Advise:
1.) Sneakers
2.) Intervals

Get good/comfy sneakers. And when I first started, doing intervals really helped me (and it still does). Jog for 30 seconds or a minute, then walk a minute, jog a minute, walk a minute, etc. Or whatever time amounts work for you. When you focus on it one minute at a time, you will amaze yourself with how much you can do!

Here's my advice, for what it's worth: go SLOW. Like, really slow. So many people quit attempting to run because they start out too fast. Even if you think you're not going too fast, be careful about it because if you're seriously out of breath after a few seconds, you're probably going too fast. When I first started, I barely lifted myself off the ground. I think my walk was faster than I run. But I built that up to a level of fitness that allowed me to run for more than 10 miles without stopping, complete a 5k in 28 minutes, run a half marathon without walking, and coach a high school cross country team. I did all that less than a year after I started running at that slow speed. Now I'm starting all over, but at least now I know it can be done!

So.....slow slow slow!!

Hi Matilda08 and tl0127!!! Sounds like we're in this together!!

Thanks everyone for the congrats! I was planning to start my 10-Minute Trainer dvd's on Sunday, and they REALLY work your core muscles. I have Billy Blanks dvd's also, and know EXACTLY which move you're talking about! Oh, my local YMCA has a course called Core Conditioning that sounded really good.

I will definitely focus on strengthening my core. Makes a LOT of sense. And I don't want to become dependent on this back brace. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you everyone for the advise!

I was just wondering how everyone is doing on their jogging? I am about to head down to the gym in a few to jog... once my lunch settles. (I have a gym at work.)
