trying not to eat, and I have no money to shop. :tantrum:

Well back to the grindstone.

KarenK 05-10-2005 05:06 PM

Well, I suppose so. I want to see straight A's tho! (I'm getting practice for when Alex is in school! :) )

lppennington 05-10-2005 07:09 PM

I'd be happy with solid B's or B-'s. lol. I have now got two of my finals done and out of the way. The only thing left is that blasted paper (project).

You have a lot of the same foods (chips and turkish delights) as the UK then? I really miss some of the food from England. We ate Indian often and here in the US (and I live in the middle of nowhere) it isn't as widespread. I miss the fish and chips from the fish and chips truck and the chip shop. My husband loves Turkish delights, I didn't really care for them much. Of course I miss more than just the food. LOL.

Rhonda

LBH 05-11-2005 08:27 AM

Rhonda, nice to see you...I thought we lost you! Here in NJ we have a Scottish Festival at the PNC Arts Center every Fall and there's a couple of shops from Kearny that set up stands that sell fish and chips. My grandparents (Gran is off the boat from Scotland) love it. I don't care for it, I stick with the meat pies, but that's just because I don't like seafood. Depending on where in PA you are, you should make the trip, usually it's in the end of Sept, beginning of Oct.

Sorry I haven't been here much. We actually make our own fish and chips from time to time. McCormick makes a batter that is very similar to the batter they used that the fish and chip shops, and well chips are chips. One of the things I miss most from the fish and chips shops are the mushy peas. I have no idea how they made them...I guess I shoudl just look it up for the next time we make the fish and chips. We are in western Pa but that sounds like a nice trip.
I also miss the yorkshire puddings...They had frozen ones that I could just pop in the oven with my sunday dinner. I have a recipe for those and I have tried to make them a few times...note the word tried...it didn't go well. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Hmmm all this talk about the food I miss from England makes me understand how I gained weight while we lived there. LOL

Rhonda, here's the website for the place we like: Stewarts of Kearny They ship! (Now I'm gonna have to get some meat pies!!) Are you British, or did you just live there for awhile?

lppennington 05-11-2005 12:08 PM

Rhonda, I live in Ohio and some of the local grocery stores sell ethnic foods, and believe it or not, they have food from England (and mushy peas). Maybe you could ask your grocery store.

midwife 05-11-2005 12:43 PM

Hi guys! I had fun checking out that Kearny's site. They do sell mushy peas....I have to say, I can't stand peas anyway and to consider them mushy does not make them more appetizing. :p

We have had the stomach flu whip through our house. I should NOT have weighed myself, but I did, and I am down 4 lbs. Unfortunately, it is because I have not kept anything down for 2 days. Ugh. I am going to try some sprite in a bit. Full calorie, no less. My main worry about myself is...I hope my body does not go into starvation mode and cling to calories now. Oh well! one thing at a time.

My husband used to be in the USAF and we lived there for 4 1/2 years.
I like mushy peas but I think I will pass on the canned ones...I never liked any of the canned ones I tried there.
I almost got a beef and kidney pie when we first got there...we went to a pub and I saw it on the menu...I thought it was beef and kidney beans...oh my...it was actually just kidney. YUK. I did try a few of the other meat pies though. I can't remember which one was my favorite...I know which pub I got it at but can't remember what was in it even. I would normally get either the fish and chips or the sunday dinner. (roast pork, turkey, beef or lamb, roasted potatoes, brocolli, parsnips and one other veggie, sometimes a sausage or stuffing ball on the side depending on which meat) I loved it.

We don't have any british "foods" we do have a few types of biscuts (cookies) but that's it. What store do you shop at? I am not sure about trying the canned peas, I didn't really care for the canned stuff I tried while I was there. I have to do a search for a recipe and just try to make them.
Homemade is always best. LOL. (also a pain in the butt most of the time)

lppennington 05-11-2005 02:21 PM

We have Krogers and Meijers. Meijers has more of a selection, but I don't think they are in PA. Krogers might carry it though.

what part of PA are u in? I used to go to the Poconos 500 race on Fathers Day weekend, but not this yr or last. I love NASCAR!!

chrily 05-11-2005 02:27 PM

News flash!!

