Just beginning

  • Hi everyone,

    I read about this site in O and thought I would check it out. It seems as if I have tried to many other things to help me with my weight loss but I can't seem to get it to stick. This year I am determined to find something that will work and that I can stick too. Last year wasn't the best, health wise and I have promised myself that I am going to take the steps needed to make sure I get healthy. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me.     I just wanted to write and you to 3FC! I'm new here by about a month and it's fabulous! You will meet a lot of wonderful people that will offer you lots of ideas to help you in your goals!!! Seeking out new friends with similar struggles is the first step.....TO SUCCESS! What are you doing so far as to exercise? I would suggest getting back on track one step @ a time...not trying to go all the way with a diet plan and work out. Start by easing yourself back in with one or the other until you feel committed to a higher degree. At least, I know when I try to go 100% with everything, I just can't maintain...too high of a goal. Right now I'm focused on getting work outs in. Baby steps-ya know? I'm not sure if I helped too much, but again, GLAD YOU'RE HERE!!!!!! Melinda

  • Metabolism in your 30's

    I'm just beginning too and doing what mjoste suggested, starting slowly. I have found that by starting with excercise, even a little, tends to lead to healthier eating and the desire to do more intense excercise. But remember, do what works for you.

    I could see the change in my metabolism just after turning 30. I was able to keep it in check fairly easily until now... 2 kids later and in my late 30's. I've found it very frustrating to take off the last 20 pounds. I recently read an article that helped explain why I have this "spread". It also helped get me going. Hope it helps you too.

    Thanks for such a warm welcome! I am glad to be here and excited to meet new people. I am starting slowly. I am very careful about what I eat and more importantly the portion size. I am also riding our stationary bike for about 20-30 mins a day, which doesn't really burn a lot of calories but gets things moving in the right direction. What has really helped keep me healthy with my eating is seeing how few calories are burned at my level of riding !!!

    One of my definite problems in the past is taking on too much at once and then not being able to carry through! Hopefully that where I will be able to get some support. I am also thinking of re-registering for Weight Watchers again!

  • Welcome! It seems like a bunch of us are just coming on board (me included) so we get to add a bit of spark to an already wonderful place! The support here is awesome and you'll do great in your goals. I started WW (doing on my own at the moment) last week and it's great, if you rejoin I'll be glad to share some of the recipes me and my fiance' have put together. Shoot, even if you don't rejoin I'll be glad to share.

    i am doing WW at home. i figure I have a scale and all of the book from the last time I did WW, why should I pay. I think i may go back in a few weeks depending on how motivated i can keep myself.

    I have found that right now I have a ton of energy and determination but i know that will go away...no matter how hard I try to keep it and I am looking forward to all the excellent support that comes from this site! I am one of those really peppy people that drive other people nuts! so if you ever need a boost let me know and I'm happy to help!
  • Maziemay - Thanks for the great article explaining metabolism. It put all the advice I've been getting into perspective. Somehow understanding the mechanics behind metabolism has made it easier for me to change my eating and exercise habits.

  • Hi all. New here too. Well, on again after being off like you Laura. I am really determined to lose the weight this time. I started a business about 2 years ago and my hours went from 40 a week to about 65 average a week. I have a 6 yr old girl and a 18 month old (we just adopted her last december). Life is sooo hectic that we ate most of our meals out at restaurants. I would run across the street and pick something up or we would pick something up on the way home. Both my DH and I always were starving when we got home and felt too tired to cook. Well, we stopped that now. I finally found myself at my highest weight (223) and am just too concerned about my health and even my looks ( I know its vain). I was always thin growing up and always have gotten a lot of attention about how I look. Now it seems like people ignore me. Soo, I have to do something. I am getting up early and working out for about 30 - 45 mins. and I have been eating a lot more veggies. I have cut out alcohol (which is hard because I own a wine shop), I am drinking a lot of water, and I think the most important thing is that I am having a small healthy snack before I got home so that I am not starving anymore and I am not tempted to eat out or to overeat (as much- anyway).

    Well, thats me in a nutshell. I am hoping to meet some like minded chicks to chat with and get through this with.
