Smile Got A Surgery Date!!

On Dec 2 I am scheduled for the vertical sleeve pending that I pass the psych eval and the Upper GI. I just saw the surgeon yesterday and everything just happened so quickly. They scheduled me for all these appointments culminating in the surgery and the post-op.
I am excited but definitely feel a little overwhelmed. I had hoped for a December surgery date. I feel nervous and thrilled. It makes me want to eat but I don't want to gain weight from too many "Last Suppers". I guess the 2 week pre-op diet will take care of that.
I know that I am going through all the normal emotions.
Thank you for all your support.

I had the same emotional issues as you. However, my surgeon does not do the two week starve yourself to death prior to surgery thing. I only had to do that for 2 days. I had like 5 last suppers in two weeks prior to my surgery. Once you have the surgery the important thing then is to follow the docs eating/exercising orders to the T. After surgery, don't worry so much right at first about getting all your vits/supplements in, mostly concentrate on keeping hydrated. Drink your water and protein drinks. I got dehydrated after 1 1/2 weeks and had to be in the hospital for 2 days on an IV to get re-hydrated. Liquids first.

wow, pennie. i think you've set a world''s record - from starting with 'i'm not sure i should do this' to 'surgery date' in just a few weeks!!!!

congrats!!!!! my doc didn't do the two weeks of starvation - although i'd lost nearly 100 pounds before the surgery, so he had absolutely no reason to nag me. but he sure didn't want ANY of his patients to be GAINING weight before the surgery.

and all that 'last supper' stuff? i didn't fall into that - i knew that i'd be able to eat everything again - it would just take some time and patience.

not sure why i had such a different attitude than many people [it happens a lot to me]. but i CAN tell you that wls was truly the last chance for me - and i knew i coudln't continue the way i was. i'd have been dead within a year.

CatWuv-

When did you start the process?

I have my first apt. with my doctor on Nov. 18. This is just wishfull thinking, but I would like to schedule my surgery around the Christmass Holiday because I can schedule a lot of time off.

My reg. medical doctor has gave me the go ahead and my insurance is not an issue.

Hi,
I saw my surgeon last Tues (the 20th). Once I got his approval, they set all my appt's including the surgery. I could have gone in on Nov. 18th but that felt a little rushed. This is all pending that I pass all my appointments like the upper GI exam I have this week. I think this all went really quickly because I am self-pay and didn't have to deal with insurance.

Coco, good luck with your journey.