Nicole is better...she's bossy, tantrum throwing, joking...etc. Can't decide if it I liked it better when she was sick or not. ;) Just joking. Yesterday she hardly moved. Today she's flying all over the house again and getting into everything.

I did really good with eating yesterday, not by choice though. I held Nicole for most of the day and slept some too. I was overtired from no rest the night before.

What is this about "mushy peas"? I'm sorry but that just doesn't sound so good to me. I'm not really a pea fan either. I'll have to check out the website after I'm done here. I'm trying to come up with something different for my daughter's birthday this Sunday. She's invited all the kids from her school. I'm thinking that I may be way in over my head. She wants it to have the Barbie PRincess and the Pauper theme. Any suggestions? I'm getting a pinata for sure. She's been wanting one of those for a long time. Other than that, I am clueless.

Hi everyone
Sending more brain strength to you Lisa (not that I have much to spare but you can have it, I'm not using it :)
So glad all the tots are better and charging around as they do
Welcome back Rhonda! I thought you'd gone - good to see you again :D
that's so funny - "British food" in the foreign section LOL. But I am appalled to hear that you don't have (meat) pies or fish & chips in the US!!! My DH wants to visit the US but this news may put him off LOL
We don't eat 'mushy peas' here - although in Adelaide (South Australia) they have a revolting dish called a pie floater which is a perfectly good pie in a dish of mushed up peas - with sauce (ketchup?)!! I love peas - one of my "gimme food now or I'll bite your hand" snacks is a dish of frozen/microwaved peas - carbs, kind of sweet and cute looking too. mmmmm
Have a good day everyone

LBH 05-11-2005 10:09 PM

LB, I'm with you on the peas, I love them! Not canned though, and I don't like pea soup, so I probably wouldn't care for mushy peas! And there's British food in the US...just not in the booneys of Pennsylvania! :lol3:

Jen, sorry to hear you're sick, I hope you're feeling better soon! Hope that 4 lbs. stays off too! :crossed:

Chris, glad to hear Nicole is feeling better! How old is she? My cousin's wife had a tea party for all the girls in the family for her DD's 5th or 6th bday. She made little tea sandwiches and had a little tea set and all! Along with juice, milk and other munchies. Very scary about DH, I did not know the body worked that way! Glad he's feeling better!

Newmyers, your pic didn't show up...there's no link there. If you need a hand, let me know!

Lisa, hope you're keeping it together with finals! Hang in there!

Karen, yes, exercise counts! Remember when we used to keep track...every 20 minutes of exercise/activity counts as a mile?! Come on...FEEP!!!

OK, hope everyone's having a great evening!

KarenK 05-11-2005 11:37 PM

Hey, I remember FEEP! I should have enough FEEP points that I don't have to exercise for the rest of the month. I think DH has decided that if it's at all possible, I'm getting PG this cycle. We're talking 4x's a day, 3 x's a day and only 1 day off! He said he missed me 'cause he was gone for a week. Thank goodness they cancelled his two week trip. I wouldn't even have time to post for a couple of weeks.

LBH 05-12-2005 08:18 AM

:rofl: :lol3::rofl: :lol3::rofl: :lol3::rofl: :lol3:

For those of you that don't know...probably most of you, since most of you are new...

FEEP = Fun Earned Exercise Points!

I haven't ever heard of either of those stores. We are in the south west part of PA. The Poconos isn't too too far from here. PA is such a big state though...no where near the size of TX or anything but a lot bigger than MD where I grew up.

Mushy Peas

Mushy peas are very good, especially with fish and chips. I saw a lot of the Brits eating them on the fish and chips...now I wouldn't go that far but it is good on the side. I think someone told me they put mint in them. I didn't think I would like them because they just didn't look good.

no loss since a little after Christmas

I haven't lost any weight since a little after Christmas. I am still exercising and trying to stick with the diet. (I have been having more at dinner lately) I am beginning to get very frustrated with it. I want cookies and ice cream...and if I am not losing weight anyway...why not? I haven't actually gone for that but it is how I feel and what makes it so easy to have a heaping helping of mashed potatoes at dinner. I am hoping that when the warm weather actually sets in we will be out running around with the kids in the yard most evenings and maybe that will kick start my losing back up.

Rhonda
