Default My thighs hurt

I posted yesterday in the introductions forum. I'm back after 2 years and and a 25 pound weight gain in the interim. I started running a week ago. I started with one lap around my small block. It's 360 meters. I did it again the next day. and twice the day after. Yesterday and the day before I did three laps. Today I did 4. My thighs hurt now. The front and the backs of my legs, not used to moving so much weight so far so fast, are tired and aching now. My first day or two, I was huffing and puffing so hard my chest hurt well after my run. A week later, I'm already feeling the difference. Instead of being sore from being winded, my legs are sore instead. Four laps is 1.44 km. I'm hoping that by the middle of May, I will be able to do a 5 km run.
I was thinking of doing a 29 km in 29 days challenge for myself for this month, but being only the second day and I already did a longer run, I'm wondering if its too modest of a goal.

If you are already feeling that it might be to easy, why not try and up it each week by 1/2. So if you can do 7km one week, try to do 10-11 the next week. That way it keeps getting slightly longer!

Yes, I am going to make it progressively harder. I skipped my run yesterday. I recognized the burning feeling in my thighs today as the muscle rebuilding and I think I did more good allowing it to rebuild than doing it again. I will run again today.

Hi Sushi ...

... I would make sure you have rest days and slowly increase the amount you do .... I've heard to try and increase it by about 10-15% per week is a sustainable amount ...

Also maybe a little walk/run programme may help ...

Good luck ... 5k by April is totally doable ...
